@SamByrd75 im pretty sure he hasn't used binson's for a long while, but that's beside the point, there may be some drive on the guitar but you can hear phase sections while he does his rhythm picking. (you can hear a slight: "wah woh wicka wicka wah woh wika wika", or the sections of a phase.)
It couldn't be any other way for David Gilmour. Playing guitar in a backyard shed, surrounded by music and a cool summer's breeze. Congrats to you sir, it's a nice life.
It would be cool an album with this kind of sound, more electronic, more audacious, but not overloaded. Ambient beats. I think it would be refreshing.
@bryonathon Yeah, it's not a Floyd album, I just expected to like the album itself, as much as I liked this clip. Gilmour's notes seemed to be the more "up-front", for this video, while Gilmour was sort of put on the back burner on the actual album. I'm hoping Gilmour squeezes out another album of his own soon. It just works out better, IMO.
@TheFloydian1 True ... there are definite Gilmour saturated moments throughout the album, though. I've been an Orb fan for years and a Floyd fan since I was very young. These are two of my favorite artists collaborating, here. It's like a psychedelic sandwich!!! Nom nom ....
How is it that I like this video more than the whole album? The album is a bit too techno for my tastes. I heard none of this on the album. I heard the slide guitar, but none of the notes on this. I think Gilmour had something different in mind when helping with this.
@TheFloydian1 Definitely a premix in this vid. Was expecting more from the album, too ... but the Orb have always leant towards the trance-state and allow the bass to do what it does. Gilmour was a little more than filler, here. After all, it's NOT a Pink Floyd album. Waters was touring at the time, for whatevere's sake!!!
I love the contrast of nature and electronic-driven sound. I always associated Floyd music with elements and ambiance of nature- cool to actually see them out in it- playing.
Don,t think david is using the real blackstrat here, check out behind the bridge its really new,the blackstrat was filled in here,i think you can see a custom shop sticker behind the tuners too, great guitar/player nonetheless just an observation
Don,t think david is using the original blackstrat here.Check out behind the bridge its really new,the blackstrat was filled in here. i think you can spot a custom shop sticker by the tuners aswell. Great guitar/player,nonetheless,just an observation.

@lene2free naw i say syd barrett, roger, david, richard, and nick were the heart of pink floyd no one bigger than the name. or u can say there were 3 phases of pink one with syd, then roger then ending with dave
@lene2free not saying there isnt 100% truth to that statement. but the same works both ways, during the Pulse version of Comfortably Numb, or any other non-waters version, you can notice the lack of Rogers erie, almost evil, overtone during his parts. Almost everyone can agree to disagree that they are the absolute best when performing together
just seen em live.......dull as the goverment.....boring.......ploding along like a special effects button on overload.......flippin lame......only good on acid eye suppose.......this track sounds lame 2
@lene2free I agree mostly, but you may want to give a listen to Water's doing this live on the "In The Flesh" That is an excellent version as well, with a hired gun doing the vocals, a lefthanded guitarist whose name escapes me.
@CoaxRhino Nope, his other mains axes are a Goldtop les paul with p90s and his Gretsch Duo Jet, listen to that on 'Where we Start' (check it out on 'live in Gdansk)
He owns many different types of guitars, varieties of Strats, Teles, LPs etc etc
@lene2free Oh man I so so agree with you! Roger is to me the coolest rock star of all time but David has this way of singing and guitar style that made him my hero since I was 7 years old.
@lene2free I'm one of those people that loved Pink Floyds efforts after Rogers departure even more then the pre-Rogers break-up. David has a incredible emotional feel to his playing that is beyond words. He will forever be my greatest influence.
@lene2free couldnt agree more, seen the wall live in columbus last night and even though it was fucking awesome beyond my expectations, gilmour just feels right, he is by far the driving force in my life to keep me playing guitar and for me to go forth in experimentation in music. in lamens terms, GILMOUR IS GOD
Pink Floyd and Killing Joke are my two favorite bands so I thought it was pretty cool to see Gilmour and Youth there together. At 1:08 Youth is playing bass thinking "Holy shit, I'm jammin' with Gilmour!" while Dave's thinking "Holy shit, you're just as bad as Roger." : )
I don't rate any guitarist as high. Gilmour outplays them all, and that means Clapton or Page, as good as they are. Just listen to the sounds he gets from his guitar! I'm looking forward to this collaboration, too.
@lene2free You are absolutely right! I have seen both live and last time I saw David there was just something about his playing and his setup that blows your mind! My belt buckle was shaking during Comfortably Numb!
"Pay my rent" would be better. Interesting how great musicians become slags. Gilmour seeking street cred by working with Youth. Youth himself will work with anyone (Yazoo, Bananarama) under the guise that it's "liberating" to work as a producer with all manner of "entertainers" (they are not artists), charging exorbitant fees and then blabbering on about spirituality. Bollocks. A total and utter fucking sell-out.
@bufon63 - Like David Gilmour has to prove anything to anyone? If you are referring to Youth as a sell-out, that's your prerogative, but if you are referring to David Gilmour- well, I will reserve comment unless you say otherwise.
