  • Ireland IT IS NOT TOO LATE!

We here in America are proud of you for STANDING STRONG against the EU

We have already lost our country. We have officialy become a colony once again!

LONG LIVE IRELAND! You are the PRIDE OF EUROPE!

  • LONG LIVE EU!!!! Good thing they voted yes the second time

  • @bbphnix you are the type of people that plunged us into war twice.

The peoples of Europe shall rebel!

  • LONG LIVE EU!!!!

  • Death to EU and Lisbon Treaty

  • iam an american, and from what i see, the eu does not respect the no vote ,at all.

in fact you can hear the eu leaders say they need the lisbon treaty.....

meaning to me, they are not going to take no for an answer...............

  • the politicans in EU need the Lisbon so they can taking more power from the people

  • Thanks to the EU-

Our Irish National day has become a National Farce!

    watch?v=T8KIwIcAQok

  • Keep fighting! Don't let up!

  • Well Done Ireland. I'm proud of you don't back down. Ireland is import just as other countries.

  • What Next?

Well, for start the next move is to intergrate the Armed Forces into one EU Armed Forces. This will allow Europe to protect itself much better like a country.

That day for me will mark the birth of Europe as One country under One Leader and protected by One Army.

    United States of Europe.

This is how Moscow controls Russia which is basicaly a collection of Republics which have given over power to Moscow.

  • If the people votes NO for the lissabon-treaty, they will just make a re-vote... That´s democracy.

    NO TO EU!

    YES TO INDEPENDENT EUROPEAN COUNTRIES!

  • yyeeeessss...

ireland is back in the game europe.

GO FUCK YOURSELVES ANTI EU LUNATICS!

  • In the end, 67% of the electorate voted in favour of the Treaty. 33% voted against. Those are the figures. A 2-1 majority in favour of the Lisbon Treaty, amounting to a total of 1,205,00 voters. The turnout was in the region of 58-59%, appreciably higher than that for the first Lisbon referendum. When it came to the crunch, the people came out to vote and two thirds of them voted 'Yes'.

  • Vote NO for the Lisbon Treaty

  • PLEASE VOT NO

    TANKS FROM ITALY

  • We will vote NO again because our clear democratic majority has been denied by the undemocratic European elite. This is a bad treaty as the French and Dutch have already decided and voted NO to. We do not want to see Europe develop in the fashion the present elite have decided. Their outdated economic policies have landed us in the present finanial ruin and we do not want them to continue to make us accept their leadership. They are failed and they will fail in trying to make us vote again.

  • think about who is voting no, the USA puppet declan ganley, the northern criminals sin fein, along with some other dim wits who dont understand and of course anti european rasist parties

  • NO MEANS NO! Will be Voting NO again!

  • Please Irish fellows.... explain to our tyrants that NO means NO

  • what's wrong with bureaucracy? tis called SHARING ideas. SHARE.

I am voting NÍL (NO) next Friday because I can. Les from Baile Átha Cliath Dublin, ÉIREANN (Ireland).

  • france and holland voted no also but the so called leaders who are bilderberger puppets ran over the the people and said yes because globalist scum dont think people can think and choose for them self.

  • vote no.

    no means no

no to nancy boys runnning ireland

  • We will have to teach them how to spell no.Its spealt NNNNOOOOOOO....OK !!

  • The Rape of Europe: "No Means No!"

Isn't Europe setting itself up for a fall? Aren't the elitists intent on preparing the way for their king, a modern Charlemagne, forging the European Union after the model of the "Holy Roman Empire"? Isn't Germany the architect of this grand design? The Jesuits the power behind this throne? (read more ...)

  • I gotta leaflet in the letter box today from the pro treaty camp. I used it to roche a joint. The audacity of these fuckin feckers making me get off my ass to go and vote no again. "To be at the heart of europe": the heart of europe my bollox xD

  • I am voting NO. If you vote YES then say bye bye to out national minimum wage. Horrible to think that employers will pay you whatever they want. Sure YES creates jobs, very very low paid jobs. And not even our Government will be able to change these rules. They'll have to go to the EU and beg them. So don't listen to our cowardly Government as they don't listen to us, which is why they forced this vote on us again. Vote NO like me. Or have no voice.

