Just awesome the tune and the movie original only the remake was a rather shit copy cat it didn't work. I wish they still made films of this quality great plot, story and acting well done Mr Mann it should have won every award possible so should the actors for there landmark performances. check me out preaching n shit. lol
I don't know I like both versions equally, for different reasons though, they're both entirely different films when you look at them side by side, just sort of depends on what you're in the mood to watch. However one thing Red Dragon didn't really have was the music such as this and others, gives the movie a really cool atmospehere.
IL FILM DI MICHEAL MANN E' NETTAMENTE SUPERIORE ,DEL SUO PIU' FAMOSO PREDECESSORE ,"IL SILENZIO DEGLI INNOCENTI"....LA FOTOGRAFIA DI DANTE SPINOTTI E' MAGISTRALE....LA COLONNA SONORA E' MAGNIFICA E COIVOLGENTE ED E' PARTE INTEGRANTE DELL'OSSATURA DEL FILM...LA SCENEGGIATURA E LA REGIA E I DIALOGHI SONO DA APOTEOSI....IL COIVOLGIMENTO EMOTIVO E' AI MASSIMI LIVELLI....COMPLIMENTI!!!
In the books and movies other than Manhunter, it's Lecter. In Manhunter, it's Lecktor. In Manhunter it's Dollarhyde instead of Dolarhyde. Will's son's name is Willy in the book of Red Dragon, but his name is Kevin in Manhunter and Josh in the 2002 adaptation of Red Dragon.
Really one of the best movie about Lecter (or should I say Lektor??). The 2002 remake is not as good as this one. Shame, really. With Edward Norton and Anthony Hopkins, it would be great, but it's really useless. And Brian Cox, just...wow. And great song too.
I can picture myself in a white suit with a teal button up shirt and a white tie standing at the edge of a 20 story building eyes closed arms spread out hands wide open with my lockes blowing back in the wind, that's what I feel when I listen to this song.
This movie is actual as to how insane criminals are incarcerated. WHAT I CANT STAND IS how you have silence w/hopkins and its entirely for entertainment. I feel demeaned when I see SOTL---NO sociopathic insane murderer is put into a dungeon like SOTL. Thats just one aspect. This by far in my opinion is light years ahead of SOTL, red dragon, and hannibal.
Amazing track, jst put tv on and the main scene with this song was on, I tried to get hold of it couple of years ago cound't find it anwhere, anyone have any ideas how I could get the sountrack, last I heard was only available on tape!
Beginning reminds a little of Gabriel's Sledgehammer.
One of the biggest oddities in music as good as these guys were as Prime Movers it took Dread Zeppelin to go platinum. I still listen to Un-Led-Ed to this day......
the original, and infinitely superior of the Hannibal lekter genre of films, the later remake of this particular film was red dragon which, compared to manhunter is like comparing a lawnmower engine to a 5.7 litre v8 hemi.......strange but true...
One can only wonder what inspired the song to begin with. Unless I'm mistaken it was not composed for the film but existed before MANHUNTER was produced.
Holy shit, thanks for posting this. I remember the first time I saw Manhunter (in like 2003) - I had never seen anything like it in terms of the oddball, somewhat surrealist 80s aesthetics and music (having grown up during the mid and late 90s.) I was blown away by this sick song. To this day I vastly prefer Manhunter to "Red Dragon" and Tom Noonan OWNS Ralph Fiennes any day of the week!!!
Noonan, hands down. I read somewhere that he in fact was hassled by people after the movie for his convincing role. Just shows that his portrayal was believable and memorable. He had a good comedic part in Easy Money, too.
Noonan claimed in an interview that he ran into a woman at the end of an aisle in a grocery store shortly after the release of htis movie and she just screamed when she saw him.
Yeah there is a romantic scene during the sequence of the botched attempted capture which is not in many versions of the film. The Anchor Bay special DVD had both this and a couple of other short scenes in it that are not in the most commonly seen cut.
Strong as I am! There's something 'bout this thing That scares me. Strong as I am! There's something 'bout this thing That dares me. Strong as I am! There's something 'bout this thing That harms me. Strong as I am! There's something 'bout this thing That charms me.
@AxelBitz Abraxas was fantastic... the villain (Secundus) also squares off with a young boy while the music is playing, saying something like "Just you, me, and the anti-life equation now!"
@plasticman06 yeeee everyone made that popular turd that plays dollarhyde out to be awesome. Tom Noonan plays the perfect villain.. my favourite scene is in the bed with the blind girl <3
Hey Mike great job, this song brings back my memories of the 80's here in Miami when I was growing up. Yeah this also came out in an episode or two of the Miami Vice TV series.
amazing song ! i watched the movie again and it just made me feel again the greatness of the 80' cinema - talking about psychopaths movies , they could not make it better than that , we are quite unlucky to live in times where serial killers roles are gonna be taken by model alike actors that i won't believe their act in million light years - yes , the past is better !
what a great song! and goes so well with the movie , could not think of anything more suitable - very good movie as well , takes by miles Silence of the lambs - a middle of the road version to make some office types afraid .
such a grat song , and such a fantastic film, the best of the seriel killer genre, the remake Red Dragon was so piss compared to manhunter, i mean dollarhyde is meant to be a big powerful bodybuilder: fuckin ralph fiennes??! he cudnt be less beleivable, tom noonan is the real Tooth Fairy
i think more time and thought was spent on who was to play the roles in manhunter than in the remake red dragon. manhunter is by far better than red dragon, noonan was the best choice for the role.
What I love most about this song is how it's played right on cue in the part where Tom Noonan rips off the dashboard in his van. That sent chills up my spine first time I saw it.
I just saw this movie the other night for like the 55th time, lol. I love this song & the one called "Heartbeat" at the end of the credits. One of Michael Mann's best films ever imo!
try 'Thief Mann's first, Tangerine Dream, wow. but this was one Triumph of the 80's, surpassed perhaps by Heat, but with De Niro, Pacino and Ashley friggin Judd, pretty obvious. hmmmm. what's next Michael? Godfather IV
What's fascinating to me is how the song could refer either to Will Graham or to Francis Dollarhyde. They are brothers under the skin; Rage fuels them both.
the poor tormented soul in this film represents how cruel people are, he is very damaged by peoples judgements of his appearance. he almost finds redemption when he falls in love! but a misunderstanding drives him back into his psychopathic ways
Michael Mann always had a gift for matching images and scenes with perfectly complementary music.....Unless, of course, his real gift resided in simply finding the ideal specialist for the task. Either way you look at it, we owe him.....Bigtime.
You've got that backwards. This is the original version. Gregory Markel (vocalist with both this lineup of the Prime Movers and Altered State) wrote it just before joining the Prime Movers, and redid it a few years later with Altered State...
