Um, does anyone there even consider the impact on the environment and natural habitat ? building thousands of acres of islands that aren't supposed to be there ("reclaiming" them, according to the architect) with sand from the ocean floor must be devastating aquatic habitat! of course, the architecture is amazing, but with all the obvious technology they should focus on minimizing environmental impact. Although.. I doubt the oil mil/billionaires would go for that

i beg to differ. This is equivalent to saying that las vegas is total rubbish, a clear underestimation of the profit margin of billions that the entertainment has brought to the nation. yes, this is purely focused on branding dubai as the next tourism hot-spot, but why shouldn't they when they can? this doesn't mean that they aren't putting in research in other areas, all these technology is spurring architectural and entertainment breakthroughs. i don't see how that's necessarily a bad thing.

2) yes they may be running into issues, but just as the global economy is cyclical, so will they rise again. they are, first and foremost, exporters of oil. smart strategic investments/public policy  this round will help ease the debt and unemployment. despite being in recession, they still amount to 32.3% of the UAE's growth

3) do u think Dubiotech and Dubai internet city might be a good start?