  • Not being a European, I wonder why there is still a push for countries to ratify the treaty if it has already been declined and should go back to the drawing table to allow the democratic process to continue in a way that everyone could agree upon.

  • Because sooner or later we will have to centralise the European power. Since you are American, try to imagine that Washing D.C isn't your capital city. Imagine that each of your states got its own version of Washington D.C. This is the situation in Europe, and because of this the union suffer incredible bureaucracy.

  • Kinda sad that one country of roughly 5 million can stall the progress of the other 26 nations.

  • Well if it's voted yes a lot less people will control the lives of a lot more people , now that's fucking sad .

  • Only if you don't trust those people.

  • Interesting that only 1 country voted on the Lisbon treaty. It is the only one who truly has proven it's democratic ideals.

  • To have a referendum about such a delicate question is stupid. If you don't trust EU, vote EU conservative instead and let the elected politicians do their job.

  • " The EU is certainly playing, and will continue to play,a central role in shaping the new order that is gradually emerging...the EU is a natural starting point for any effort to improve global governance "

(The un-elected commission's El Presidente José Barrosso speaking this year at "The EU & Global Governance" conference.

Google : European Gendarmerie Force (the EU's own paramilitary),EU Corpus Juris,No2Lisbon2,Open Europe.

WAKE UP to the LIsbon putsch !

  • We here in central europe would be happy to get the opportunity to vote, but they denied us this basic right (no matter the outcome).

They frantically try to allow only a YES to this treaty, and they dont want the people to have any say in it.

The irish have a unique chance to speak for all of europe actually - for those, who are not heard.

  • ju know, does it not say enough about how dodgy this treaty is, that most countries were not allowed vote like?

  • The reason the treaty was not ratified by the Irish,in my opinion, was nothing to do with right for life issue's,neutrality or any of the lame exscuses that their government put forward as garuntee's on ratifiying it the next time. They are just sick of the corruption both political and corporate.Their past 3 fianna fail toiseach's have been linked to various scandal's and they have many link's to the CFR and bildeburg..i.e. Pat Cox,etc etc

  • But no matter what consessions are given to Ireland for them to ratify this treaty it can be taken away 5,10 or 20 years down the line. By passing this treaty we are giving up our democratic rights and therefor will not have any say in the future government. Is it just me or are Jack boots coming back into fashion?

  • There are no plans for a European army.

"Within the Eu itself,we will have to move closer to establishing a common European army" ( Angela Merkel ).

" The need to bolster Europe's military capabilities to match our aspirations is more urgent than ever " ( The EU's Javier Solana ).

" I am sure that in medium-term we will have a European army financed by the EU budget (i.e. us taxpayers). ( W.Schönfelder,German ambassador to the EU ).

    Some people NEVER learn !

  • Well with comments like that Jake cream Bum, it's no guess why most people don't want a political union.

  • ok, let's say something clearly, I put my dick in your fucking irish mouth.

  • fuck you, you Romanian scum.

Your country will never have a say on the welfare of mine.

NO TO LISBON ( AGAIN & AGAIN TILL THEY GET THE IDEA )

  • your irish ideea , fucking moron, do you think European Union really need your irish ass??Think again. There are many countries in this union, your opinion is not really necessary.

  • We are one of the founding members ( unlike your shitty country )

I don't even know why I'm bothering to reply to an ignorant fuck such as yourself. but anyway.....

"your opinion is not really necessary" by saying that you obviously don't have a fucking clue. For the treaty to pass it requires all of the member states to agree. We didn't last June & so the treaty never came into action, nor will it in october when we vote it out again.

  • ha-ha, you make me laugh, "for the treaty to pass it requires all of the member states to agree".Do you think you , and your country is God??Rules can be change everytime, my friend. If you, and your asshole peoples are mules then the rest of countries may change rules.

  • That's very kind of you. :)

  • My God, everytime will be some idiots to say no to a good think.Irish peoples, nationalist-extremist peoples, go fuck yourself.

  • Fucking irish gipsies, you and your fucking I.R.A., what do you fucking want??If you don't want E.U. well, go fuckyourself, you, and your island. You are more gipsie then all the rest of the europeans, savages!!!!Nobody say need irish in European Union.

