  • whoa this is ironic since I love Mass Effect now

  • The combat system takes 5 hours to learn? What? Maybe it's because I play on PC, but the only problem I had is that I thought you could reload but instead that key was mapped to throwing grenades. Other than that - no problems.

As for framerate drops... that's why you don't play on consoles :)

But I agree, the game was quite enjoyable to me.

  • @LarisaFrolova Ha. I did the same thing.

  • 0:36 it's the conduit

  • music in the back groung is mezmorizing lol

  • If it took this fucker 5 hours to get used to the combat, he should go play sims or something.

  • Great game but a lot of technical issues? Yea... sounds like typical BioWare.

  • hihÌ_âñY_gÚYs_wÃNt_tØ_chåt_wíth_mé

  • @SesauaMazieaj811 hey wut's up

  • dumb review, who cares if there is a pause in the action.. that's the dumbest thing to complain about

I just got the game and love it... I wish there had been more common sense reviews out there so I could have found out about this game earlier

  • 4:43 Emotion, from an elcor? Come on IGN.

  • where it said it can only use one hot key... thats why the PC verson is the best as you can have 6 which is more than enough

  • Mass Effect 1 still looks good in my opinion.

  • @vm2707

We've gotten to the point where I'm not sure if the games from this year and a few years before will ever look bad.

Even games from 2001 or 2002 can still look ok.

  • damn this game looks like shit compared to mass efect 2

  • @MrGeorge4money play it its fuckin awesome and epic

  • They make it sound like te framerate is horrible. It's really not a big issue. Like the first hour is like ehh this game is a little laggy but u don't even notice it after that. Mass effect 1 and2 are the best way to spend fifty bucks. I've played both for around 300 hours

  • @Gowatch3kb

If someone really can't handle it, they should check out the PC version.

  • I checked...Joker is Seth Green.

  • Say, my Mass Effect kinda lags sometimes, you know those awkward movements when you move Shepard around. Is this normal or my disk may have a scratch or something?

  • @Perroramirez nahh thats completely normal, everyone gets it. all the written reviews have said it and my version has the same problem

  • liked it , not as long as i would want but ill try 2 if its better

  • Hm... that's strange, he said the main story was 30 hours long, yet, totally, I only spent 10-12 hours in the main story. After which I explored the whole galaxy. After that, there wasn't really that much to do. But, replaying is fun so far, so that's good, :P.

  • *Yawn* Xbox 360 fails. Get a PC if you want to play this. Then you won't have to work around that clunky/shitty controller for the 360, it's a lot more fun playing with a mouse and keyboard anyway, and more strategic.

  • thumbs up fer blue tited ailens!!!

  • iv got mass effect 1 n 2 n i still think it soooooooo boring, i brought mass effect 2 a few weeks ago n i just lost interest couldnt be ask 2 play it. i dont knw why i hate the game but i just find it sooo boring...

  • And dont forget:

    PChas MULTIPLE shortcut keys :)

    Thats the most useful thing^^

  • stupid to start with the negative things in the review

  • I think that ME1 is better on PC while ME2 is pretty much the same for both.

For ME1 PC the elevators are shorter (for me at least), the inventory is easier to manage, multiple hotkeys and the ability to give orders specifically to your squad i.e. Garrus takes a defensive stance while Wrex gets directed to go to a spot closer to the enemy.

ME2 is almost 1:1 on the 360 and PC.

  • @TheBiz182 Actually, the interface for both the pc and 360 version are different so that its easyer for a mouse on the pc, and easyer for a controler on the 360.

  • @Flunkorg Oh hey! Another pretentious douchebag saying that PC is the only good gaming platform.

  • @DecepticorePrime What the fuck are you talking about? I'm just saying the game has an equally good pc port. Do you have a problem with that?

  • Ah you see, now HERE's a good review, IGN. Good job.

  • @maggot510 trust me when i say you want to get ME2, you'll not want to come off it.

  • iv been playing ME1 on my xbox and i dont get any of these bugs (maybe they got fixed with patches?), i only get the texture bumping bug which isn't a big deal compared to how amazing this game is. This is definitely a most play for any xbox owner.

  • @iorost

Buy the first, then go for the second. The second allows you to import savegames to continue your character so if you ever want to start a new character, you'll still have the first one lying about.

Plus, ME1 is cheap now. Use the time to beat it and play it several times with different characters while ME2 drops in price.

  • I never experienced any of the "techinical issues" that the reviewer speaks of

  • I just beat it yesterday. Oh man, that was one of the most satisfying game endings in recent memory. Without spoiling anything, there was this big thingy, and some serious shit went down. 18 hours on normal.

