  • this song gives me goosebumps !!!

  • my birthday is of year 1988,but i want go back and live in 50's and 60's

  • Please do not COMPARE . You are Insulting Muhammad Rafi and Lata Mangeshker.

Rafi is Rafi and Lata is Lata.

  • iheard this for the first time and its very beautiful almost the same as that of muhammad rafi s versiom but sadhanas acting is better

  • Sadhna was a craze during her time.Present day actresses stand no where near her.

But today no body would even recognize her.How life changes?Sowe should always live in present day world.

  • its basically a mans song

  • thumbs up if u loved he discription of this song..impeccable..!!

  • I think it is unfair to compare Rafi sahab and Lataji! Some songs suit a particular voice better than others. "Aji rooth kar" from Aarzoo was better in Lataji's voice than Rafi sahab's. The pitch suited Lata better than Rafi sahab, Why compare two legends?

  • With all due respect to Lataji, her version of this song is no where compared to RafiSaheb's singing. Rafisaheb's singing of this song, as with many other songs he has sung, simply divine.

  • kiya kahu bas itna k aj ki shari me woh pehly jessi baat nahi rahi

  • I do not pay any attention to the song.just looking at sadhna she is so cute in this song.

  • EXCELENT ,,,,, SOFT ROMANCE

  • she is not afghani though yogurt eating may give them silky skin. indians eat yogurt too. she is sindhi . was born at hyderabad in sindh (now in Pakistan) in 1942. her full name is sadhna shivdasani.

  • if anyone doubts that lataji is inferior to any one, i say anyone then listen to "ae mere watan ke logon zara aankh mein bhar lo paani"

  • @erarshadharoon

"ae mere watan ke logon zara aankh mein bhar lo paani" is a jingoist poisonous song. Why bring it in here of all places?

  • one of the best shayari........

  • Hi Maria

  • Beautiful song

  • see the..tinkles frm her voice like...the sentence zindagi...yaad tujhe..no faults...straight fi99 waves amazin strings frm heaven...while all other voices r jinxed nd mixed..she s purity....lata lata...no one can cum closer.....xpression personofied vital nd pivotal singer..till tdy...oops...m sort of wrds fr this song..

  • he he..lata reigns in her own..istyle..this one has sum smoothnes..nd sort of soothin feelin..comparin is baseless...u can feel gr8ness in both d versions..salute..lata...nd d charm she has produced fr decades....

  • completely/totally ruined this video, with your raykha kalra favorites garbage!!

  • kum always !

    "angry"

  • 1st time listening,,,but really lovely one ,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Bravo..bravisimo...ja vas volim..i volim

    ovu muziku...VOLIM STO SAM OVDE

  • i just crossed my teen age ....

    more i ageing...

more i liking these kinda songs :D

  • Goosebumps

  • this song is the best. no, could sing songs like this anymore, not even lata jee herself. sadhna is the best as always. i love her as a actress and would always be a fan. love this song so much

  • beautiful

  • This girl looks like an Afghani Girl in my university here in USA. Is she Afghani? They eat a lot of yogurt ..part of Afghani food (yummy, delicious).. -- I was told which gives them that wonderful waxy skin...

  • She is not Afghani (although I am sure they are beautiful:) She is Indian, her name is Sadhna and she was a famous Bollywood actress in the 1960s.

  • @Feleqech

This just shows that religion does not shape the looks...

It is is just another kind of makeup.

  • @ssehram she is not afghani ..she is an indian actress sadhana..she is not muslim...

  • The song was originally written for the male 7 has characteristics of it.. but she is good too and sweet. But definitely the male voice is MOVING and superior.

  • rafi's version of this song has far more depth, emotions, he sings the words like he really means each word , giving every word a totally broad perspective. lata is a great singer but just does not match the version by rafi. anyways the version sung by rafi is the one which gained acclaim and unless you saw the movie one is not even aware the lata sang the same song

  • exactly, u know i wasnt aware tht lata had sung the same song in most cases,n thts not becos im a mega Rafi sahab fan , but its mainly becos as u said, they never gained any acclaim!

  • my jaan naaz

  • Does anyone know the resung version to this song?

    I can't find it anywhere!

  • lovely

  • Just my personal opinion is that Lataji has much more of an expression in her singing than Rafi sahib.

  • For me Lata is the best female singer and Rafi the best male singer and I want to listen to both of them. They have sung some wonderful duets together.

  • vlohani: let me take a wild guess and say you are a Rafi fan? What gave you away? That's clouding your judgement a bit. There are a lot of great singers and we can enjoy all of their great songs - Saigal, Mukesh, Lata, Asha, Rafi, Kishore, Manna Dey....