  • "irish gipsies" I fucking lol'd at that. Kettle calling the pot black........ stinking romanians coming over here and begging on our streets. Fucking filth

  • We do want the EU, we are anti-Lisbon treaty. But I can see by your angry ranting that arguing with you will undoubtedly result in you calling me names.

  • Long Live to European Union, don,t be so nationalists.Together we will win our proud, your european country is to small to be an authority in the world.

  • The 5,000 strong EUROPEAN GENDARMERIE FORCE (EGF) is patiently waiting for the Lisbon treaty to be ratified.

It will be "first and foremost at the disposal of the EU" and deployed across Europe for "crisis management operations" ( i.e. demonstrations and riots ).

The officers all wear a badge with a grey flaming grenade & sword.

The European Charter becomes law post Lisbon and allows the use of "lethal force" to "quell rioting and insurrection"

    Google Prof.Schachtschneider.

  • Coming to a street near you after Lisbon .

The para-military EGF officers are from Rumania, italy,Spain,Portugal,France,Holland with Turkish "observers".

If you like photos of police officers with machine guns, sniper rifles, armoured cars and assorted riot gear then visit their site by googling EUROPEAN GENDARMERIE FORCE.

Ireland, please save democratic Europe (and yourselves) from this nightmare vision !

  • spenner56 , you just try to scare peoples, stop this bullshit about European Gendarmerie Force, and, by the way, romanians don't eat peoples .

  • Do you not know how to google ?

Your comment on cannabalism reminds me of a quote by Mohammed Ali. He was once told by a white waitress that "Sorry, but we don't serve coloured people". "No problem",replied Ali " 'cos I don't eat 'em ".

Good luck to you and greetings from Germany (where 77% of the population want a referendum on the Lisbon treaty/constitution).

  • I saw the video about European Gendarmerie Force, it's nothing to be afraid about those institution.I saw co-operation between poland and romanian gendarmerie force and they said clearly they don't want to destroy and wound peoples.

  • Please vote NO to the Lisbon Constitution. It is not good enough to have a European Constitution that reads like a phone book and that only the Irish citizens get to vote on. Democracy is in the hands of the Irish people. Voting no to Lisbon will not change the economic situation for the better or the worse. This is a tactic being used by the Government and certain media with vested interests in a yes vote to distract from the actual content of the Treaty. Please do not be fooled, vote NO.

  • More demacratic, ha Ireland was the ONLY one to put it to a reverindum.

  • If more countries had a reverendum, I'm sure more countries would have said no! thank you Ireland!

    Peace.

  • Imagine. Imagine no commission unelected as they are no million regulations sent to us from afar imagine legislation made by those we know oh,oh,oh I know you may call me a dreamer but Im not the only one one day you will join us and Europe will be as one (..as a trading block, not as an imposed, artificial federal state no-one was ever asked if they wanted ). Dont give the EU the legitimacy it cravesdont vote.
  • Well lets respect Irland decision in the most democratic way as possible by accepting their decision as a people.

And then start working on a date to excluding them as member of the EU.

They dont have to be in the new proposed Europe, aswell as any other member that choses not to !!!

  • They make it seem as if Ireland has betrayed the EU.

Maybe they have betrayed the EU parliament, but who cares? EU parliament betrayed the people.

    Freedom to Europe! GO IRELAND!

  • ashamed this fraud has the name of my country's capital :( thak you irish people

  • One law for the politicians and one for the plebs -

Don't do as I do -- Do as I say!!!!

  • ...to make Europe more democratic.... WTF! Lies built upon lies!

To everyone in Ireland and every EU citizen remeber:

"In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act."

    George Orwell - 1984

  • Remember, according to the recent German Constitutional Court decision there IS NO SUCH THING AS AN EU CITIZEN ! If anyone from the un-elected commission says there is...they are lying !

The Court also ruled that the EU/European parliament is too undemocratic to represent citizens of the sovereign countries of Europe ! Only national parliaments can do this.

  • Why didnt' we ALL get to vote???

Thats the question we should push

  • Barosso you don't respect the Irish outcome if you did you would move on with another project instead of asking them to vote again in the autumn.