I didn't do two of the loyalty missions though (Tali and Jacob, just got lazy) and everyone but Miranda and Samara died! I figured only Jacob and Tali would die, but they killed all but two of my people. Oh well.

Anyways, ME3 cannot come soon enough!

  • @tipoomaster Jacob's one is awesome.

  • hey guys is this game any good cuz im thinking of buying it on demmand on xbox live and beat it so i can get mass effect 2

  • you should ME1 is bad ass & i cant wait to get ME2

  • Is Mass Effect 2 still fun if u didnt preorder it and get the cool gun and armor?

  • Hell YES! I loved it so much that I'm now playing the first one just to replay ME2 to see how the story unfolds the next time around.

  • :O so how much better is ME2 than Mass Effect one? and do u know exactly how good the special armor and guns are if u preorder ME2?

  • @theneenjah Hey dude should i pick up Modern Warfare 2, Mass Effect 2, or SAW? Which game has better graphics more hours of gameplay, and the funnest to play? Thanks in advance.

  • Mass effect 2 is an Rpg so it has more hours of gameplay. MW2 has less graphics but great online. I'm a PC gamer so it may have a mod community in ME2 then xbox 360.

  • @Benmen776 ME1 and 2 are amazing games i would play them instead of mw2 any day and I do

  • @anomaluigi Hey dude should i pick up Modern Warfare 2, Mass Effect 2, or SAW? Which game has better graphics more hours of gameplay, and the funnest to play? Thanks in advance.

  • MW2 for multiplayer and more action, single isn't long enough. Mass effect for single and mor ein depth. Saw is shit.

  • I have both MW2 and ME2, never played SAW, and I have to say that playing ME 1 and 2 has been the most fun I have had playing video games in a long time. The story is so engrossing and the universe of ME rivals that of any Star Wars movie--and that usually isn't my style. The combat in ME2 is more tactical and satisfying than MW2 imo. Of course you'll only be playing against the cpu, so it really doesn't have that competitive element. MW2 has addicting gameplay, but ME2 is simply an awesome exp

  • Unbelievably fun

  • me 2 or ff 13?

  • @m4inev3nt911

    Neither, get Bioshock 2.

  • Bioshock 2 has NOTHING on ME2

  • ff 13 comes out in march. buy me2 and save up for 2 months.

i'm going to play bioshock 2 and see if it's better than me2. i doubt it, but we'll see.

  • I'm not to big on rpgs, but this game looks amazing. In fact, the only rpg game I've played is Pokemon :p I'm really interested in this game, so should I pick it up? I just don't want to be disappointed on a game just because it's not my "play style" - Please respond if you have this game. Thanks.

  • im not really a big rpg fan, however i make the exception with mass effect. my advise is get number one first, load it up and enjoy the magic

  • what is your fave RPG. i like oblvion. you are just set in the world with a sword and a spell and are left to wrek havoc how you see fit. KTOR is highly linear. multible playthrous are painfull, Oblvion is just to big to be bord by mutaple runs.

  • well, id have to say mass effect 1 and 2.. though i did enjoy dragon age on the 360.. no where near as good as the pc version, but still a great game

  • I'm not an rpg fan either. Tried Fallout 3, but didn't like it. This game starts off a bit slow, but now I'm completely engrossed with the story. The universe is so believable and the environments are breathtaking. I suggest you play this one first b4 going to ME2. If you like this one, ME2 is gonna make your head explode.

  • @deeroclafam mass effect 1 is awesome. Much better than 2.

  • Bioware is good, I absolutely loved Jade Empire and Knights. BTW please anybody let me know if they are planning on making a Jade Empire II.

  • It's simply the best series of all time.

  • me2 was good, but not the best game I've played. combat definitely improved. rpg elements were removed though, idk why they think u have to sacrifice rpg to get a good combat system...doesnt make sense. Also the strongest points of the game were the beginning and the end...the middle just seemed so hollow without any story-development going on.

