That Corolla XRS does not have the tC motor but the old Celica GTS 1.8 vvti motor. Redline is up near 8400rpm with roughly 170-180hp stock + mods if he did any.
this one is the one with da 2zz the 10th gen xrs has the 2.4 tc motor 2az....n jus for the record its not all about hp its about a combination of acceleration hp and weight
for a xrs to hang with a speed3, it will need high modification. it has to have well over 240hp. plus those small 1.8liter engines cant even reach 350hp fully built n/a. k20s can maybe acheive it but no the 2zz. want more speed get a v8. some can get over 800hp fully built n/a.

After having a 2002 honda with dc's k&N and Magn Flow, then purchased 2008 speed3 of course no comparison for speed but I suggest buying speed3 for the fun and speed and let the honda go, downside is speed3 loves gas

The mazdaspeed platform has gone a longways since it first came out, and until just recently have the big turbo guys been able to make power out of the speed3 engine. Dont be surprized if you start seeing alot of ms3 vs 03/04 cobra or vette races in the next couple months and actually win...

Now coming from someone who owned a fully bolted '01 GTS, i will say that those 2zz are very potent motors fully bolted. I've raced a b18 gsr's and won by a car or less in my celica. When i got my bone stock 09 ms3 i raced a b18 ek9 and won by maybe 2-3 cars to 120. Speed3 is not that fast stock, add a intake+tbe+fmic+tune and it becomes a serious contender even for bolted v8s

all i have to say is the kid in the speed 3 does not know how to drive...stock hes prob still a good .5-1.0 seconds faster then those to cars at the track 1/4mile that is...maybe the speed 3 started in 2nd...whice would explain why the xrs had the jump...he he was prob shiftn at 6700rpm not 5800 where he should be
wrong, was shifting at 5600 with my BONE STOCK speed3 against an i/h/e/ems XRS. let me break that down for you; intake, catless header, exhaust, tuned with an apexi ems(engine management system)

I have owned many great cars in my life, including corvettes, a Lotus Esprit Turbo, and a Mercedes SL55. Just to beat around in, I purchased a 2003 Matrix XRS. It is one of the most surprisingly fast vehicles I have ever owned. I've embarrassed many cars I would not have believed unless I experienced it personally. It now has 147k on it and it's still running strong. It's no wonder Lotus chose to put this motor in its Elise and Exige.

GTS is not 'unstoppable' you guys ever get of the computer and actually hit up a dyno? my boys gts WITH injen short ram inake and exhaust only made 152hp to the ground.you guys are all full of it. there was an ae86 TWIN CHARGED (turbo & supercharged) on 4ag motor @ the dyno it made 239hp to the ground.there was also a supercharged EG civic w a b18 that made 220hp to the ground. so you guys need to quit smokin cause 190 whp frm a corrolla/celica NA,is bullshit my friends.

Yes indeed. The weight of the GTS is what really makes it so quick. It's lighter than the XRS and has 10 more horsepower due to a more aggressive tune.

I saw a website that talked about the hard break in. He said to change out the oil after 8o miles to flsh the metal bits left over from machining. He also said et the car rev down, don't use the dyno brake. Interesting stuff. I'm considering AMS oil with a shot of Lucas. Any thoughts on that?
sounds like you know whats up. is AMS amsoil you mean? they make a good oil, but the Lucas.. I'd stay far away from the lucas. definately dont use the lucas in your engine, it will spike the thickness of the oil so much and to an unpredictable level and can slow down the flow rate through the parts which can actually reduce the oils performance. lucas should be limited to old, tired worn out engines . a quality motor oil is all you need! peace