I think the second referendum will be fixed.

  • EU LIES :

There are no plans for a European superstate or army.

There are no plans to take British & French naval bases under EU control.

Galileo is for civilian use only.

Lisbon is not comparable to the Constitution.

There is (was) `no plan B if the Irish reject Lisbon´.

The (un-elected) commission repects the Irish vote.

Ireland's NO blocks the will of millions of Europeans.

The storing of e-mails & phone calls is a commercial matter.

Google : EU corpus juris...and kiss liberty goodbye.

  • and that's just a small list, the fascist Fourth Reich (EU) wants to destroy democracy and will not hesitate to use any means to do so

  • Rigid leaders don't understand how multi-core architectures can benefit their members and non-members. High-level establishment doesn't have authorities embedded garbage on independent cores. identical cores and completely different designed cores are all members to improve the speed and validity. Freedom is the ultimate efficiency and effectiveness. Snap performance burst-able investments are not an economy. If they can compromise you not to see homeless and hunger, it guarantees u'll be there.

  • Reject the irish no vote? Big mistake Brussels. The next No vote will be so decisive it will fly up Barosso's ass @500mph leaving him with anal dysfunction for the rest of his life! LONG LIVE EUROPEAN DEMOCRACY, NO TO LISBON =D!

  • Good for you Irish who voted NO! Keep strong!

Pray for Ireland. Pray for the world.

And thank God for YouTube because now we all have an open opportunity to know things that are going on in the world that most people could not have known about when all we had was the mass media owned by jerks. If we can become a more informed public and find ways to stand up for ourselves maybe we still have a chance of survival....

  • Stop the powerful Elites from grabbing on to more power.Their plan is complete total power. Thank you Ireland

  • Thank GOD the Irish voted against this!

  • i agree. However, they will probably just kick them out or force them to leave via some other mechanism. People should be asking what happened to referendums in other countries.

  • Well done my Irish friends who voted NO!

    God bless you all.

Stand strong & don't let them EU hypocrites take your beautiful country.

  • Designed to make Europe more transparent? Not from where MEPs are sitting. They're voting on amendments and laws and they don't know what's in them!!

  • Im so proud of the Irish part of my make up and disgusted by our government (no change there) But this treaty is just too far, it can't be allowed to happened. Please vote no again Ireland, you are the most important and most noble land in this world right now. I would gladly move to ireland and stand shoulder to shoulder with u in this battle 4 democracy and human rights, cause that is what it is! Thank you again Ireland, stand strong & protect all common people all over Europe and the world.

  • It was 64%.. Liars...

  • Need the treaty for what? For the political elite, not for the people.

  • Who's real interest is it to have this "treaty". Certainly not the common person. Democracy, what a joke. There is no such thing working at the moment. The politicians are just in the pockets of the financiers. It doesn't matter who you vote for, they are all chosen by the same people. But then, we wouldn't be able to keep screwing the third world if we had decent people running the western countries, now would we? Anyone care for a pint of oil to go with your weapon of mass disinformation?

  • The Lisbon Treaty is a brilliantly concieved document that is a "self amending" treaty (Article 48) that paves the way for the most perfect of totalitarian states.

Vote against it AGAIN Ireland PLEASE because if ratified by all 27 states it will become illegal to even criticise the EU,let alone vote against it under the European Court of Justice ruling ( case 274/99 )!

    Long live Europe

    Long live Ireland

    Long live democracy.

  • "We respect the outcome of this referendum.." BUT "the most important thing is that we carry on with ratification."

    Democracy in Action! (EU style)

  • At least the Irish get a choice, those wankers Blair and Brown sold our fucking souls without giving us a choice, keep voting NO, Ireland, I hope you do not end up part of this nightmare.

Fuck, I may even move out there if you don't, England will go to the dogs even more.

  • how can they Repect irish voters when they now try to force us to vote again these fucking people need to listen i voted no i mean fucking no theres going to be bad trouble

  • the treaty needs to be changed. i think other countrys would have voted NO if given the chance instead of being ratified by there goverments behind closed doors. i will voted NO again if a second vote is pushed at me without changes to the treaty and be very insulted by such a bullying tactic

  • im irish i voted no because ireland will have less say in the EU and big countrys like france, britain germany and poland(big populations) will have the most power, so i fear we and other small countrys will be bullied and ignored. i didnt agree with a few other things either abortion, EU courts ruling over irelands courts...