  • ME2 is much better than Mass Effect 1. Mass Effect 1 drives me nuts with the stupid elevators, cumbersome combat system, annoying control of the vehicle, boring side missions, etc

  • @TRCxt yes it is better, but i just hated how they removed the rpg elements (like character customization for the whole team). Also, the collector's threat seems so small compared to saren and sovereign. The Collectors only felt threatening at the end and in the beginning. Saren was more involved in me1, than the collectors were in me2. ME3 should have the best parts of both games, combat AND rpg XD

  • thats one fugly shepard xD

  • theres no bugs for me

  • you know the only thing i really didnt like about the game was the mako because it was so akward to drive and i hated killing enimys with it because at one point i could basically get out of the mako take out my guns and kill the enimy faster than i could if i was using the mako

  • honestly i love this game because it's diffrent every time but i'm worried about mass effect 2 since i havent played it yet so i have my hopes up for the 2nd game but i'm not saying it's amazing until i play it

  • If you loved the first, I guarantee you will love the second. Make sure you import your save file. Good news, there's no Mako in #2 - every mission is on foot. They've changed a lot of things, streamlined the combat, improved class abilities, and completely redone the inventory system. But the roleplaying and the story are the same, if not better. Each character will get their moment. And if you liked Joker in the first, you're in for some awesome surprises. He gets some epic moments.

  • 2 is much better than 1!!

  • no shit serlock

  • It's been a while since I played Mass Effect, but I know for sure that Mass Effect 2 is WAAY better. imo

  • Wow IGN...you make this game sound horrible...This game is amazing. The start is slow but it picks up...the second one is even more amazing.

  • @NyMets1854 actually this game is fantastic, the reviewer makes it sound terrible.

Five hours to figure out the combat system? Maybe he has a learning disability or this is the first videogame he has ever played.

  • xD yeh your right

  • Never played ME1, but ME2 is definately one of the best RPG type games I've played, second only to Fallout 3.

Its one of the few games where I don't want to skip the conversation scenes. Following the story is better than the actual gameplay, and the gameplay is fantastic.

If you haven't yet bought this game, I'll come and find you and cut you up with my Mass Effect 2 disc....

  • Fallout 3 is boring... most of the time you do nothing but walking around....boring

  • I loved Fallout 3. It's got that dark and unforgiving atmosphere. But if you think that most of the time all you do is walk around then I suggest you try following the storyline. The times where you are walking around are when you're trying to either do a mission or just exploring for fun.

You've got to take the game for what it is, its about exploring to see how life changed after the fallout.

You wasted your time buying Fallout 3 if you thought it would be like Gear of War or something.

  • as much as i never had fallout 3, i played it. and i can say it was a very good game and the idea of the story is what drew me in. if some1 doesntl like "walking around", go get modern warfare 2 and leave rpg gamers alone

  • @VermilionUK If someone doesn't like exploring in Fallout 3, then there's nothing else to like. The storyline is bland with unforgivable story gaps and unexplained facts, which build up the more you go through it. The setting just doesn't make sense, and you understand this after you've played the first two games.

  • in the second one does it have all the stats of planets you goto? like the history and use of the planets and all the atmosphere, themp, rotation and orbit stats

  • Driving in the Mako and EXPLORING is what it was all about... but they took out all of those things in Mass Effect 2. Fuck you Bioware!!!! They took out all the heart and soul of this game :(

  • @thi711 Are you joking? The mako exploration was tedious and silly. The planets were virtually featureless and the quests on them used like three environments (underground lab, prefab building, mine) with different furniture.

  • The game is ranked much higher on reviewing web sites than the first one, so obviously they did a great job, so fuck you.

  • I dunno I thought driving through the same retextured randomly generated terrain got kind of old pretty quick.

  • Yes damn those bastards at bioware for removing planet exploration. I mean, the best part of Mass Effect was DEFINITLY driving around the same basic map, cleverly disguised as a tottally unique planet. I never had more fun than driving around in the mako and dying because my back tire happened to touch a pool of lava which of course meant I got to start from the VERY beggining of the planet because I didn't save or hit a check point.

  • I find the driving the most boring part of Mass Effect 1; the controls are terrible, the missions boring, the distances to travel too long and oh my God...if you screw up you can often do the whole boring mission again, terrible....sigh

  • does it have online?

  • Mass effect1 is awesome no doubt. But 2 is better in every way. Every single problem u can imagine was addressed and made better. Mass effect 1 felt ''unpolished''.. like it lacked pizaz or detail. i found myself just walking around and listening to NPC's conversations in Omega (mass effect 2 planet) cause it was so well done.

  • Depends on what you're after. I liked the rpg elements and characters of the 1st. The new game is too simple, lacks almost any rpg elements and the presentation seems worse to me for too many reasons to post. The 1st game was more of a great overall experience whereas this one just seems like a more generic shooter with story and some rpg elements in it. Just my opinion.

  • Yeah it is somewhat more simplistic in terms on the loots system, and maybe conversation aspects. But The Detail added to the explorations, side quests, just about any kind of customization. i loved the 1st mass effect, but my main problem was the planets to explore, exploring them was BORING. In ME2 they make them their own self contained quests.

