It's quite hard, but it is possible. I've got decent tires, that helps I suppose. Just engage the clutch (when in first) and rev up the engine. At about 5000 rpm you release the clutch at once. You can go higher than 500 rpm, just make sure you don't flip over.
@Calv5 you don't.. you buy clip ons, or "drag bars" if you want them lower... or.. buy a gsx-r if you want a sport bike. these gs5500f or gs650f are nowhere near as fast as the gsx650f (katana) and the katanas are nowhere near as fast as the GSX-R which are made for racing. these bikes are -technically- a standard but have a full fairing on them.
hi there, ive got a 2006 GS500F how do you do the wheelies in this motorcycle? did you customize it? do you bounce it and pull it up while you accelerate? lean back? or do you just pop the clutch? give me some tips please =) thanks
on the public roads I've got some problems as well. For my videos I always drove on concrete roads, I guess there was way more grip there than on the normal public roads.
I have a 2004 GS500F, the same bike here basically, and the pedals are in a perfect position when you get on the bike...remember its not a crotch rocket, its a sport tour, which means the handlebars are higher with the higher pegs...and fuel, you just reset the tripmeter everytime you fill up, so that when it reaches the amount (usually 150km) you have to fill up again.
I fit perfectly on it, but you'll have to try it for yourself.
The fuel consumption is very low. This isn't a monster of a machine, I get about 5,5l / 100km an it has got a tank of 20l.
When you start dring it's hard to tell when you HAVE GOT TO fill up the tank, (I do it when I've got around 200km) but it has got a 'tripmeter' and that one tells you how far you've gone. After a while you'll get used to the bike and know when to fill it up, with the help of the tripmeter.
Ive actually been looking at these bikes for my first bike (just got my license last year and have been riding friends' bikes) is this actually a good starter bike? Please comment, thanks.
Yhea I love the maintenance because its easy and great if you plan on doing your own instead of paying for the man hours.
Great starter but if you have the money The liquid cooled 500 Kawasaqi might be nice. My GS500F was a gift lol so I didn't get a chance to look at other options.
I'm pleased with the GS, but I want just a little more torque. My uncle has got an V-strom, I think that's just a perfect engine, but I don't like the looks of it.
I'm 100% content with the bike. It could use just a little more HP, but I reach 160-180km/h depending on the type of road. But from 120 to 160 can take a few seconds. 0-100 goes quite fast (4,5 - 5 sec)
It's really fine for me, and it's fast enough to get a ticket each two months =(
I bought a 2007 GS500f two weeks ago and love it. I like traveling with it and i get a lot of respect from other people. I just hate the fucking tailgaters bastards they are. So i just go 70mph to burn them away. I am still getting use to the bike though, so 70mph is kinda fast for me atm. I do enjoy going 60mph though.
@09R1PILOT haha well during that period I wasn't use to riding a motorcycle. I sold this bike 7 months later and bought a 09 Triumph Speed Triple. I went from 484cc bike to a 1050cc bike. It's a big jump but it's one hell of a bike in the mountains and making abrasive maneuvers through traffic.
whats the seating position on these because i was going to purchase one in a few days but after seeing how high the handlebars im quite deterred, it looks like you cant hug the tank.
looks like your sitting on a cruiser!
is this true or can you get nice and low behind the screen and on the tank without breaking your wrists
I got a few questions for you since I'm possibly going to get that same bike as my first...Did or do you get tired of the GS50? Is enough power to keep you satisfied for a while? And now that you've learn to get the bike up, when will you try to sustain that position while riding? When you do post it...Peace
question.........when you get it popped up....are you still in like first gear when you bring it back down or do you shift it at all? I've seen video's with bigger bikes and they shift while they are doing wheelie's, does that apply with gs550f? I have one of these and I want to learn how to do this. Thanks
I'm still kinda worried bout popping mine up. Scared it will get out from under me. I bought my GS a few weeks ago. It was my first bike ever and I actually love it. I wanted a black/grey one but they was out of stock. So I got the Blue/White one...
just try doing it at a slow pace first, thers only one way to learn n thats practise, we all gonna fall off at sum point not point tryin 2 avoid it cus its gonna happen, ive falen of plenty of times and its just gets funnier every time, not the pain of course but that fact that u came of!!! but when does it happen thats up 2 you really, if you havnt fallen of on your own n u do end up with a collision with a car you wont know whaat to do cus uve never experianced it, i shure as hell hafve, peace
i own an ex500 so kinda same power ,, the ex has alittle more. Um i wouldnt do it the way this person is. i find dumping the clutch at a low rpm both feels and sounds like im doing something bad lol. I ride up to about 7k in first, then pull in the clutch rev her up to like 10/11k and let it back in. feels much easier on the bike, and sounds better!!
Mine is restricted to 25kw, when i'm going faster than 25-30km/h (2500rpm+-?) he won't go up anymore:) Since I drive on the public roads, I don't do it anymore ;)
0:07 those look like my boots..did you buy them at walmart? lol

I'd like to buy one gs500f, and I have few question, care to answer?
Are you feeling you are kissing your knees, as pedals have very high position?
What about fuel, how do you know when you should poor some, or how many you have left?

Im 6,1 though. (i think that puts me in that tall category, haha)
Doesnt matter though, i bought a 1992 ninja 600r
its funny, supposedly my ninja is almost as big as a hayabusa. buts it feels so small to me.
picking up a drz 400 super moto tommorrow :D

DRZ400 is awesome. anyway, I can hunch over on the GS at highway speeds.
1992 Ninja 600R as big as a Hayabusa? Never heard that before

Hmm, i geuss ill have to go to my dealer to test a gs500f. (can never have too many bikes, just too little money haha)
Idk evidentley the length and wheelbase of my bike is close to a busa's.
ill have to investigate!
TheBoyNamedNoize 2 years ago
I find a busa too big to drive between two cars at a two lane road. And it's a bit heavy in my opinion.
But some of them look nice, for sure!
