Got a new Spectrum Turbo in 87' & soon found 2 guys in a Sprint Turbo (3cyl, 70hp) daring to race me. When they caught up at the next red light, the driver said, through the smoke of his fried clutch, 'Damn, I should've gotten one of those'. That & being able to spin the tires in third helped me forget it had the worst crash statistics in its class. :)
How much power did you have?I have a N/A Spectrum,these are wonderful cars,they say they're not reliable but i reasonably doubt that.Its Pretty amazing you got a turbo version.
MY turbo which is the same year as the guy you commented to. i looked it up, mine makes 120 hp :D which is alot for a lightweight car, does anyone know how much these cars weigh? my title doesnt say, >.>
I think yours would be heavier,engine weight because i had the sohc single carb motor,but most come less than 2 to 3000 pounds,now im a big guy i lifted the back on my own these are fucking light for such a small four door,you cant find anything lighter than this,besides the old metros but try it out,i bet you you can lifted from an inch from the back thou.
As far as being light, I remember my friends picking up the car and turning it sideways in two spots at the mall so my bumpers were up against the doors of the cars beside it. I had to go back and forth 100 times to get out without hitting the cars beside me.
ALSO, supposedly it had the WORST crash statistics for any car in it's class. That would mean if you crashed into a Civic, Corolla, Excel, 323 or Golf, you're toast. I probably saw that stat on the evening news back then.
And for what it's worth, I could smoke my buddies pop-up headlight Integra and hit 120 on the highway. (redlined 6500rpm in fourth, figured it did 19mph per 1000rpm, was a bit slower in fifth, whatever the revs were.) Handling was OK compared to a first gen Integra but not quite as good. Swapped the Bridgestones for Yokohama AVS and learned to turn in slowly and let the tires just grip after it leaned.
haha yeah, i just bought a spectrum turbo same year as yours, 140k miles. smashed windshield and the driverside passenger door smashed shut lol! but god!!!!!!!!!! 300 bucks for a fast as hell car that gets 35 mpg!!!!!!!
um i think thos are 86 - - 90 cus i have a 87 and they only had em 4 years i think
i like em fun lil shit car lol i pulled 2 cars out of the ditch with them and 4-wheeler 2 times 100 MPH with mine lol no cold air intake no nos all stock exsept the CAT and muffler i fucked with not telling u what i did my car is fast would u like to race lol jkjk but it is fast

From what I recall of the Spectrum Turbo stats when I got mine,
1.5L 4 cylinder, 8 valve, fuel injected, turbocharged motor, 5-speed, FWD.
14" rims with 185/60HR14 Bridgestone Potenza RE88 tires.
rated at 110HP and 120 ft/lbs of torque.
Isuzu sold a Turbo I-Mark as well as a 16V 1.6 liter, I THINK it made 125hp, not sure on torque but I bet it was lower than the Turbo.
Curb weight was stated to be around 2000lbs for the four door, which is why it took off so well.
