Electric bikes are fantastic; I am a petrolhead myself and love ICE in all its shapes and sizes, but the sooner people get over the nostalgia of the sights and sounds of IC engines and come to terms with the superior performance of electric motors the better. What is holding the technology back currently is not the motors but the battery technology. Ultimately, batteries will never replace combustible fuels in terms of outright convenience and energy density, perhaps a synthesised IC fuel...
Cedric u r my brother man! Ever wondered why there r annoying loud ass scooters but yet no smooth sounding electric bikes or scooters? Some more stress for us all. Cheers.
can we get rid of the pistons and victorian tech already? Yes i would love a duke in my museum....I want a fucking tron bike that I can top up at home, is that too much to ask?
even if and I mean "IF" the electric motor does ever fully replace the internal combustion engine they will have to make poked wheels like on our old push bikes available so we can put one of those plastic strips from the small pot plants held on by a clothes peg to make the bike sound like its got an engine!
shit eh they may as well make up a TTPP series the way things are going... "PP" as in "pedal power" ;)
It is true that ecology is one of the most important things we must care about, as it is true that this is one of the saddest things I have ever seen!
sound is a big aspect of the race. makes it boring if they just silently roll past crowd, love the concept of zero emmissions, but maybe something for crowd (loud music?)
this is the future...and more like in 10 years..... good on the tt organisers for staging this race....im looking forward to electric power...no more queing at garages and getting messy with engine oil...this technology will superseed combustion engines, and we will laugh at how we even used them in the first place..
personaly i dont think you could ever replace the internal combustion engine, but i would love to have a go on one of these bike :D constant torque man!!!
@sidewayzskillz of course they will replace the ICE. This is early development and, as such, is making big leaps and battery tech is growing fast. Not only are we running out of fossil fuels, this technology will be infinitely better than dinosaur ICE! It's already close and catching up fast.
@sidewayzskillz How fast is this technology developing? Check out the difference between last year and this. Within 10 years, probably 5, anyone wanting real performance will want electric, but I understand the nostalgia for a nearly redundant technology. Some of the best fun I've ever had was tooling a GPZ750R around Phillip Island back in the day. Great sound but all that noise is wasted energy. With constant torque electric puts the power to the road more efficiently. The key to performance.
@sidewayzskillz ICE won't ever completely disappear. Let's face it, there are still people enthusiastic about steam power. i've had visions of the 'Top Gear' guys enthusing about V8 supercars in cardigans whilst most people are zooming around in serious performance vehicles..
What we will laugh at is the piffling overall efficiency of IC motors, but we will be yearning for the days of splashing a nice, energy dense liquid fuel into a tank and zooming of in seconds; batteries just don't cut it in terms of energy density or convenience. The motors on the other hand... WOW!
great stuff, i hope it gets bigger and bigger every year. this will help to develop the electric motorbike racing...it may not be important right now, but we will see in 100 years, or less...who knows.
Engineering a great bike is one thing - making a good movie that ignites excitement is another. If you are wanting to sell the bike for $68,000 bucks, you better gert somebody that knows how to make a presentation; this one sucked!
I recommend to watch Top Gear here on YouTube and you find out what you are doing wrong here.
Love the bike, but too much money! And for people that can swing it, the presentation too boring.
have you ever thought about how much the first ever cars cost? Until mass production begins in this sector, it just will not get much cheaper mate... specially batteries which are by far the most expensive part of these bikes.
i know they rev. but is a silencious rev. the noise helps you to drive, and the gears help you get the better traction possible in some situations. this even has only one gear. i dont like it. but is a step forward for sure.
"we" as in the UK? As in Agni? It'l drive technology to another level if there's more interest. Agni was on several machines and several had problems.
A123 is good for POWER but not for energy..... you wouldn't be able to fit in enough batteries to finish the race if you used A123.
Yes, UK won the PRO class, but 2 other american teams won places in pro and americans got top 2 in the OPEN class. Not bad, 2 UK, 4 americans, 2 german teams and an indian team finished the race.

In 5 years' time oil/petrol will be so rare and so expensive this will be the ONLY way to travel - let's invest more in this technology

im not convinced, they probably will for every day life but when it comes to sport ice is to much fun.

we make very good motors
