  • A noise gate would work well in giving your tone much more punch, i agree with Shazuku. Other than that its all about tone and technique though. Rock on!! :)

  • You can play it better than I can, so props to you for not being half bad at it! Keep working at it and you'll probably kick Misha's ass \m/

  • its good but the individual techniques need a bit more work i rekon like 30 hours or so more practice and you will nail this

  • you just need to work on timing and hitting your notes right on

  • people that don't play guitar will never get even the tip of the level this song is on ... and has it going on on many levels ...

  • I wish I could have afforded a Petrucci signature when I was 12. Haha, Good stuff!

  • anyone who thumbs this down does not know how many attempts it actually takes to get certain things right... let alone playing the whole thing beginning to end... great job!

  • @crankycactus nicely said plus i think the noise gate was a lil bit to high.

  • @carnicerodeperros It doesn't sound like there's a gate on there at all lol

  • I honestly think Adding a bass guitar to your cover would improve it a lot.

  • Good job

  • I think you're playing it pretty well, just a little messy, but it is a really tough song. good job.

  • Your getting the notes right for the most part, just a bit sloppy. Not saying you haven't already but best advice I could give you is to go through each section very slowly and build up speed as you practice so you can do each part flawlessly.

  • Great technique. I do think the tone should be smoother with better dynamic response.

  • Why are there so many dislikes for this video? This chick is a lot better than most guitar players

  • tighten it up, and work on dat tone ;) tube screamers!!!

  • You're perfect <3 I cant even play this song.

  • That's an awesome guitar, tried it at NAMM.....good playing :)

  • What a great song!

I love it my favourite from P

    you did it just great!

hope to see other covers in the future!

    Keep on!

    Cheers!

  • girls should never play djent. fuck this

  • Nice try keep practicing pretty tuff song

  • woooww this is fucking brill

  • You should work on the sound and precision, especially sound. To get this djenty Periphery tone you need to rise the mids and gate the whole thing.

You can find a lot of instructional videos on how to get this kind of sound.

I am currently working on this song as well but its no good at all right now, so cudos for getting it this well.

  • nobody admires you just because you are able to memorize a progressive piece

your technique and sound is horrible !

dont treat the guitar as if it was made of porcelain

    get the notes correctly

  • @Ji0X nobody admires you because you are a fretboard wanker. Symphony X sucks.

  • @Ji0X actually got it, but....

    isn't the main question...

    why isn't she in kitchen??

    cheers!

  • That poor Jp50

  • cool !!!!!

  • well this song is pretty badass, i also play guitar and im afraid to try to learn it ahah, so good job! it's not perfect but it's a very nice try, and practising will make it perfect i believe :) i don't know what to tell you to do better, just i think some practising on the tapping riffs, you know... but still you impressed me. :) check my covers if you want to, i have no djent stuff but i'm think about it, anyways good job on this! btw, what program are you using for virtual drums?

  • i noticed that this type of music requires Precision (especially right hand) and the right Tone. You know what to do, I think you could master it after some muscle-memory and tone searching! Take my feedback with a grain of salt though, I've only learned the first riff xD

  • Why is everyone complaining?! This is freaking amazing e.e

  • I like it :)

  • In my honest opinion, really messy.. Your picking and tapping needs alot of work! You need to practice those two things alot to gain a better clarity in your tone. Its all practice, practice, practice. Although you have all the notes together which is great. Just work on those basic things. I once was exactly like you but it all comes over time. And did you learn tis by ear? thatd be interesting lol, good luck to you!! (;

  • Your making me wanna kill myself lol

  • Who the hell can make a JP Music Man sound so bad? (well this girl obviously..)

  • where did you get tabsfor this!?!?

  • @cRaZyBOI171

How about Ultimate-Guitar? And there they are correct unlike what this girl had.

  • thats a killer musicman, john petrucci would be proud that you bought it. you man want to work on this song a bit more tho, liek be alot mroe cleaner and precise for starters.

  • good effort. idk why ppl be trolling this.

  • good job, that song must hvae been killer to leran

  • Aside from the tone this is actually a good cover. Some of the the parts could be cleaned up a little, but pretty good for such a hard song.

  • Periphery is hard to cover, so I give you props, work on it and try again. (:

  • yayay for trying to play periphery song! pretty hard to tackle. keep it up! you're awesome!