  • Thanks to Ireland from USA. You don't want to have the problems we are facing here. Keep up the good fight.

  • Death to globalism.

  • Thanks for Irland from Poland

  • what hilter and the nazi's tried and failed to do 60 years ago..

    the EU is trying again..

    NO NWO!

  • It would be hard for French or German to rule EU if 27 countries can barely agree on anything. But there is truth in Irish perspective of Treaty. Before we accept something like that, we need to make decision-making more democratic and cut down on bureaucracy that is present in Brussels.

also lot of EU regulations are just plain idiocy and that also would have to go. But try to convince those at the top. But then we need reforms now, so Ireland found itself between rock and a hard place.

  • JA!!! EU ist gut!!!! we finish final solution.

  • why you reject? you do not want super power?

  • Yes that is why we rejected Lisbon - we do not wish to be part of a corrupt, autocratic centrist & French led project. Do you?

  • who wants super power? we have seen again what power does to countries. super power can destory a state.

and it was a bad deal for europe

  • (1) Art.48 (TEU) - also called the "passerelle" clause - will allow moving the legislative bases for the harmonisation/approximation of indirect and direct taxation from unanimity to QMV!

    (2) New Art.352 (TFEU) confers upon the Union a general power to attain any of the objectives of the Treaties, among them the objective to ensure 'free and undistorted competition'. '- Opt-outs offered to countries ratifying Lisbon are not worth the paper they are written on' -Valery Giscard d'Estaing

  • Mr McCreevy is the Eu commisioner for EU internal markets. His message is clear - Lisbon treaty is the mechanism by which the EU will take control of taxation. Every power they need to do it is hidden in the clauses and subclauses. It is absolutely necessary for this emerging EU empire (yes even Barrosso called it an empire) to take control of taxation. The EU wants to take your nation democratic rights and your money - to furter it's own ambitions. Don't say you weren't told!

  • According to Charlie McCreevy "The long term hidden agenda" is for a Common Consolidated Corporate Tax Base (CCCTB) to enable the Commission to take control of taxation, first by making it optional. When this proves unworkable, the Commission could take control of taxation and smaller countries in particular would no longer be able, or have the incentive, to manage effectively their public finance or direct foreign investment. (Irish Independent Newspaper, 12 May 2007) FROM THE HEART OF THE EU!

  • in my conutry parlament ratified treaty without referendum and many people dont knows about it so where is democracy in eu??????

  • OMG! 3 countries said NO, not counting the other countries that the right of vote was taken from them. What is this Europe? For people or vs people? Europeans dont want this Europe, and this europe is dead . The EU is all about money , and fachism. Thank you Irland for saving Europe. Long life to Ireland. Please dont let them to make you vote again... that is unlawful that is an insult to democracy and promises.

  • This treaty is bollocks. We will end your plutocracy and the people will have democracy

  • The treaty was deliberately made hard to understand so the corrupt, appointed bureaucrats, domininated by the french and germans, would have, at their finger tips a European empire.(remind u of somthing from previous centries).

  • A YES vote to a EU constitution would pass for sure only in Spain (as it already happened), Portugal, Italy, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovenia and the Baltic Countries. I don't know about Germany and Belgium but probably it wouldn't pass. Now, is it possible to conceive a European Union made up of Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy and some eastern countries? Of course not.

  • God Bless Ireland. You are the 5th country saying NO. So dotn give up.. you saved Europe from this hard to understand treaty.

  • Another lie!!!

they are the 3the country saying no.

and I'm from 1 of thos countries and I feel ashamed.

  • I consider my self to be a europhile. I truly believe in the European Integration Process and what it can represent. But of course there's another thing I believe in, which is called Democracy. Now, it is clear that the majority of people in certain countries (above all UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark) are against the Integration Process. Conceiving a European Union without these countries, that, culturally and geopolitically, are at the very core of Europe would be pointless.

