I have to admit that the music is epic, particularly the beginning.... perfect for a theme of kids battling each other for a while before liberating as one group to fight against adult tyranny. Reminds me of Codename: Kids Next Door. :)

Saw this film in 2000, back before the hype, before the cult, before the Hong Kong DVD (which was really the first affordable version available to westerners). When this music kicked in under those big Soviet-style propaganda letters of the opening title, I truly hoped I was in for something epic. I was not disappointed. This movie STILL compels a decade later.

I think this song is in Latin ...It seems quite hard to sing . You need a breath taking load to sound a phase like that in a high pitch . It is like a song set in a scarey music or a funeral from a Catholic church .

Yes, it's in Latin. The text is a Latin hymn which speaks of God's wrath and the fear that will be felt when Judgment Day comes. And yes, it's from a Requiem Mass (which is a funeral mass).

@TheD4wn the book is still about shuya and noriko, but different events take place, and people die in different orders and what not, its basically the same story but its a completely different experience, personally i prefer the novel, but the film is amazing too. BR 2 was horrible though, now im just trying to get my hands on the manga

@troidin i personally liked BR2 too... if you havent, you should watch the directors cut version... it s a lot better( just like in BR1)

Cool thing I ll ready it soon as possible... and a novel is always better, cause you can print your own pictures to the scenes... and you have a lot more details in the novel... Kinji fukasaku made a film like none other... thats what I think xP

@troidin then you should only watch the second part of BR2... there you have some really good scenes... espeacially in the directors cut dvd... the part where nothing happens is the best... cause there you find out what the characters are like ( only in the directors cut you really find out who they are) and the end is a massaker but not a bad one tough...

there are some great scenes even in BR2, and the music of the scenes are great...

PS: watch it in Japan(english sub) language... much better

BR2 was mince. Pure utter americanized garbage with no decent characters, no decent dialogue and most of all no atmosphere. Unlike the first BR where everythings perfect and actually makes you feel as lonely and isolated the children are.

@hungoversundays i agree with some parts of the film... but in the directors cut, there are some good scenes that aren t shown in the uncut version... the film doesnt come near the first one... but thats freakin hard!

also: 2 has also a good message but the storieline is weak on much points.... but I really don t hate it, it was a requiem for kinji fukasaku...

i didnt like the 2nd movie. I thought it wasnt as extraordinary as the first. I only liked the instructor who gar fed down all the pills. he was pretty epic.

Ye Riki kicks ass.. sad he had to die though, well the film is a bit on the 'action movie' type and lost its original 'uniqueness' if you get my drift, its just become like one of the many Hollywood action films...but the soundtrack is still outstanding, i recommend 'Wild Seven Declares War' how about i upload it, Masamichi Amano is still as good as ever. Are you learning Japanese btw?