  • i must say i'm quite impressed.

but how do your fingers not bleed from doing those tap slides (the bit starting at 0:50)? it looks so painful :O

  • holy **** a musicman :'D anyways lol at everyone saying she's terrible. It's her tone thats making it awful....anywyas the cover was pretty solid except your rhythm is off around 3:50 (took me a while too get it as well haha).

  • Better than everybody else is doing...

*looks at half the commenters videos*

    lol.

  • i dont think its as messy as it sounds, its just your tone otherwise your technique looks fine. what did u use to get your tone?

  • @TrippyTro My amp is broken, so I used podfarm without any expansion packs or anything like that. I really don't know what I'm doing with podfarm unless it's creating jazz tones haha. It's pretty apparent.

  • @emilyrosenfield completely off topic but im selling an amp if your interested.

its a line 6 flextone III. great for recording or jamming but idk if u play live and it might not be that well suited. pm me if ur interested at all or want more info

    keep up the good work!

  • @emilyrosenfield yt search djent tone pod farm its a good start point

  • @emilyrosenfield You did good. haters gonna hate.

  • @emilyrosenfield Misha uses 1-3 of noise gates maybe you should get one of them if you want the guitar to sound like the actual song.

  • you win attractive points!

  • i think your tone might be throwing you off because its a little muddy and cuts out a bit at times. a little more practice on syncing the right and left hand coordination would help. other than that, you'd have it down :D

  • i dont think its bad its just a bit messy thats all i liked

  • Nice try but that is the worst tone I've ever heard out of any Petrucci line.

  • dont know why theres so much hate, this songs hard as fuckin dick! i think you did great :D

  • Try using some more bettr tone or pickups :?

  • @purnal lol not the pick ups dude, petrucci pickups are fantastic

  • lol that was good, thanks!

  • at some points your notes are not that clear, but wtf you played the song like a baws! good job!

  • work on your alternate picking. if you don't alternate pick on some of those runs the notes won't ring out the same giving it an inconsistent sound.

  • @viper1991 Misha himself doesnt alternate pick, hes said it numerous times!

  • @IcarusCinematics I realize that, but misha's tone is a lottt different than hers. also it's a good habit to get into good strict alternate picking since encourages note accuracy and precision.

  • @viper1991 yes of course of course, i just wanted to point that out!

  • this song is beast technical!!!!! WOW great job. Periphery rules. Absolutely love how you come out of that awesome tapping riff and slam that djent tone through my face. @ 2:45

  • "at least justify your comments by proving that you can actually play."

U serious? It sounds sloppy as hell. But I guess it's the tone/noise gate for 90%. You could actually work on that. Good job tho.

  • Молодец, так держать

  • Not what I listen to, but you're better than I am

  • amazing cover, amazing guitar. but you should put a ts-9 pedal or something in front of your amp or recording device so you get more sustain.

  • i think your noise gates might be set to high, playing was good but fix the tone.

  • accurate cover, but if i may make a suggestion (my videos don't apply this because i started studying sound engineering after making the videos), your tone sounds a little dry, so here are some basic Treble, High Mid, Low Mid, Bass frequencies that work well for me

    Gain Freq

    1.6db 50 hz

    1.1db 240hz

    5.1db 1.4kHz

    -12.7db 9.3kHz

  • This was awesome. I noticed on your tapping it cut out, so perhaps apply more pressure so it won't cut out.

  • work on palm muting and getting more of a sound out of your tapping.

  • nice guitar :O

  • Cool! You'll be a great guitarist.

  • Nice try bro. Shame videos like "15 year old shreds" gets lots of views, or ppl like Jacqueline get as much recognition for wearing a tiara and a skirt and playing sloppu, i can't believe that she got sponsored while people that are trying to better themselves aren't as recognized.

At least she tried. What have you done? Go play your pentatonic blues scale somewhere else.

  • This is really good! This song is really hard and you're doing lots of it super well. My suggestion is to take the parts you're having trouble with and play them suuuper slow with a metronome. Once they're 100% perfect at like, 8th note = 60 BPM, bring them up to speed little by little. Play them a couple times at each click. At the faster tempos, just remember to relax and muscle memory will do the rest. Repetition is everything! Good luck and keep playing despite the jerks on the internet! :)

  • All in all, great cover. You're on time with each part, which in my opinion, is the most difficult part of Periphery songs. I've been trying to learn this song for a while. I can't get passed the clean tapping section, so props to that. The only thing you should work on is cleaning up your right hand movement. It seems your strumming multiple strings on single notes. It'll come with practice, obviously. The only thing i'd work on passed that is your tone. Hope this helps. Keep Playing.