  • CaesarAugustus1987 why do you "believe in the Integration Process"?, all integration means is removing power from individual Parliaments, (and therefore removing liberty from people)and transferring that power to a secretive, unelected, and unaccountable elite in Brussels! what kind of a dream is that?

  • That's where I believe you're making a mistake: I don't believe the problem is integration, but how integraton is managed. I agree that the way through which european politicians are doing that is wrong but this doesn't mean that there wouldn't be more democratic, transparent and accountable ways to do that. European Integration is like Nuclear Power: if well managed it can bring about a lot of benefits. If badly-managed it can turn into a disaster.

  • CaesarAugsustus thats where your wrong, integration,no matter how its "managed" is ananti-liberty ideal, for one reason, you cant harmonise 27 completely different nations, whoose peoples may wish to vote to take their nation in a different political, direction from the EU,so the only way to "harmonise" is to impose integration on the people centrally, with an unelected, secretive elite, the EU have the right idea, this is the only way to achieve Integration! Unless, that is,you dont want integration..

  • That's why I really don't like Nigel Farage and its fellows: they don't support constructive euroscepticism, they just fuel populist europhobic propaganda (very similar to the one of far-right totalitarian regimes). But again, european politicians have blown everything. There was a time, not so long ago, when the public was for the EU. They could have seized the moment putting the EU reform process in a democratic and transparent direction. But they didn't.

  • CaesarAugustus on the contrary the reason Nigel Farage doesnt support"constructive" euroscepticism,is there is no such thing! when you understand the true nature of the EU,summed up in its founding phrase "towards ever closer union" you realise "euroscepticism" is dishonest, the only two honourable positions are FOR or AGAINST EU membership! there is no in-between,if you believe in "ever-closer union",you stay.if you believe in liberty, you leave! economic co-operation but not political union!

  • also the public was never FOR the EU,but the entire political elite, and media, were against anyone who criticised it! eg In Ireland, there is no party to vote for if you dont like the integration process, as ALL the parties are pro-EU!The people were never given an honest choice, when they voted Yes,in the 1975 referendum, coz the ballot paper pretended it was just a Common Market.the people have been denied referendums on most of the treaties concerning the EU's real objective, political union!

  • But they didn't. Instead they started writing complicated, restrictive, socially-oriented (rather than economically-oriented) constitutional treaties and, in doing that, they believed they would have managed to fool the public, whereas they only accomplished one thing: putting the public against them and giving people like Nigel Farage the possibility to unleash all their propagandistic, populist potential.

  • actually the propaganda is all on the pro-EU side! The EU have been lying to the peoples of Europe for decades, they lied over the "Common Market" referendum, they lied over how much power Maastricht would give away, they lied about how much national legislation actually comes from EC Directives, and they lied about the recent Constitution, claiming it was a "treaty" when everyone knows it is the same as the original Constitution rejected by the Dutch and French!

  • Forcing these countries to pursue more integration through legal procedures, with the majority of the people against, would be a big mistake that can exarcebate the atmosphere. Even though I support it, I've come to understand that this process cannot continue (at least now). I can only hope that somewhen in the future Pro-European ideas will start to flourish amongst the people (not the politicians) of these countries. But I must be realist. These ideas are not present today.

  • Honestly, I don't believe it is a problem of democratic accountability. Even if they signed a treaty that allows the people to elect the commissioners, even if they gave more power to the eu parliament and made it more transparent, even if they made the EU the most democratic body of the planet, people (in these countries) would always vote NO because they do not want the EU. British, Irish, Dutch, Swedish and Danish do not want the EU. We've got to accept that.

  • thats correct,CaesarAuagustus even if the commisioners were elected,it wouldnt work, because how could 700 million people with wholly different national interests, all get fair representation? the problem you correctly say,is the EU itself!the only form in which true democracy, can survive,is the nation-state! We can co-operate economically, and on other issues, but our individual Parliaments must retain political power, so that liberty rests with the people not with a centralised elite!

  • I think that are other issues on which european countries should cooperate because by cooperating they can reach better results and these issues are political ones: 1) Like or not, Russia controls the energy of the entire continent. A portuguese might be different from a pole but they bought by gas from Moscow: a common foreign policy towards Russia would benefit both because Russia wouldn't even consider the individual positions of, say, Belgium or Slovenia.

