  • I don't get why he was allowed to get away with this.

I understand fooball is a rough sport, not a years goes by without someone injured, but when a player is constantly injuring people compared to others, than there's something wrong there.

  • @MIKECNW back then it was clean, so all arguements were invalid

  • thats how they really played football back then instead of how that pussy goodell lets them play nowadays. fuck goodell rot in hell

  • what happened to this guy. I heard he died at a mental institution.

  • Cheap shots? No such thing. If they don't want to get hit, don't play. Problem solved.

  • Greatest cheap shot artist of all. He'd have been a hockey player named Scott Stevens today. (Shoulder blasts to the face in a time when nobody wore facemasks.)

  • GO 49ERS!

  • aha thats awesome "hit me i'll fake it out we can split it $250 each" hard-hitter,cool dude

  • wheres brian dawkins on the list?!

  • what about chuck bednarik..

  • hardy brown sucks fag I want to treabags him

  • He broke noses and jaws at practice...the 49's sometimes used Hardy as a blocking back on pass plays....one game he KO'd both DE on consecutive plays..using his shoulder...

  • Some think that Brown was the hardest hitter of all time...

  • damn this guy is dirty love dat

  • You get hit by a car and think Hardy Brown hit you? Shiiittttt he should be #1

  • little know fact, he died in a mental institution in 1991 according to wikipedia

  • @qjeez shut up, thats real football pussy.. you must be 1 of the girls who wanted players to fined for making a big hit

  • @qjeez LMAO... Spoken like a true person whos never played a game past highschool... If you even made the team.

  • @TheeALYX Yes! Thats my imitation of the nfl commish and his new ridiculous rules on big hits so congrats to you for halfway seeing the sarcasm in my comments.

  • he fits the tits MOST FEARED hitter perfect hahahah good add to the list

  • That Waterfield story was hilarious

  • Tough player.Brown was a orphan.Great hitter.Yes majik2hanz most of these hits are illegal because of Roger Goodell.NFL is ruined today.

  • Best way to find a good football player is someone with this background or someone given a girly type first name that naturally led to fighting a la "Boy named Sue". Hardy Brown simply integrated close contact fighting techniques into his tackling process. I believe most of these are "illegal" under current NFL rules.

  • What people don't understand about football, is that the running back or ball carrier has a disadvantage because he's carrying or catchin the ball. A Defenseive back or safety has the edge. House rules if you will. What you have to teach in the game is anger management. No pity on the little 180 pound db, run over him, through him, step on him etc. And my second rule, if a guy cheap shots a guy, WE are getting him out of there, regardless of the score or outcome. 1950's bs.

  • wow.

  • inspiration for the Waterboy

  • My grandfather saw him knock a guy 50 pounds heavier and three inches taller out cold in 1951.

  • @kodiakfred140 That's awesome.

  • i read somewhere he hit a guy so hard one of his eyes popped out of its socket

  • @SeclusiveExil3 that cant be true

  • 2:16 is the best part

  • Get out the Meat Wagon!

  • Well duh he broke jaws, they didn't have any facemasks.

  • @1997soxfan He was breaking jaws well after facemasks were introduced. You could take a modern player and teach him Brown's technique with guaranteed results provided the aim point is dead on.

  • The way things are going in the NFL right now leading with the shoulder will be banned next.

  • ...who once picked up Fred Biletnikoff in a playoff game with one hand between his legs and the other over his shoulder and slammed him to the turf head first right after the ball was snapped?

If Tatum (or Blount) would have played in that era they would have been taking players off the field in body bags.

  • 21 knockouts in 12 games when they played without facemasks. I don't think that made him more fearsome than other players, although they'd have to be the ones to answer that. It would seem the game itself was just like that. But even if it were so, how could the players in Tatum's era, when the players obviously hit so much harder by driving their head THROUGH the ball-carrier or receiver, be afraid of a guy who only hit with his shoulder?

  • @fistofate Colts Hall Of Famer Art Donovan described Browns' approach as "An intent to maim". The guy was a WW2 USMC combat vet who quite simply did not care a bit as to the health of anyone, not even his own teammates. There are a few great articles around that describe the fear opponents had of this man. One QB mentioned his back flat out telling him not to throw in Browns area. The QB forgot during the game and the back was hospitalized as a result

  • @fistofate

Don't you think Brown would have hit like that too, if he had the sort of helmet? The only real difference is that at 180# he would have been moved to safety since that's way too small to be a linebacker in the 70s or later.

  • haha 3:20 great reputation

  • Not... This is a joke. He was nothing compared to Tatum.

  • @fistofate 21 knockouts in 12 games in one season. Peeled a guy's nose off with a hit. Took out a starting back field before halftime during a game. Knocked out Kyle Rote and Frank Gifford on successive plays. Ended careers of multiple players. Described by reporters of the time as a "killing machine". So hated that not a single former NFL player went to his funeral. Was so feared that Backs asked Quarterbacks to be careful about throwing the ball in his area.

  • i doubt he can hit harder than John Lynch he will knock out any 1

  • he would destroy people bcuz he hit players in the face. they wore no facemasks and if they did they were like single bars

  • Comment removed

  • He hits just like Night Train

  • My great grandpa told me about him so i looked this up and damn he kills lol

  • damn that one play where he knocks out the guy and picks it off was nuts

  • ahaha...that 500$ reward kills me...

  • hardy "cold shoulder" brown !! wow what a player for only wieghing a buck 80

  • 1st guy "hardy brown? Who's HE?" what the hell do you mean "whos he?" who DOESNT know hardy brown?

  • His story is in Twelve Mighty Orphans by Jim Dent

  • That's how you tackle without hurting your own head. The other guy gets a concussion---worst case, you get a sore shoulder.

  • I've never heard of this guy until now. But If Dick LeBeau says he was dangerous that's all I need to hear.

  • i already tackle like him i pick u up and slam ur ass!

  • OW! I hope i tacke like him one day.