  • It goes both ways - In the movie Arzoo (bewitching Sadhana again) both Rafi and Lata sing the same song - Aji Rooth Kar Ab Kahan - Lata's was far better. In terms of longevity, Lata outlasted Rafi. Lata is the better singer because she had more range - Rafi's voice doesn't go up very high. But I agree that both are great, and we can be fans of both singers

  • You ought to be kidding sir, if Rafi's voice can't go very high then all the other singers including Lata shall be doomed to be considered inarticulate. The fact that Rafi version in Arzoo was small doesn't mean that he rendered it inferior to Lata- in fact each and every moment when Rafi sings the song, his command is so much supreme that one can't help marvel at the ease with which he delivers the song.

As for range, it is well known Rafi outstrips anyone by miles

    But no hard feelings intended

  • i dont understand why there is so much comparison between Lata and Rafi and why people prefer one over the other.

they were, are, and will always be the greatest legends of Indian music..so pretty much both versions of the song are great

  • I think the Rafi version a few shades better than Lata.'s. No hard feelings please.

  • I love this song, both versions... but one thing is certain... I would rather watch Sadhna than Rajender Kumar any day ^_^

  • I m 28 n hv been listening to Lata n Rafi since i was a kid , i can say i hv grown up listening to both of them n almost know all of their songs. i love them both for their wonderful n unique treasure of songs that they have given. BUT now this comparison between both of them luks quite silly for me.. they have been at the top among either gender singers..

  • Part V

It used to be somewhat similar to what we we see here in the actions of Johnny Walkjer and the hero. People who did not understand a word of the language, remained motionless until the song was over. Believe me I saw it many times. So, I used to think about those days when my elderly friend, an expert in "classical" music, used to admonish me for my poor taste. Time had given its verdit !

The Rafi version, to begin with, is the original expression of passionate love by a male person.

  • I understand your point and accept it. I am 23 years old so I have no emotional stories related to these songs. I love old hindi songs, and though that makes me a "boring" fellow among my friends, who cares.

My point was, I made no comparison between Lata and Rafi. Two different singers each with their own skills. All I said was, I prefer the male version of this song...as it expresses my feelings better for me.

  • As far as Lata and Rafi go, they were both great singers. To say one was better than the other is stupid in my opinion, but as I said before, to each his own. As far as my personal preference goes, I respect Lata for her singing, but I respect Rafi more as a person. Now, again my opinion....thumbs down for this too?

  • Part IV

"Ik Shahanshah Nay Bana Kay Haseen Taj Mahal..."

In our song, Shakil Badayuni is practically at the climax of his art. The composers, singers and musicians, every one has done wondres, be it male or female version.

Two years ago, after breaking my leg in an accident, I spent my evenings in an Asian restaurant and saw a DVD which included only Lata version. Usually, upon hearing the tune, the voice and words "Meray Mebboob", European customers, "stopped eating".

    See Part V

  • Part III

The male version is longer, more "full", and has a greater thrust. When I look back, I tend to think that it was the beginning of the period when great poets were just beginning to use the words "Meri Mehboob", or "Meray Mehboob". Examples : Faiz Ahmed Faiz wrote :"Mujh sey pehli si mohabbat, MERI MEHBOOB naN maaNg". Sahir Ludhianvi said " MERI MEHBOOB kaheeN aur Mila Kar Mujh Sey" i.e. not at Taj Mahal. Shakil Badayuni brought a challenging reply to Sahir's poem.

    Please see part IV

  • Part II

In my student life (at the age of 18/19), we friends used to sit in a restaurant/tea house. The radio or gramophone record, some times, played this song, usually in Lata version. I got so much absored in it that I begged others "not even to sigh" during this song. One of our somewhat elderly friends often got iritated. Not because I requested the group to be silent, but because he lamented that my taste for music was appaling, worthless, and disappointing.

    Please see Part 3

  • Yes, go ahead and thumb down the above comment too. I know you intolerant asses will.

  • So, just because I have an opinion I get two thumbs down?

All I said was that for whatever reason, I like Rafi's version better. How that statement translates to "Rafi was better than Lata" or that I am a male chauvinist, I do no know. I never compared them both...all I said was that I, for my listening, prefer Rafi's version of this song.

Sigh...talk about being tolerant and letting people have opinions.

  • Dear bhiiisham,

I appreciate your comments very much, and above all, the statement that you have an opinion and you have a right to have it. I do not know how to do thum up, or thum down. But, I do certainly appreciate your stand, and your opinion.

In discussions about some other videos, some one very rightly pointed out that, in most cases, these are male songs which, due to the story, the female person has to repeat. There are natural limitations to it.

    Please see Part II

  • What a beuatiful woman was sadhana.

