  • Herman boots goes under the bus.

  • give me my Vietnam boots any day. But damn, you do have a lot of boots.

  • Asolo Power Matic 200 GV Gore-Tex and LaSportiva Karakorum... your feet will thank you.

  • @seventhSabra Asolos are so narrow. I've always wore medium/normal width but with asolos something definitely went wrong.

  • Cofra boots has anyone used them?

  • @JASONANDTRACI Nutn says he does not know the brand. -- Veri

  • @JASONANDTRACI Has anyone worn COFRA Boots. I am sick of American or chinese made boots either falling or messing my feet or ankles up.

  • bellville 550 st are good from what ive heard

  • I love my wolverine boots....polyurthane mids...nylon shanks

  • What is your opinion of bates boots.

  • hi nutnfancy , respect man , can i ask u something ?

what do you prefer at a hiking / trekking boot > full grain leather , nubuck or synthetic materials ? or a combination of them ... ???

  • @g3r0n1m033 Lol, did you even watch the vids? ;)

  • small note: I have the same boot - different year - this particular boot is one of only a few that have a massive full steel shank. Huge support for caring big packs and long hikes. It also have very thick full grain leather one of the thickest I could find.

The shank is all about support - this boot has almost a "ski-boot" like feel to it.

  • The upper is extremely important. I recently broke my fibia in my leg because of a pair of extremely crappy shoes that were just thin leather and nylon for uppers that when I fell gave me no support thus allowing my foot to twist and snap! If I had a pack on I would have broken both bones probably. So when buying a hiking boot make sure it goes up at least 8 inches and when laced makes your leg in like a cast so you cant twist or break your leg. This could mean life or death if you are far away

  • Cold doesn't transfer, heat does. To say that the steel shank is a good conductor, and therefore helps draw the heat out of you, would be more accurate. SORRY, SORRY, it's the physics-lover in me. Absolutely love the videos, keep'em comin'!

  • @ButtPoopWiggle you should ask german soilders from ww2 who were on the russian step in the winter about cold not transferring thorugh a steel shank and causing frosbite, the shank was riveted to the middle sole with a piece of rubber on the bottom for the sole and lots of guys died from not being able to walk

  • @SavageShooter93 You're missing the point. I don't doubt your story is true, but my comment doesn't contradict it in the least. I'm simply clearing up a bit of physics misspeech. As I said before, "cold" (the absence of heat) does not transfer. That's why it's called 'heat exchange' instead of 'cold exchange.' The steel shank in the German's boots conducted the thermal energy (heat) from their feet into the rubber sole. Just google 'heat flow' or something similar if you want more info.

  • an easy way to go is get either new or go to a surplus store and get combat boots made for your climate since although soldiers dont always carry this much in basic training they carry 75-100lbs packs so without heavy duty boots they wouldnt be able to get out of basic without constantly getting new boots. so go with G.I combat boots

  • i wouldn't want a gator in my boots.

  • Herman survivors are walmart boots...

  • Very good! I wish I knew this info before I tried to climb Mt Whitney CA, I had a pair of Wal Mart specials 39.99 boots and let me tell you after the climb 3 summers ago. I learn it was good to buy a quality '200 USD+ boot" and with everything you said...my feet were literally turned to mincemeat .

After my run in I bought a pair of Zamberlains Civettas , and they are a perfect A+ boot I took them to the top of Mt Hood and they never let me down!!!

  • That is what a pussy would say

  • Comment removed

  • well, with a body size of 6 foot 7 inches comes natural muscle, enough to carry an extra 70 lbs

  • What happened to your thumb?

  • is it posible to make a cutting tool with the shank if it was needed in suvival?

  • Are we talking prison terms now?

If anything, a stabbing item not cutting one, but why would you want to take appart your incredibly vital hiking boots?

There are things you can turn into cutting items in the nature, your boots are sacred.

  • no we are not talking prision terms

however with much respect to you and i agree with your statment your boots can become fubar in this situation is it a wourthy peace of equipment to scavange ?

    many thanks .

p.s. sorry for any bad grammer or spelling .

  • if your boots are fubar or you got an extra pair that are fubar, find some fubar'd in the woods or whatever i see no reason why the shank couldn't be turned into some sort of tool.

  • whtas the est pice diffrence between a full shank half shank and no shank?

im looking for combat boots for the field but also shines up well for parde

I have made a video if the 2 pairs of boots I have if you wach it you will see waht kind of boots im after.

what makes the best boots for long distance tabbing ?

i was thinking of getting lowa, altberg, goliath or somethn

    what do you think?

i think lowa are a bit over pirced for what you get out them

    any advice would be great

  • If you want good boots get Russell Moccasins.

  • steel shanks also keep pungi sticks, from going through your foot. :)

  • when was the last time you went hiking and had a pungi go through your foot?

  • whats a pungi?

  • if u go hike in my swamp, u'd better have steel shanks >:{

    :p

  • Shoe goo! among the greatest substances ever, it's exactly what I thought when you first pointed out the separation. 119747, can you (or anyone else) explain what you mean by "across the boot, not crisscross?"

    Thanks for the videos, nutn.

  • What is the military using? How do they stack up?

    thanks! Great vids!

  • gaters wont let the moisture wick out of the boot via the cotton and wool socks(wear 2 pair)that i wear.never had problem with foreign materials getting into boots.gaiters are for winter applications(keeping snow out of boot).

  • Great series, excellent knowledge on you topics, one comment I may have during my time in the defence force we were always told to lace across the boot not crisscross as in your videos. The reason is should you ever need to cut your boots off in a hurry, fall into sea or deep river or an injury it is easier to cut down the lenght.Just a comment take as you will Cheers Jock
