One of my best friends broke a puck in a High School too. The puck was brittle and he hit the post with it, and it split in half. That same guy went on to play OHA Jr. A Hockey for the Sudbury Wolves with a lot of guys who made it to the NHL.

I broke a hockey puck once with a slapshot off the crossbar. It was outdoors about -10 Celcius in 1998. Did it with a Koho multilam maple stick, brand name Blackfibre. Bought two Koho Blackfibre sticks Made in Finland for $10 (2 for 1)in about 1990 still have one as a momento the other was stolen. That Koho stick is no longer useful though.