  • Looks awesome.

  • i just beat it for the first time FREAKEN EPIC

  • at first 1 hour playing mass effect, i find it's kinda boring but i forced myself to play it because of its high rating and it's started become more interesting...

  • @slifergold

Its starts out a little slow but dont worry, it gets really awesome. Im on my 5th playthrough.

  • personally, i liked the first mass effect better than the 2nd one. i don't know why either, just had so many good memories playing it and it was the first xbox 360 game i have played. *sigh*

  • i never got any of those bug issues

  • thank u TRCxt someone cant even ask a simple question any more with people giving u thumbs down

  • Comment removed

  • Why is someone giving you a thumbs down when you ask just a simple question? People can be such losers...sigh

  • If you didn't like the first one don't buy the second one ;]

  • good job ruining the story dickhead

  • EVERY website and magazine has rated this very highly so piss off with all that "ign are biased" bullshit

  • Thanks for the spoilers you idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • Lol, you guys are pathetic, only because you dont know how to play the game, doesnt make it a "Massive shit", but it does make you a "massive faggot"

  • It's amazing you really should try it yourself

  • how do you train wepons?

  • 0:22. What the fuck is that thing? some sort of an anlien?

  • lol

  • @ZauXz Thats a Shepardus Omgtakeitawayus!

Best treatment; Kill it with fire!

  • game looks great, but the review doesn't seem professional whatsoever. if you can get past that, the review says some helpful things. the voice doesn't really carry. The guy stutters, and doesn't really pull me in.

  • @zume Awesome, a review of a review.

  • mass effect 2 is gunna kick asssssss

  • also another gripe with the game is the mako traveling and exploration. When I see a planet with huge mountains....I'll often grunt in dismay. They should just bring in a small 3-man airship. I wanted the exploration to be like FF exploration with the airships.

  • great review. But i have got to point it out, that is the ugliest shepard I've ever seen....ever (the male one, female one was alright). I wonder how he got it on with ashley or liara with that face.

  • i loved this game

and made by a canadian company

    i iz honored :D

  • I rented this game I didn't think it was that good, all the side quests are the same and for me the side quests is what I like most about Rpgs. I really wish side quests would go back to what it was like for Bg2. Where one or more dungeons would be devoted to one side quest. Usually with a giant dragon with great loot on it.

  • @MESHASMGUD So you don't like side quests that are repetitive, but... You make a reference to repetitive side quests as what you like.

    I'm confused. ._.

  • Huh? have you ever played BG2? In the second act theres multitudes of quests that are not the same at all, but then again it's been a while ive played it. I just remember the shadow wolf temple and the red dragon that drops that sweet pally sword.

  • What I'm saying is that you like side quests, but not repetitive ones, but then you said that they usually have a giant dragon with great loot on it.

    Which sounds repetitive. ._.

  • Ah BG2 one of the greatest games of all time. :)

  • @llorhan I replayed like 10 times as the same class lol

  • Done that. I think i play it at least twice through each year can't help it.

  • getting this in steam for 3 EURO AWSOME (PC)

  • Comment removed

  • jeah i bought it two :D

  • Great Review, I Think You're Totally Right About Everything You've Said! When I First Played Mass Effect It Took Me HOURS To Find Out How To Work It. This Really Is An Amazing Game When You Get The Hang Of It. I Agree With The Bad Points You've Mentioned Aswell.

  • From PC point of view this game was a huge disappointment. From looting enemies that you kill a mile away, to lack of video settings leading to headaches w. poor graphics. The vehicle you ride is the most awkward unrealistic part of the game, the projectiles fired @ you in the vehicle is a big joke, move left or right to dodge. The dialog feels like its been dumbed down for a 8 year old, but this game is rated R18. I can't expect much from a Xbox port game trying to pass by as RPG.

  • Yea the writing seemed to have been dumbed down it was rather annoying. The graphics where quite poor the control sceme was clunky but i assure the game had an oustanding quailty to it when all our chocies reflect what happens you think o'shit i shouldnt have done that or i ve done the right thing the whole scheme is an epic space oprea

  • arousing, you are quite the retard.

  • Wow looks really great, I will get it for Christmas and I hope it's as good as they all say :)

  • just completed it finally after a week of getting it loved it cant wait for mass effect 2 and now to play as male Shepard! for more epicness

  • one of the best rpgs I've ever played!

