  • The 'Escape from Alcatraz' triathlon consists of a swim from/or nearby Alcatraz island to the mainland where athletes bike and run the San Francisco hills - On the run athletes encounter 'the sand ladder' or the steep sand steps shown in the video above. The sand steps are not found on the actual island of Alcatraz.