THe lucas is going in my '99 accord with 100K on it.:) You said you broke your car in hard..someone told me not to use synthetic at break in because of it's qualities, I just want to make sure I do this right. yeah dude, when you break in hard, you allow the first abrasive coating of the cylinderwalls to wear the rings in to make a good seal. the rough finish on the cylinders only lasts a short time thats why you gotta use it when its there cuz once it wears out then it then the rings are pretty much left at that 'shape'. it's true about the synthetic oil, but after about 2000miles and after the break in you can go right to synth. my opinions have definetly takin a turn for the worst......had to take the speed 3 in for a bad turbo seal...this with only 1300 miles on it..and while yeah i get on it once in awhile,i dont ramrod it.......not happy at the moment....and still not sure if its fixed or not....so that being said...be warned speed 3 owners...if your using alot of oil......look out........more power to those who havent had issues
dude, the problem with turbo seals is a combo of when you use 5w30 (and god forbid 5w20) oil, and install a TBE, and fail to upgrade the TURBO INLET PIPE. If you do the exhaust, you MUST upgrade the turbo inlet pipe, or else there will be excessively uneven pressures between the compressor and turbine. The seals are not going bad as people think, its that the pressures are pushing the thin oil into the exhaust side, causing it to burn. changing the INLET PIPE solves the problem....
because the stock inlet pipe is restrictive and causes turbulence which causes axial forces on the K04's cartridge, allowing oil to push into the turbine side, an upgraded INLET PIPE virtually eliminates the turbulence and also flows better. The turbo seals are metal "labyrinth" type (and are not worn in 1300miles), they just will allow more oil to pass if theyre being loaded to one side, from uneven pressures and turbulence. Trust me, changing the inlet pipe WILL solve the issue.
veltpak6 is 100% right about the turbo inlet. haven't heard about the problem also being due to 5w30 oil thought, i was always told that was supposed to help smoking?
i have heard using heavier oil like 10w-30 reduces oil consumption..but havent tried it yet...as for the turbo inlet....im still running a stock exhaust system......so will this even help?
ya it'll help either way, no question. stock turbo inlet pipe is terrible.. 1300miles is pretty early to be any type of wear on the seals, change your oil, use 10w30 at least. the subie guys use 40 grades like 0w40, 5w40, 10w40, HD 15w40 which is reasonable for any turbo engine. The new turbo manuals for North America mentions 5w30 only, it's for Corporate Average Fuel Economy reasons, not engine and turbo longevity.
haha yah the Si with the listed mods should have kept up, the kid driving it must have just learned how to drive manual lol....i have a 07 Si with hondata ecu management and intake/exhaust, and with the vtec remapped to 4200 rpm...haven't had a chance to dyno it yet but it feels a lot quicker with the vtec engaging into high cam profile at 4200 rpm as opposed to 5800....drinks alot more gas too so i dont really recommend it.
the cool thing is...you can easily put a turbo up to 550-600 horsepower on a mazdaspeed 3.......and the only toyota i want is a..........supra.......:)......the interiors look like something from a ford pinto....cmon toyota get a little creative!

What mods does an XRS have...it's a frikkin corolla. This one looked aftermarket, and it was quick. Still no match for the MS. I'm waiting for the reviews on the 2010. I love it.
a stock mazdaspeed 3 has 263 hp and 280 ft lb of torque....a crayolla xrs has 158 hp stock.....the crayolla must have been modified or it wouldnt even be close!

It looks like he's just reaching the 6k range. He'd better rev up and that XRS won't be pulling so far away. 06 XRS got the same engine as in the Lotus, which got VVTL-i (not VVT-i). That's something pretty similar to VTEC.

the corolla xrs uses the same intake as all other models which were made for the 1zz not 2zz. also a stock ecu xrs falls out of lift when you shift. when you put a i/h/e on an xrs its a big ass improvment but when you use the hydra ems (full stand alone e-mang) you can tune it to stay in lift after you shift belive me i've see a stock xrs just tuned keep right next to a z the whole time
You'd have to be screeching 4 wheels to accelerate past even a minivan that dramatically. Maybe the SI turns out to be the slowest, but that SI driver was not doing that car justice. It just doesn't look like the guy in the Si downshifted. I mean it didn't look like it had any extra push at all, it was going so steadily that it was just funny. I'm sure if he downshifted, the VTEC engaged the Si would at least have kept up that race.

