i actually don't think this ad is that offensive. I think it makes a pretty good point - can we take a minute and compare the lives of purebred dogs, and mutts and pit bulls, etc that are used for fighting or just suffer plain physical abuse and neglect?

I used to be a card-carrying member of PETA, then I found out what they were REALLY all about.
Nobody - especially not the AKC - kills dogs because they're not purebred. If anything, the AKC promotes good dog ownership, so to speak. And they do NOT make "master breeds"; they help explore the natural talent and ability of each breed.

These two employees went to PERFECTLY GOOD shelters and took the animals under the pretense of ALREADY having found them homes!! The animals were perfectly healthy and adoptable - puppies, kittens, adults. They STOLE these animals from the shelters and euthanized them in the back of a van before dumping their bodies behind a grocery store. Sound very 'animal friendly' to you? Those animals had the right to have good homes. To live.
Have you ever tried to adopt an animal from a shelter? You can't just go in and get one the same day. Here, it can take weeks. They check everything. It's easier to get a passport! No one can just go to a shelter and say they have homes for x number of animals, like the drive threw at McDonald's and off they go with a bunch of animals in a van.
Umm... I AM a rescuer. I've been directly involved with the successful placement of almost 72 dogs in the past 2 years. A heaping amount of them were *gasp* pit bulls!!

yes it is understandable that they must put down some of their animals. But out of the 3,000 dogs , cats, and other animals they have taken in how is it that only 12 animals were adopted. Theres something wrong with the numbers there. i am sure there are people out there that are more then happy to adopt some animals. These numbers are actual numbers reported by PETA. Not only that PETA has aimed their cross hairs on dogs that are completely happy, only because these dogs are used for hunting. The difference between purebred dog clubs like the AKC and the KKK is that the clubs promote many pure breeds of dogs rather than a single "pure" strain of humans....rather large difference! Apologies if this has been answered but just Google Peta and 'Ahoskie, NC'. They were two PeTA headquarters employees - not just supporters, and I find it impossible to believe that they were on some renegade mission. It's more likely that their actions were sanctioned by the organization.

He says "...that's why it's important that we continue to dock the tails [and] crop the ears" -- that is, CUTTING off those parts of the puppy's body -- which breeders / pure breed owners absolutely do, and which while of course not equivalent to lynching a person, IS nevertheless bloody, painful mutilation, for indefensible reasons.

Brilliant analogy! Peta is pretty bold in its marketing, but because of its information I went vegan and I have felt so much healthier since. If you're going to adopt an animal into your family, get one from a rescue shelter, not a pet store.
I have been a vegetarian for over 15 years for various reasons. As a regular working class person with responsibilities I humbly try to make the world a better place by treating all living creatures with respect and kindness. I'm sure from PETA's viewpoint being a vegan would be a better lifestyle choice so maybe my opinion doesn't matter to them. I do believe that PETA has done a great deal to expose inhumane treatment of animals around the world, which is very commendable. However I feel
that this commercial and other similar shock tactics does nothing but alienate the organization. Even if this advertisement raises awareness to this issue it was done in a completely offensive and counter productive way. It makes me sad that one of the largest and most visible organization for animal rights stoops to such low levels.

i actually don't think this ad is that offensive. I think it makes a pretty good point - can we take a minute and compare the lives of purebred dogs, and mutts and pit bulls, etc that are used for fighting or just suffer plain physical abuse and neglect?
I think peta's ad with the black chick in the tree was definitely racist and offensive.

Nobody - especially not the AKC - kills dogs because they're not purebred. If anything, the AKC promotes good dog ownership, so to speak. And they do NOT make "master breeds"; they help explore the natural talent and ability of each breed.

I have seen PETA go as far as kidnapping hunting dogs just so they could have them put to sleep because they don't like the fact that they are used for hunting. Everyone has a right to their opinion but trying to make people live by what what you believe is right is just ignorance. You minus well join the Taliban or al qaeda. OK, I agree that putting animals to sleep for stupid reasons-is stupid. But, if you read all my comments here, you will find that I, me, support PeTA because they help animals who are being mistreated. For example the chickens raised in small cages with no room to move, having their beaks cut off so they don't peck each other to death, and then have people throw them against a wall, stomp on them, or boil them alive.

Or the dogs and cats taken off the streets in China, some still have collars on, and forced into cages where their bones are broken as the cages are thrown from trucks. This is what your fur coats or mits or trim is made of if it comes from China-someones pet dog or cat, skinned alive.

Gee, maybe you should find out why PeTA had to step in and get these animals in the first place. PeTA is NOT an animals shelter. If they need to step in, it's because there is something terribly wrong going on. They can't just go to a inhumane shelter (for example) pick up all the animals and find them new homes that afternoon! When rescued, these animals are extremely sick!

These two employees went to PERFECTLY GOOD shelters and took the animals under the pretense of ALREADY having found them homes!! The animals were perfectly healthy and adoptable - puppies, kittens, adults. They STOLE these animals from the shelters and euthanized them in the back of a van before dumping their bodies behind a grocery store. Sound very 'animal friendly' to you? Those animals had the right to have good homes. To live.

