I shed tears when this happened, and still shed tears watching it. This guy did so much for the city of Edmonton, both on and off the ice. He has been my favorite player growing up, even adapted a playing style similar to his. I wish Ryan and his family the best of luck, and I have faith you will one day return to our great Oilers!

What it boils down to is Ryan wanted to stay in Edmonton. Lowe wanted to take this team into a different direction and if that meant sacraficing the heart and soul of the team than so be it. i think Ryan will be back. Not right away but eventually.

no it doesnt! there was a small dissagreement on the price and i think smyth was worth it, he's done way more than any of the players that year, and it was really sad to see him go. i know fans started not comming and all that. it was pathetic, i think lowe should be fired! nothing to do with a different direction.

Totally agree with you. Check out a player like Selanne (48G, 46A this year) who played all 82 games. He's making 3.75 Mil now after last season (40G,50A). Smyth's BEST EVER year was 70P. "I want 5.5Mil". Good luck. I agree his heart and leadership counts for something but it has never gotten the Oilers very far. All I know is that the OILERS SUCK!
