The Ancient Greeks certainly did not believe in God as I know Him, but both came to the conclusion that their was an original "creator of the forms" (P) or "unmoved mover" (A). Pretty much anybody who has asked questions about the meaning of life has based their research on the work of these two. Until recently, all philosophy pointed toward the existence of God.

They are probably all over this rumor, though it might be hard to get it printed for the reason that they do not have enough proof and wish not to have their paper risking damaging lawsuits.

I can't see how, taking into account the high value such a story would bring the newspaper, it could be explained in any other manner.