all i have to say is the kid in the speed 3 does not know how to drive...stock hes prob still a good .5-1.0 seconds faster then those to cars at the track 1/4mile that is...maybe the speed 3 started in 2nd...whice would explain why the xrs had the jump...he he was prob shiftn at 6700rpm not 5800 where he should be

wrong, was shifting at 5600 with my BONE STOCK speed3 against an i/h/e/ems XRS. let me break that down for you; intake, catless header, exhaust, tuned with an apexi ems(engine management system)

ok well your a moron for one shifting that low....5800-6000 thats where you should shift and STOCK speed3s are around 240hp-250trq to the wheels...and im sure that 158hp-164trq corollaxrs isnt pushing 100+hp-100+trq from those mods and the weight dif is only about 150pounds...so basicly what your telling me is that you suck at driving...thanks for breaking it down for me..

just look at the facts a SI has 197 hp and a XRS from what ive looked into only have 150hp, on paper the xrs is not faster than anything. it just depends on the driver. ive beat guys in subaru wrx in my mazda 3 and i know that mycar isnt nearly as fast it just depends on the skill of the driver.

I have owned many great cars in my life, including corvettes, a Lotus Esprit Turbo, and a Mercedes SL55. Just to beat around in, I purchased a 2003 Matrix XRS. It is one of the most surprisingly fast vehicles I have ever owned. I've embarrassed many cars I would not have believed unless I experienced it personally. It now has 147k on it and it's still running strong. It's no wonder Lotus chose to put this motor in its Elise and Exige.

GTS is not 'unstoppable' you guys ever get of the computer and actually hit up a dyno? my boys gts WITH injen short ram inake and exhaust only made 152hp to the ground.you guys are all full of it. there was an ae86 TWIN CHARGED (turbo & supercharged) on 4ag motor @ the dyno it made 239hp to the ground.there was also a supercharged EG civic w a b18 that made 220hp to the ground. so you guys need to quit smokin cause 190 whp frm a corrolla/celica NA,is bullshit my friends.

Yes indeed. The weight of the GTS is what really makes it so quick. It's lighter than the XRS and has 10 more horsepower due to a more aggressive tune.

I saw a website that talked about the hard break in. He said to change out the oil after 8o miles to flsh the metal bits left over from machining. He also said et the car rev down, don't use the dyno brake. Interesting stuff. I'm considering AMS oil with a shot of Lucas. Any thoughts on that?

sounds like you know whats up. is AMS amsoil you mean? they make a good oil, but the Lucas.. I'd stay far away from the lucas. definately dont use the lucas in your engine, it will spike the thickness of the oil so much and to an unpredictable level and can slow down the flow rate through the parts which can actually reduce the oils performance. lucas should be limited to old, tired worn out engines . a quality motor oil is all you need! peace

THe lucas is going in my '99 accord with 100K on it.:) You said you broke your car in hard..someone told me not to use synthetic at break in because of it's qualities, I just want to make sure I do this right. There is a ton of literature on the MZR DISI, I'm lovin it. Thanks for the advice.

yeah dude, when you break in hard, you allow the first abrasive coating of the cylinderwalls to wear the rings in to make a good seal. the rough finish on the cylinders only lasts a short time thats why you gotta use it when its there cuz once it wears out then it then the rings are pretty much left at that 'shape'. it's true about the synthetic oil, but after about 2000miles and after the break in you can go right to synth. my opinions have definetly takin a turn for the worst......had to take the speed 3 in for a bad turbo seal...this with only 1300 miles on it..and while yeah i get on it once in awhile,i dont ramrod it.......not happy at the moment....and still not sure if its fixed or not....so that being said...be warned speed 3 owners...if your using alot of oil......look out........more power to those who havent had issues

dude, the problem with turbo seals is a combo of when you use 5w30 (and god forbid 5w20) oil, and install a TBE, and fail to upgrade the TURBO INLET PIPE. If you do the exhaust, you MUST upgrade the turbo inlet pipe, or else there will be excessively uneven pressures between the compressor and turbine. The seals are not going bad as people think, its that the pressures are pushing the thin oil into the exhaust side, causing it to burn. changing the INLET PIPE solves the problem....