  • playing it on the pc was so much more fun than on the xbox, pc version was tight

  • i treaded this game in becuase the side quest sucks. but the game was still pretty good. i hope mass effect 2 has better side quests

  • ME2 Is just gonna be too good, TOO good.

  • The combat isn't hard to get into, and the only problem I had is the Mako doesn't feel right to me. I don't experience any of those problems, except for probably the texture. I don't know; I haven't played in a while.

  • I don't play this in HD, and its still an incredible looking game.

  • Nice job, nice video, Thank you! Check out our Official Liara T'Soni Channel

And LiaraTsoni. Com for the Mass Effect 2 videos (coming soon).

  • The guy who did this contradicted himself a million times, and overcritisized like my Math teacher. Mass Effect is an amazing game.

  • Anyone reply get this or Red Facton Guerrila.ty.

  • If your an online buff get Red Faction. But if you put story before combat defiantly get Mass Effect. I've put loads more hours in ME than in RF.

  • MassEffect, unless you have bad taste in games

  • awesome game

  • It is a very underrated game, although it got really good scores. But this guy whos doin the review, you get the feeling he wants to subtely over-criticize it all the time! He says the combat system is bad and that you need 5 HOURS to get into it and understand it!? ..if some1 needs 5 hours to understand the combat system in this game, hes a mongoloid, took me 15 minutes or less! And the combat system is bloody brilliant, the best compromise of rpg/fps ive seen since deus ex.

  • That's fun... I never had ANY of those technical problems :P

  • i personally prefer the PS3 system (mostly because its not loud and doesn't burn out in less than 2 years). but its games are S H I T compared to the X-box... thats why i use my PC, and a great PC is the best gaming platform, best graphics, widest selection of games, mouse and keyboard and gamepad support, free internet, and you don't even have to buy your games. Only down side is that i had to wait an extra year to play mass effect, worth it in my opinion.

  • Not every Xbox does burn out in just 2 years, my first Xbox 360 survived 4 years but then my brother through it down the stairs. I have a Ps3 and a Wii too, but I still prefer the Xbox 360, espacially the elite.

  • Question! Someone help! Is anyone eles Mass Effect kinda fuzzy looking, mines not that clear kinda looks smokey! I've tried it on various xboxs and HDTV's and its the same, is anyone eles like that?

  • its supposed to be like that. Its a film grain effect.

In the computer version you can turn it off. it looks better with teh grain, you don't see the 2x/4x anti-aliasing as much.

and most of the bugs with texture were fixed in the PC version. If you have the option go with the PC version i didn't ahve a single lag issue with my 8800 GTS, but thats understandable... i mean that card although old is like 6 times better than the one that in the x-box.

  • Ah I see nice one!!!

  • Proof please

  • the x-box is using the ATI 'Xenos' graphics chip my comp is using the Nvidia '8800 GT' (512mb varient). Specs: GPU. xbox: 500 MHz GPU on 65 nm process mine: 600 MHz GPU on 65 nm process Memory (Cache): x-box: 10mb cache at 500Mhz mine: 512mb at 1800Mhz x-box: 232 million transistors mine: 754 million transistors and thats just a couple of the comparisons... The 8800 GT is a much better card, and when in a good PC it is not even comparably better.
  • Ati Radeon HD 4800--- :) runs beauitfully

  • nope mine runs pretty smooth. sorry man

  • its an affect that's been put over the game. if you pause and go into options you can turn it off :)

i personally like it, but its a matter of opinion :)

  • The only bad thing about this game is that ALL the weapons look the same and you can't edit your characters body.

  • Is this game played best on 360 or pc, like qua controls or your own experience.

  • Its a lot easyer on pc.

  • how come?

  • Its a lot easyer because you can make hotkeys, navigate the menus better all sorts of stuffs, including graphics.

  • can you land on most of the planets you see? it don't let me land on quite a few

  • well that's my opinion

the game play in fallout 3 (PC version) is so superior and the world and quests are much more engaging and fun with so many different ways to complete the same quest with numerous results that when I moved onto "mass effect" I couldn't help but compare it to fallout and was left wanting.

I did enjoy masseffect combat system but the lack of variety in weapons and armor took away from that as well.

PC version has so many user made addons that the game just goes on forever

  • I hope mass effect 2 is much improved as I liked mass effect but if it's not going to be vastly improved I don't see reason to by mass effect 2

  • if u cant notice theres hundreds of weapons and armors and hundreds of upgrades for them ur stupid and user made addons arent really the game

  • look at the numbers fallout 3 destroyed mass effect and the only real way to play either of them is on PC