Have you ever tried to adopt an animal from a shelter? You can't just go in and get one the same day. Here, it can take weeks. They check everything. It's easier to get a passport! No one can just go to a shelter and say they have homes for x number of animals, like the drive threw at McDonald's and off they go with a bunch of animals in a van.

Umm... I AM a rescuer. I've been directly involved with the successful placement of almost 72 dogs in the past 2 years. A heaping amount of them were *gasp* pit bulls!!
Read the news articles. They will tell you why the shelter released the animals. You're obviously not willing to listen to anything that differs from your own warped view here.

Exactly. Their ultimate goal is 'total animal liberation'. Regarding pets - they want to spay/neuter EVERY companion animal in existence to prevent any new domestic animals from being bred.
Too many people see a sticker or tee shirt and begin blindly supporting PeTA without doing any research. I myself supported PeTA for a number of years before someone informed me of what I didn't know.
My time is better spent now volunteering at rescues and speaking out against BSL.

yes it is understandable that they must put down some of their animals. But out of the 3,000 dogs , cats, and other animals they have taken in how is it that only 12 animals were adopted. Theres something wrong with the numbers there. i am sure there are people out there that are more then happy to adopt some animals. Not only that as a Avid hunter and fisher man, I have witness numerous attempts by PETA to confiscate animals that are used to hunt.

Typical cheap tactics by PETA. The difference between purebred dog clubs like the AKC and the KKK is that the clubs promote many pure breeds of dogs rather than a single "pure" strain of humans....rather large difference! The various breed fanciers exist cohesively with appreciation for the other breeds rather than contempt and wanting to annihilate them like the KKK. Most dog fanciers are dog lovers regardless of whether they're purebred. Too bad folks fall for PETA's ploys.

PETA rarely represents my views, but I'm amazed (because I forget) at the knee jerk backlash of those who's entire life is wrapped up in fear of change.

For whatever reason, though I clicked directly on the Reply link below specific comments I wanted to specifically respond to, all of my such comments ended up at the top of the whole comments list right under the video, so you can't tell what I'm responding to, which is really annoying. So I'll just repeat one thing I said in many comments previously addressed to specific people who repeatedly wrote PETA is a TERRORIST organization that conducts BOMBINGS. Those are utterly untrue statements.

I personally don't think they are comparing dog breeding to racism, in the conventional sense. They are talking about changing the way the animal was born, just to please the owners-cropping the ears and tails, which is usually done without any pain relief and while the animal is awake. Now, what did the klan do to people they thought needed to change? Ask them politely to move?

Comparing a pure breed dog owner with a Klansman is ridiculous. This implies that pure breed dog owners lynch and torment mix breed dogs. They could of accomplished a lot more with a "adopt a mixed breed dog from your local shelter" instead of this crap they think is so clever. True, pure breed dog owners don't "lynch and torment" MIX breed dogs. BUT note what the guy running the meeting is saying at the beginning of the ad! He says "...that's why it's important that we continue to dock the tails [and] crop the ears" -- that is, CUTTING off those parts of the puppy's body -- which breeders / pure breed owners absolutely do, and which while of course not equivalent to lynching a person, IS nevertheless bloody, painful mutilation, for indefensible reasons.

Brilliant analogy! Peta is pretty bold in its marketing, but because of its information I went vegan and I have felt so much healthier since. If you're going to adopt an animal into your family, get one from a rescue shelter, not a pet store.

I have been a vegetarian for over 15 years for various reasons. As a regular working class person with responsibilities I humbly try to make the world a better place by treating all living creatures with respect and kindness. I'm sure from PETA's viewpoint being a vegan would be a better lifestyle choice so maybe my opinion doesn't matter to them. I do believe that PETA has done a great deal to expose inhumane treatment of animals around the world, which is very commendable. However I feel

Even if this advertisement raises awareness to this issue it was done in a completely offensive and counter productive way. It makes me sad that one of the largest and most visible organization for animal rights stoops to such low levels.

In a world where people thrive on violence, I was hoping that people would watch this video and say, "Hey. Maybe chopping the tails and clipping the ears of dogs is a little like trying to creat a perfect world, much like KKK or Hitler. Maybe this is wrong, just like them..". And you are free to eat what you want, but food grown organically and in less abusive conditions tends to taste better and be better for you including chicken, beef, pork, etc. etc. Have you ever eaten grass feed beef? Beef grown as nature wanted it to be? It is a totally different product. I don't eat it myself but my husband loves it!

Clemtoe, I generally think PeTA is crazy, and I don't give them any money or support, but there have been cases where they have successfully brought awareness to animal abuse so I can't really bash them all together. The ASPCA, or the National Humane Society do a much better job with regards to animal welfare. PeTA is for extremists, and I think Ads like this one will only hurt PeTA. The other two Ads in the series are WORSE! Give them enough rope and PeTA will hang itself.

In that video, Penn and Teller repeatedly refer to OTHER groups/orgs as "PETA" who aren't -- those people they interview protesting the animal shelter for killing animals? Not PETA; the narrator even says what the name of THEIR group actually IS. PETA, as it happens, SUPPORTS painless euthanasia of unadoptable animals.