because the stock inlet pipe is restrictive and causes turbulence which causes axial forces on the K04's cartridge, allowing oil to push into the turbine side, an upgraded INLET PIPE virtually eliminates the turbulence and also flows better. The turbo seals are metal "labyrinth" type (and are not worn in 1300miles), they just will allow more oil to pass if theyre being loaded to one side, from uneven pressures and turbulence. Trust me, changing the inlet pipe WILL solve the issue.

i have heard using heavier oil like 10w-30 reduces oil consumption..but havent tried it yet...as for the turbo inlet....im still running a stock exhaust system......so will this even help?

ya it'll help either way, no question. stock turbo inlet pipe is terrible.. 1300miles is pretty early to be any type of wear on the seals, change your oil, use 10w30 at least. the subie guys use 40 grades like 0w40, 5w40, 10w40, HD 15w40 which is reasonable for any turbo engine. The new turbo manuals for North America mentions 5w30 only, it's for Corporate Average Fuel Economy reasons, not engine and turbo longevity.

haha yah the Si with the listed mods should have kept up, the kid driving it must have just learned how to drive manual lol....i have a 07 Si with hondata ecu management and intake/exhaust, and with the vtec remapped to 4200 rpm...haven't had a chance to dyno it yet but it feels a lot quicker with the vtec engaging into high cam profile at 4200 rpm as opposed to 5800....drinks alot more gas too so i dont really recommend it.

It looks like he's just reaching the 6k range. He'd better rev up and that XRS won't be pulling so far away. 06 XRS got the same engine as in the Lotus, which got VVTL-i (not VVT-i). That's something pretty similar to VTEC.

the corolla xrs uses the same intake as all other models which were made for the 1zz not 2zz. also a stock ecu xrs falls out of lift when you shift. when you put a i/h/e on an xrs its a big ass improvment but when you use the hydra ems (full stand alone e-mang) you can tune it to stay in lift after you shift belive me i've see a stock xrs just tuned keep right next to a z the whole time

the Si DOES NOT have identical mods as the XRS... the new Si's have a drive by wore system that makes it really hard to tune correctly and most reflashes or can tunes out there are garbage... untill K-Pro cracks the ECU the Si's will never have a decent tune... and a reflash IS NOT the same thing as having an EMS...

please ms3 are no match for si turbo stock eternals just turbo setup and some programmers dynoed at 346 wheel horsepower at 8 pounds of boost it took 6 hours to tune it to its max evo sti no match ill post videos when i get them from my friend in seatle

lol! Why even bother trying to race a MS3?? Speed3's are way way fucking faster than Civic si's. This should be common knowledge by now! Let's see: Civic Si runs about 15.1 stock vs. 14.0 for the speed3. The SI should be racing the regular 3, scions, and shit like that.

much respect for the xrs...i know intake and exhaust makes a big difference with the xrs but once you put EMS on it and tuned properly it's a nasty car...
i think the main point of this race is not the si losing but how the xrs hanged with the speed3!!! dang!!!!!
ohhh and for the si lovers!!they always say dont compare boost to n/a sure!!i paid 1000 more to get an speed3 over an si..try boosting an si and see how much you'll be spending..oh yeah good luck with the traction!!!

It just doesn't look like the guy in the Si downshifted. I mean it didn't look like it had any extra push at all, it was going so steadily that it was just funny. I'm sure if he downshifted, the VTEC engaged the Si would at least have kept up that race.

i second that opinion... that si might have been on 3rd instead of 2nd... i think the xrs would have still won anyway with all those undisclosed modes but oh well... xrs not bad for keeping up with ms3

2nd time viewing... yeah... those 2 guys in the si must have been like wtf? are these guys trying to race themselves or what? and then carried on just cruising around... if you know the guy in the si, you should make another video... i think power to weight would go to xrs but seriously, this si owner was probably drinking coffee and reading newsweek while all this was happening!!