  • 2) Like it or not, all Europe is being invaded by masses of people from Africa and the Middle east. A guy from Italy and a guy from Netherlands may have different cultures, languages and tradition but it is a fact that both are under the immigration threat. Facing this threat together wouldn't be better than facing that alone?

  • Finally, why do I agree with the EURO? For a simple reason, not because I simply believe that the upsides of the euro will outnumber the downsides more and more in the future. The biggest percentage of EU countries trade is with other EU countries. 60% of Britain's trade is with Europe. Having the same currency stabilizes trade because companies do not have to worry about the currency of belgium devaluating against the one of Austria

  • there is a simple reason the Euro should never be adopted by Britain.Economist Meynard Keynes famously wrote "He who controls your currency controls your country". if the Bank Of England no longer has the power to set our own country's interest rates, then we no longer have anycontrol over our own nation, and its fortunes, if eg Germany wants interest rates up, but Britain needs them cut,who wins? the Euro sould never be adopted, it would mean the end of our economic independence

  • Alright, you didn't even read what I wrote. I mean, you don't have to necessarily agree with my view but at least your response should be based on my answer to your first question, whereas you're simply re-writing your first question. I'm a pragmatic person but most eurosceptic and europhiles are full of preconception and that's a limitation that will never allow you to find a solution.

  • no you never responded to my point. I quoted econonomist Meynard Keynes, who said control of currency, is key to control of country. The real point about maintaining the pound, is not that it will necessarily remain strong, or stable but that it keeps us independent. Joining the euro, means we no longer set our own interest rates. And we no longer run our own country, for better or worse!

  • Again, interest rates are set for two reasons: fighting inflation, stimulating growth. Recent events prove that, given the level of interdependency of european economies, when growth slows, it slows all over europe, when inflation rises, it rises all over Europe. Individual european countries, included Britain, have no such weight that allows them to address Growth and Inflation all alone. Keynes died in 1946. Sorry.

  • Keynes point about national sovereignty, remains as relevant today,as if he had said it in 1846!Interdependency is irrelevant.British interest rates might be linked to Europe NOW,but if we joined the euro, and the situation changed in the future, and we had different needs to Germany, we would not have the ability to change our interest rates to suit our needs, as we would no longer be in control of them! The Bank Of England controls our economy, far more than it would if we were to join the euro!

  • The Central Bank England controls nothing. The size of the British economy is too small on a global scale to allow your bankers to actually control what goes on in your economy. When Keyenes (an economist that I know and admire) said those things Britain had a status in the world that today doesn't have. The United States is at the moment that only country that still can "try" (not even manage to) control its economy through its central bank.

  • dis information right here !!!!!

The central bank owns the world my friend, and I dont care what country it is.

  • *Keynes pardon

  • Also individual european economies are too small and except probably for the Pound and the Mark the other currencies would end up depending on the dollar anyway. Plus you shouldn't forget that in 40 years from now there won't be even 1 european countries in the list of the world's largest economies so also the Mark and the Pound would end up losing their famous stability. The argument most people make "one interest rate cannot fit all" is wrong. I'll tell you why

  • Recent events have proved that when growth slows it slows all over Europe and when inflation raises it raises all over Europe. Why? because European economies have become enormously interdependent. In 30 years from now the level of economic dependence of the European Countries on each other will be probably equal than the level of economic dependence of EU states on each other. I agree with you: people all over europe are too different from a cultural point of you to fit in one nation state

  • which is why I said I support a European Trading Block, and free trade area, in addition to close economic co-operation,though the EU,particularly the French, have a protectionist economic policy, swallow huge amounts of the CAP budget in farm subsidies, and have no interest in co-operation,Britain does not need to depend on the EU,it is still a world commerce centre

  • But it is also true that the number of common interests (economic and geopolitical ones) european countries have is huge. You would look like a fool if you were to claim that Slovakia and Hungary or Spain and France do not have the same geopolitical interests. In a globalized world, ECONOMIC and GEOPOLITICAL INTERESTS have nothing to do with the culture or the identity of people from that nation.

