  • The full length of this was on here a while ago, any chance of the rest of the film being uploaded? Or is it available anywhere commercially? In any case, thanks so much for sharing this.

  • great! thinking it is gujari todi though. at least so far no trace of the Pancham that would make it miyan-ki-todi. but beautiful. thanks for placing!

  • The "meeting a milestone" documentary is now on youtube. someone uploaded very recently.

  • Ustad demolishes the myth the instrumentalists are lesser than vocalists - brings tears to my eyes.. we all miss you Ustad... even after years of your death your music still rings loud.. thanks posting.

  • he was god send angle on earth. i will miss him as long as i"m in this world.

  • @tdevans33 Mohan Lal?

  • Tom, thanks for the reply. Goutam Ghosh made 'Meeting a Milestone', a documentary on Bismillah Khan produced by Indian National Film Dev Corp in 1989. There was a wonderful part where Khan explained the singing styles of different gharanas. But sadly the film isn't available online or in stores today - that's why the memory is hazy and I couldn't be sure whether this too was from there. Was this part of a larger project for you?

  • @prakharrudra Yes, this was part of a larger project for me...My professor, James Beveridge, made a film featuring Kahn Sahib, in 1967. My intent was to further his work with a more musicological focus. In the process, I shot this vocal alap but also shot the same raga with Kahn Sahib playing shahnai. It is yet to be published. Did you check out Mohan Lal?

  • @prakharrudra Meeting a Milestone (Sangemeel Se Mulaqat) - Goutam Ghose (1989) is available in youtube

  • is this from gautam ghosh's film?

  • @prakharrudra I shot this film in March 1981 at Kahn Sahib's home in Varanasi, UP, India. Am not familiar with Gautam Ghosh's film but would like to become so.

  • Thank you for sharing this very rare gem. I didn't realise Ustadji was a singer as well.

  • khan sahab was a saint, there's no doubt about it. am very fortunate to have met him several times in london and heard him play and sing. he was like a child, so pure and innocent.

  • I thank the entity I revere as God for affording me the chance of having heard this great soul's vocal performance ... and for having lived in his time & age. A timeless artist who is in eternal MAUJ as he goes about doing mankind a favor by this melodious singing !

  • This is true Gem. By the way how do you "pimp" your Channel?

  • beautiful alap

  • Ustad Bismillah Khan Saheb is a beautiful singer. The children are so attentive.

  • ,fantastic,he was a great musician

  • this was what i was searching for thank you

  • bahot barya!! very specail please have a look

  • Excellent.

  • Khan Sahib was more of a saint than a Musician . I have to admit he was equally proficeient a singer than a shehnai player

  • Man-o-man, he sings better than many professional singers! What talent! What greatness! Fantastic!

  • Wonderful. I always loved his shehnai. Now I have discovered that he also sang beautifully. Always appreciated his modest and warm personality.

  • video quality is poor!

  • dude...it's not video ... film...focus on the music.

  • The eternal spirit ...or ...GOD...flows thru such music and such dedicated musicians like him !

  • I am short on words for this man.!! Salam ..!!

  • RIP great maestro ustad Bismillah Khan

  • A Gift From The God ... Thanks for posting this rare clip...

  • The only true master. A gem of the music world who will never die, and is peerless. A God send.

    God bless his soul.

  • Great soul. A Great son of India.

  • Ustad ji waz amazing. Praise Allah mian!!

  • i am very grateful to you, tdevans33 for posting this. A very intimate video about a legend.

  • Atrue musician, and a saint in real life. His simplicity and lack of ego and lack of interest in money made him the most respected musician of the sub-continent. In addition he brought out an obscure instrument and made it world famous. Godbless him.

  • Kdkapoor ji.you are 110%right about khan saheb and i couldnt say any thing more than that about a true saint.RIP.

  • You are right KDKAPOOR. His simplicity made him better then everyone. When he got an offer to settle into USA,he said "get the river ganga there and i will move to USA"

  • my friend, thanks for sharing this anecdote. it made me cry. may allah be merciful upon khan saheb.

  • Simply amazing....solah aane such baat hai khaan saab ki.

  • A sensitive and powerful intimate portrayal of an art form that deserves a much wider audience in the west...
