These are called chromaticisms. Notes not in the key, but used as passing tones to connect two other diatonic notes. This is often used in blues and jazz. Satriani and Vai do this a lot. Just adds a little color.
well if you must know, I have been playing trumpet for 10 years and don't have to waste time putting a video on youtube of me playing my trumpet, because nobody wants to hear it since it isn't "cool" in mainstream society, and Papa Roach has great music, you will never insult my knowledge on the subject of music again. And I've been playing sax for 10 years and studying theory for 5. And Papa Roach is alright, but I meant as far as doing anything other than basic diatonic chords, they're rather boring.
