  • I think the heads were really killing this setup. Fortunately this thing had something break internal and lost oil pressure and developed a big knock. So now I'm going to build a 402. I need to decide which heads I'm going to run and get it put together.

  • @LPMSS are you goin with ls3 heads and port them becuase im goin with a lq4 ls3 heads have the ls3 ported and go with a trex cam and a carb set up hopefully soon and then drop that into my monte carlo ss

  • how is TR claming 451/406 won a 99 TransAm with stock unported cylinder heads, Thunder Racing's T-ReX v.2 camshaft, and a full package of bolt-on parts, including long tube headers, pulley, LS6 intake manifold, Whisper lid, ported throttle body. if your only getting 400 u need a better tune possibly?... btw this car sounds awesome i love it....

  • Quickest I've been in the 1/4 is 12.89 @117. It should go quicker if I can get it out of the hole better. My 60 was like 2.23. Trex isn't bad for everyday driving if you have 4.11's. If you don't mind a little surge at lower speeds and lower rpms.

  • @LPMSS  talking automatic correct? manual shouldnt have any problems except no bottom end tourqe without gearing.

    The exhaust is as follows; Pacesetter longtubes, 3" collectors, into a 3" x pipe, then into 16" long Dynomax Race Bullets 3" in & 3" out and thats it. No turndowns after the race bullets.

  • No flycutting is necessary with the trex.

  • How was ptv clearance with the trex? Did you have to flycut pistons.?

  • Did you have to flycut pistons for the Trex cam? I know it would be great on a ls1 but not sure about a 6.0L.. Nice car..

  • Damn, you still made pretty decent numbers with those 853's on there. Are you thinking about at least getting soem 241's or 243's?

    I'm thinking about running this setup until it blows and then building a stroker or something capable of 500RWHP all motor.

  • That's the REAL way to do it. All motor son. And since it will be a built motor, you will have some room to throw in a little laughing gas haha.

  • bro, your chokin that motor with those junk heads and not reaping all the benefits of that sweet cam you have. they arent even worth porting. If your on a budget, get you some 243s, get you a dyno tune, and you will see probly 40 more rwhp. Thats a bad ass cam though btw.

    may I also mention, with that low compression on that motor...RUN SOME NOS!!!

  • Just a suggestion chuck out those 853 heads and ls6 intake and get the l92 heads and l76 intake

  • I have AFR heads with my t-rex cam, what kinda exhaust is it i know its true dual but what brand I have SLP Loudmouth but its sounds horrible with my set up too raspy for my liking

  • BTW, before my FAST 92/92 install I was at 373 RWHP and just over 400 RWTQ. Ported 862's do wonders man... need to get better heads to take advantage of the High RPM'S that cam wants to see to make power.

  • I have a set up like this. My 99 TA has an LQ4, FAST 92, PTM 92 TB, Kooks 1 7/8's LT and 4" exhaust.

    Im looking at a cam right now and think Im going smaller than the donkey D*ck Trex. 233/239 on a 114 will make this LQ4 scream. Mid 11's and drivabilty.

  • what osp80 said its basically a cammed 6.0 LQ4 with stock heads. The LQ4 pistons have a decompressed dish all the way around them and are not flat tops like found in the LQ9 and stock LS1 engines. Your right if I had flat top pistons to raise my compression ratio and had some aftermarket heads or a great port job on the heads I have now it would make alot more power.

  • great build but this car should be making alot more power than that. What pistons are you using? Was the cam grinded for your build? A good set of pistons can add as much as 100hp. What compression ratio are you running? Just seems like this motor isnt putting out the power your money spent

  • it's just a cammed 6.0,he didn't say the heads were ported.he could make a little more power.piston won't even approach 100 more hp.a point of compression usually adds 4-6% more hp

  • its 2%...nice build though, i am doing pretty much the same build for my 00 TA..but im going to have the heads milled some for a little high compression, and running a smaller cam. most likely the tsp 233/239

  • if you have 350hp with 9.5 comp. your gonna pick up more than 7hp from going to 10.5
