@simonnicholasbird - I've read water actually makes lithium fires much worse, but when a lot of these facilities are built, a sprinkler system is required. This type of fire requires a different treatment.
Many batteries had a revolting end. They were terminal. I wonder if there will be charges related to the fire. Someone might be arrested for assault and battery and put in a dry cell. I zinc this fire was bad. I wonder what the plant looks like currently. Maybe the firemen will cell-abrate when the fire is out. I've heard about a hot cell at a nuclear plant but never at a battery plant. I wonder how many batteries come from the D. C. area.
I haul semi loads of car batteries to KC Recycling..I didn't see a lot of laptop batteries, but the plastic and lead that went up in this fire surely posed a serious health risk to anyone within a large radius!
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why it says "do not dispose in fire" on the battery package. One burning laptop battery is bad enough, just imagine thousands of them! I'd hate to be anywhere near that!
I took the video but I'm not from Trail. I was visiting family in Mont-Rose and we thought it was comming from the gun range across the river. It went on like this for over 2 hrs. I left when it started to rain (acid) on my head.

... actually... them batteries ARE being recycled. Ma Nature simply
follows a much different and less... um-mm, confined methodology
for decomposing some compounds into lesser, more elemental
products... Gotta admit... She does have flair.