  • In sangeet we only talk sangeet. Please dont bring religion into this.

  • Heavenly song!

  • Lata's impeccable Urdu pronunciation...

Indeed. Nobody I have ever heard coming close to her-- in correctness or in style!

  • she may have n i repeat may hav been th best among the female's but no one but no one ever came even close to Rafi sahab, th best among all singers!!

  • @zorajabeen I wonder your opinion would have been the same if Lata Mangeshkar was muslim!!!! and it happens with a lot of human beings. Our judgement always gets colored with religion, language, nationality, race etc. Best is not to pass judgements but enjoy the good piece of art.

  • A man can only make such kind of comment for sure. T hey suffer from this disease from birth called male chauvenitis......................have you heard khushi -khushi kar lo vida.

listen to that song....then you will know which occasion makes them cry...............marriage to a nasty male

  • Who is that nasty male you are married to?

    (or perhaps skipped getting married?)

  • BTW, there are lots of better examples of sad songs sung by Lata (many of them picturized on Nimmi.

  • i do agree with the dude who says that rafi's singing was better .. unfortunately women .. and that also means lata cant have what we call dard in their voice.. thats only a mans thing lol .. i guess women are more used to giving dard to men lol hence men have dard in their voice..i havent come across any song sung by a woman that made me cry because of her voice .. please correct me if i am wrong and let me know the song

  • The dard comment "haha" well said. But yae ; I do agree with what you said! I just hope people would understand.

  • perfect

  • @abrarlovesvideos listen to "Bedardi balma tujhko" or "ek tu na mila"

  • Also, Lata and Rafi both being the BEST, I am sure they can easily copy each other and sing EXACTLY alike but that will be more of a mimicry and will not suit the movie scene. Male singing has slight machoism (Rafi's style of singing) whereas Lata's has a female's delicacy, shyness etc, which is required for a female.

  • People often wrongly compare the same song sung by Rafi and Lata like this one, or Ahsaan tera...What we need to understand is that these songs were originally made for the MALE actor in the movie and hence the female is asked to sing it very plainly because she is just repeating it...So if Lata copy's Rafi's style that will sound ridiculous like a female singing in male style. Similarly Rafi cannot sing Rasik Balma or Sharma aati hai magar made for Lata and copy her style.

  • Sadna is simply beautiful. Song well both are goood . So just enjoy.

  • simply second best to rafi shaib, lata great as usual,,

  • Dil Ki Dhadkan Tujhe Awaaz Deye Jaati Hei....! <3

  • she zo prewtty

  • Rafi sahab's Version is far superior...

Lata is best among females no doubt...

But Rafi is the Ultimate :)

  • Obviously, opinion of Iqbal Khan. We won't expect anything different.

  • racist. u . bigtime.

  • Well guys no need to go hyper...

Lata is no doubt the best female singer in bollywood and she has sung this song beautifully, however this version pales in front of the Male version sung by Mohammed Rafi. i guess majority of the people here will agree with that.

  • goog songs

  • Everlasting song sung beautifully by lata ji. For some reason, I find that there is more emotion and subtleties in Rafi sahib's version. Does anyone agree?

  • I love this song very much. I agree

  • Absolutely right

  • @shivisidhu Yes I agree.....Rafi is known for this song....But Lata Gee remains my all time favourite.

  • @shivisidhu That's true. They both are the best but this song is more emotional in Rafi sahib's version. I agree.

  • @shivisidhu

Both Lata and Rafi saab are the ultimate definition of legend. I agree that Rafi saab has poured lot more emotion to the song.. but lata's voice is so awesome that even if she doesn't puts any emotion to the song still she will sound awesome. But that's not the case.. Lata has poured the right amount of emotion into every song she sung creating magic and we are still under her spell. So did Rafi saab. I was as dedicated and professional in my field as they were in the music.

  • Absolute best...

  • Lata you are the best förever !

  • my mum loves this song

  • love each word of this song which come from heart !

  • a beautiful composition. and so beautifully sung by Lata Mangeshkar

  • wah wah! better than rafi's.

  • Well I used to listen to Rafi sahib this song. When I listened to this song by Lata with attention I am totally struck!! I thought what Rafi sahib sung could no one sung. But Lata ji is Lata. Perfect is a small work, she is unsurpassable in the history of Gayeki. This is how history is made!

  • I think this one suited Rafi saab more :)

  • yes i too think so

  • lata dunyada tekdir .tekrarsiz sese malikdir. hem ifa etdiyi mahni hemdeki musigi chox qozeldir.bir sozle hindistanin musigi tanrisi. / zenfira / 22.10.08/21.54/

  • LATA AT HER BEST

  • ilove this song!!!

  • Excellent