  • Slovakia, and Spain may share common interests, but they also have huge differences over their future direction they wish to take, and Britain and Ireland may have different needs, and goals to France/Germany etc the point is,in a free country, that is NOT a member of the EU,natioons can FREELY co-operate on areas where they share interests, but being EU members, means they must co-operate whether they wish to or not!

  • I don't want to create the United States of Europe. That just doesn't work. I would like the politicians to go and tell the people: listen there are these 5 or 6 issues on which we have common interests and therefore we have to cooperate. So we are going to sign 5 or 6 NATO-style treaties that are related only on that particular issue without trying to constitutionalize Europe.

  • The reason why you british people (that's not a criticism, it's an opinion) have problems to understan the concept of common interests within the european continent is because you still think of the world as if we were in 1920, where actually Europe was the centre of the planet and there were powers competing against each other. That's not the case today. The European Continent is going to become less and less relevant in the years to come

  • no the main reason Britain is anti-EU is The EU,as well as controlling our borders, wants the ECJ to supersede the legal systems, and laws of each nation, creating a harmonised Euro legal system. But Britain's legal system is unique in Europe,as the only nation with the notion "all is permitted unless explicitly prohibited",with habeaus corpus,a right to jury trial, right to silence etc,our system of common law and Parliamentary democracy are wholly different from less free European systems

  • Look some britains are living in my country and some of others are tourist. The tourist are made a "party" at last summer and they destroyd a hole city.So...dont be so prud of your uniqe system....It isnt working.

  • crime is because the British police have been taken off the streets, and our courts no longer punish people properly! But our Parliamentary system, and legal system, makes our country the most free in Europe! We are the only country in Europe with habeaus corpus, a right to jury trial, etc.

  • Probably, if in 2050 there were a war in Europe, it wouldn't even been considered so important by future foreign superpower. When in 2050 the list of countries by economy size is going to be 1.China 2. India 3. USA 4. Brazil 5. Russia 6. Mexico, countries like France, Germany and Britain won't be more important than Denmark or Poland on proportion.

  • all the eu means to me, is a lot of fat cats around one big table in europe not giving a shite about anyone but themselves,

Just like the fat cats we have here in Ireland telling lies, (no is still no)

  • God bless the Irish.

  • One thing about us Irish...we're a stubborn lot. Trying to force anything down out throats will only result in us spitting it back in your face. The EU is basically sayin "Vote...but vote yes"! Screw that we said no and if the EU doesn't respect our vote and goes ahead anyway that is not a democracy, it is a Dictatorship!

    Eireann!!

  • Good for Ireland.

Keep your sovereignty, Europeans! Read 1984 and Brave New World, it's happening today. The global elite are behind the EU as well as the NAU.

    Resist the New World Order!

  • Barosso is a lying cunt when at the national forum on europe meeting in dublin castle he tried to claim that the eu saved portugal from facism.

the eu is almost becoming facist its self by trying to build foundations for european nationalism and ignoring democracy wherever it shoes its head out side of brussels

  • Thats it. Enough of this bullshit.

Jo Leinen said exactly: "Ireland is a country that received loads of support from EU", and most of its striving economy should say Thank You, for EU.

I think it is time to vote "Do we really need those Islands in EU" (GB and Ir).

25 is a nice number, with a good kick in the ass east europe can outweight the GB and Ir in all aspects.

  • Thats right do we need ireland in europe?

we only give them money and this there thank to us?

    I say ungratefull ****.

when netherlands voted no it was close really close and I was sad.

but now the only one standing agains it is ireland.

  • YOu talk about the EU like it's a good thing, like fuck it's a good thing, us Brits got our souls sold and we didn't get to vote, where's the fairness in that?

I would rather answer my Queen and Prime minister, not some smarmy Portuguese wanker who knows fuck all about what us Brits are like.

    Fuck you, fuck the EU.

  • hahahahaha sorry mate but gb would butt fuck every other country without even trying... you have been in the eu for what 4/5 years and you think you have more of a right to be there than us? how many people from ur country are living and working here?? we spent 800 years getting our freedom you expect us hand it over just cause a couple of suits think we owe someone something... grow up
