Broz, any tips on increasing grip strength to be able to use a double overhand grip with such a big weight? Or, any tips on how to get used to the hook grip?
My thumbs have been hating me for the past two weeks because I've been using the hook grip.
@uggy12345 Keep doing the hook grip and it will feel better with time. You can not get accustomed to something in only 2 weeks. Come back in a few months.
I've been lifting for one year now, and I currently have a 1RM of 375ls in the deadlift
I really want to increase my lifts, mostly deadlift because I find that the most important for strength, , so I want to start cycle training, starting at say 200lbs for deadlift and increasing it every workout, until i reach a new max, and start over. and I am going to be doing this 3x a week.
what are your thoughts on it? I would love any output you have because you seem very experienced
@BROZKNOWS I am from Canada but when he makes it to the Olympics, I will be cheering for him!!! F*ck the Muslim guy from Iran praying for "his god given strength".
Interesting... do you usually pull with your hands that wide? I don't train any olympic lifts yet, but I'm guessing that perhaps pulling with a wider grip like that has some carry-over to oly lifts. Is this correct?
we train for the O-lifts, so all "deadlifts" or heavy pulls that turn into deadlifts are of course being done with the same foot and grip position that we do cleans and snatches with. We are not interested in a maximum deadlift because it has no carry over for the lifts. Occasionally (about 2x/yr if that) we go to 90-95% to get an idea if the pull is close to max bs. Its usually within 10-15kg.
In that one interview I saw, you said you train just the 6 lifts - so when/how often do you work these pulls in, even at lighter percentages?
I am starting to train these lifts exclusively (but just recreationally, as I'm 30) but if there's a way I could still be allowed to deadlift - the only other exercise I'd want to do - I'm quite interested in finding a way to fit that in every once in a while.
You are doing amazing work with these young kids. I wish I had half their strength at that age!
usually deads are added if there is an injury we are training around or an obvious weakness in the pull. It varies depending on the athlete. If you have been doing deads for awhile, I would not bother doing them when training the lifts. There is SO MUCH to learn in just the 2 lifts, that will take most of your energy and time. If you are doing it for recreation and fun then toss them in whenever you want and do the lifts the other days, or do them very last in the session.
Where is the eccentric part of the lift?
