our band is great. we won peach state last year and everything.. the sad thing tho, we get no recognition. when the football team loses a game, the next day on announcements, they get wished better luck next time, but they are still congratulated on effort. we could win best band in the world and still get no response from our skool... or anyone else for that matter. but its ok, because we no we are amazing. :D

Take your team of football players and have them all run at the same speed in perfect unison across a field and all throw a football at the same time making it go the same distance and height as each other. That would be the football equivalent of marching band. Do that, and then you can say band is "easy"
Where I come from, whenever our team wins the football team and the marching band dances together on the feild. It's amazing, the football team even got mad at us because we had to leave early for homecoming and we didn't dance with them XD
Marching band, for me, is like one of the best experiences. You bond together and make friends with everyone because everyone has something in common with you. It is amazing. The 2011 season will be my last year in high school marching band. I am completely sad about this. Hopefully I will be able to continue it in college.

Do you guys learn rhythms, march while playing in tune, keeping your knees in a 90 degree angle, memorize music which isn't just one piece! it can be up to 50 b/c in shows you learn new moves/music. We did a tournament against 42 bands and got second place which was announced the next morning at our high school during my chemistry class and a few football players gave us shit for not getting first, but the way I see it, we beat more bands THAT ONE NIGHT (keep in mind we won several other tournaments that year as well) than our piece of shit team did the past five years. :-)

All while being sought out, on average, by 3 to six 300lb men, and also have 1,000s of screaming fans in your ear, and in some situations 100,000 screaming fans while you're trying to synchronize 11 people to execute a single play as a unit.
and football players are one of the schools pride and joy hell their at the top of the list, we just need to stop argueing and learn to co exist, both are hard and awesome.

I can remember my freshman year in marching band. Our team went to state and refused to go unless the band went with them. We were their energy. The school didn't want to rent another charter bus, but by god we were going to state. ;)

Our high school had a great band, but our football team SUCKED!!! (We lost a homecoming game 36 to zero) It got so bad that one year we didn't have a football team, but then we couldn't play. Our band director tried to get us to play at the school's soccer game instead, but that didn't work out....

I hate it how the football players have no respect for the marching band I mean after all we are at every single one of their games cheering then on. They should have to try to march every which way while carrying a 40 pound instrument or what I do in third tune of my bands field show, moving 17 yards in 12 counts in a 4/4 measure while doing a one handed 45 toss the only toss I have never dropped in practice or performance. They really do need to appreciate us more and stop giving us crap.

I just got back from a contest on saturday where we got Grand Champions, performing was the first time we had ever gone from top to bottom with our 11+ minute show. You also have to have a lot of stamina to be in the marching band and that doing all that is involved in marching band is something that football players could never attempt in their life.

All while being sought out, on average, by 3 to six 300lb men, and also have 1,000s of screaming fans in your ear, and in some situations 100,000 screaming fans while you're trying to synchronize 11 people to execute a single play as a unit.

I can remember my freshman year in marching band. Our team went to state and refused to go unless the band went with them. We were their energy. The school didn't want to rent another charter bus, but by god we were going to state. ;)

Haha you Band vs. Football people are in the wrong place. (Marching) Band and Football are two completely different things and they are both unique in their own ways. And you should all know better than to believe the stereotyped images of band members and football players. Just because the football players at your school are pushy jerks, or the band members are nerds, it doesn't mean that it's the same everywhere else.

Our high school had a great band, but our football team SUCKED!!! (We lost a homecoming game 36 to zero) It got so bad that one year we didn't have a football team, but then we couldn't play. Our band director tried to get us to play at the school's soccer game instead, but that didn't work out....

So we, as teh marching band; playing to the cheerleaders; the cheerleaders well; cheered for us. lol. We didn't give a hoot about the football team. They lost 6 to 50 something... Don't remember exactly how many points the other team had.

Band takes a LOT of time to learn notes, good sound, and marching is hell to do till around 7 PM (We have homework and shit to do too).... Espicially when it's either under the blazing sun or when it's cold as hell!

I hate it how the football players have no respect for the marching band I mean after all we are at every single one of their games cheering then on. They should have to try to march every which way while carrying a 40 pound instrument or what I do in third tune of my bands field show, moving 17 yards in 12 counts in a 4/4 measure while doing a one handed 45 toss the only toss I have never dropped in practice or performance. They really do need to appreciate us more and stop giving us crap.

I just got back from a contest on saturday where we got Grand Champions, performing was the first time we had ever gone from top to bottom with our 11+ minute show. You also have to have a lot of stamina to be in the marching band and that doing all that is involved in marching band is something that football players could never attempt in their life.

@Jazzsaxman1 I mean I guess getting up at 6am in the morning for lifts everyday is nothing right, after school practice till 7pm, studying film on the weekends on our opponents, summer workouts, 2adays, hell week, conditioning, offseason year round, liftting weights till 5pm during oss, morning jogs, sprint drills if we lose our game, and trying to excel and compete in the education deparement. try studying for ap exams and hw rite after practice its tortue and not all fbplayers are dumb retard.

@SweetCaroline39 haha, im in football but i have major respect for marching band. Im honestly a band geek at heart. Football, though (atleast on the line) is NO cakewalk whatsoever. try grubbing and blocking a 300 pound defensive lineman, or a linebacker blitzing a gap. They're totally different worlds. I'd do both if i could, but they're at the same season. Not all football players are bad (i admit quite a few are). But just dont expect that football is easy and anyone can play. Kapeesh? :)
