I went to school with Sean. I was an undergraduate while he was in the masters program. We were in the first jazz ensemble together. I had the incredible privilege of getting to see him play every week in downtown New Brunswick at a place called the North Star. My buddy has some mini-disc recordings that need to be found! Like then and certainly right now after watching this I have to say, I don't know why I continue to still try and play jazz!
I remember those great sessions at Bliss Hall with Sean and Alton. They are absolutely ridiculous together. Hey Sean, whatever happened to Brian Connell the saxist? Anyway, the most important thing is that they honor The Most High with their gifts and talent. I've always said that Sean is one of the "coldest" of our generation. Keep it up Sean.

While it's true they were a bit liberal with the changes at times, and their ideas were somewhat repetitive, they were certainly coherent. Besides, jazz is all about fun -- it doesn't always have to be perfect pitch, stringing together complex ideas, and snobbery (in your case). Most jazz musicians aren't in it for money, they're in it for the music. These guys are clearly having a great time, the crowd is enjoying it, and there's absolutely no reason for you not to enjoy it too.

The other player is Marcus Printup. He's been swingin with Lincoln Center for over 15 years now. Check out some of his stuff. He's a dangerous man with that horn

if anyone could hit these notes, this wouldnt be so special. it isnt even about how high they are playing, its about the lines. even an octave down, 99 percent of trumpet players couldnt do that shit.

Cliford Brown would be so Proud to listen to these great cats. They take the language , music and vocabulary further. this how the horn should sound man. there is not sex without intensity. at times you just need to get intense direcrly and keep it like these cats do here. WOW!!

Sure there's "competition", but it's the kind that's beneficial to all involved. It prompts both players to pull that extra something out of their bag of tricks that they might not otherwise. Let's face it, trumpet players tend to be cocky & competitive. At least in this case it makes for a great musical experience, at least IMO.
I for one don't hear a clear "winner", I just hear two very capable players going to town and playing their asses off.
They are not "fighting". They are best buddies and both hold their own in terms of musical and trumpet ability. Anyone who says that either of them were "destroyed" or "owned" clearly does not know them.
Well, in fact it was not "fighting", in the original languaje I speak -spanish- we say "duelo", that I think it means "duel". So It should say "trumpets duel" or so.
It is clear they are friends, otherwise they didn't enjoy as they are.
Actually I know both of them, and the comment wasn't to bad mouth Marcus Printup because he is a fantastic trumpet player. As a musician that plays jazz, sometimes when you get on stage in a situation like this you get "owned" or "destroyed" by your friends that are on stage with you. All it does (at least for me) is motivate me to practice harder so that I can play better. So don't take the comment as a negative to anyone as that's not what it was meant to be.
Marcus Printup is a great trumpet player, but Sean Jones just destroyed him here. What amazing control of the trumpet by Sean Jones as well as musicality.

Sure there's "competition", but it's the kind that's beneficial to all involved. It prompts both players to pull that extra something out of their bag of tricks that they might not otherwise. Let's face it, trumpet players tend to be cocky & competitive. At least in this case it makes for a great musical experience, at least IMO.
I for one don't hear a clear "winner", I just hear two very capable players going to town and playing their asses off.

They are not "fighting". They are best buddies and both hold their own in terms of musical and trumpet ability. Anyone who says that either of them were "destroyed" or "owned" clearly does not know them.

Well, in fact it was not "fighting", in the original languaje I speak -spanish- we say "duelo", that I think it means "duel". So It should say "trumpets duel" or so.
It is clear they are friends, otherwise they didn't enjoy as they are.

Actually I know both of them, and the comment wasn't to bad mouth Marcus Printup because he is a fantastic trumpet player. As a musician that plays jazz, sometimes when you get on stage in a situation like this you get "owned" or "destroyed" by your friends that are on stage with you. All it does (at least for me) is motivate me to practice harder so that I can play better. So don't take the comment as a negative to anyone as that's not what it was meant to be.

Marcus Printup is a great trumpet player, but Sean Jones just destroyed him here. What amazing control of the trumpet by Sean Jones as well as musicality.