  • Who are all these no playing mongoloid f*(ktards that are picking on a young girl trying to play? Link me your video where you play it better please. GET A LIFE MAN!

Emily- let these comments motivate you to keep practicing, improving technique, and playing cleaner. Take the sh!theads with a grain of salt and take advice from people trying to help you all the way to the bank. You have to start somewhere with gear, use what you have to trade up when you save some $ up and you will be fine!.

  • @axisalexander I agree with your comment up until "use what you have then trade up" she has a jp6 what the hell could you possibly want to trade up to? haha unless you're talking about the tone but I'm guessing it's just a direct plug in with a crappy interface on her computer...but if it isn't i would definitely invest in a new amp lol

  • the song is really hard... just attempting to play this song in its entirety gets my respect...

  • they see me trollin', no vids mfw

  • technique before speed...get out the metronome, slow it down until you can play it cleanly then increase the tempo incrementally until you can play at the full song tempo cleanly. When you try and play fast without the technique you can develop sloppy playing habits which can be hard to correct.

  • Your tone is poo.

  • yeah you need to crank up the bass or perhaps its your recording stuff?

  • keep practicing

  • Your tone sucks REALLY bad, and it was quite sloppy.

  • No offence, but what the fuck are you doing with a jp6. O.O

  • Yes it's really sloppy, but that isnt the real problem, with couple months of practice that problem will be solved. But even if you played it perfectly, with that kind of tone it would still not be interesting to watch. Work alot on that first, It probably isn't very motivating to play with that kind of tone, haha. It isn't very expensive to get a decent (decent, not top) tone anyway.

  • good try

  • you need a better guitar

  • @SkelpYourHead that's a jp. keep trying

  • You don't deserve to own that guitar.

  • respect for playing a periphery tune! They aren't straight forward, bit of work to go from what i saw, but fairplay! great keep it up! :)

  • I want your guitar. Not the cleanest cover, but probably better than I could do. If I even had the guts to put anything on youtube (Might if I ever get a 6 string). Keep it up!

  • Good attempt. Word of warning: those pickups will pickup(harhar) ANYTHING and really shows your playing for what it is, a tad not tight :P. Especially if thats a Crunch Lab/Liquifire combo. It's not just you, my other guitarist had issues with them as well :P

Take each riff, pick them apart, play them starting at a snails pace and work your way up. Not only will your playing of this song improve immensely, your overall technique will improve without you even realizing it!

  • I really enjoyed the cover Emily! I just think you have to tighten it up. Keep it up!

  • I would have practised that for a few more weeks before posting this in the internet. watch out for trolls = ) good luck!

  • You rock Emily! Awww man I noticed you posted a new vid of you live but it is private :(

  • So what if it's sloppy, just keep on practicing and you'll nail it in no time. Fuck these trolls, just keep on rocking. :))

  • I dont understand what is this all bashing? I bet that half of you cant even play as good as this girl does. Just grow up or stop trolling if you have nothing to say. Life is always learning for all of us. Emily keep that attitude and keep on playing.

  • Oh, and also, tone!

  • You've obviously got chops, and clearly know how to play, especially the chords and runs. It's just mostly the legato/tapping that sounds really broken up and staccato. And of course, that being the main part of the song, people are going to troll.

But yah, as others had said, economy of motion should help, and just focus on letting the notes ring out so they sound like they're blending together rather than standing apart.

  • "This sucks", and. "This is terrible". Just kidding.

This is a rather hard song to play and such. You have an idea how it goes All you need is to do is practice. Good luck.

  • Better than I can do haha. Check me out :D

  • Okay. So another young girl can shred a guitar. Ho-hum...lol. Just kidding though. Your skills are impressive. However, I just study bass so this is purely an unprofessional opinion! Keep it up, though!:):):)

  • you have talent, practice more and you'll kick ass soon :P

  • Keep up the good work. Always inspiring to see younger musicians take their art seriously

  • Would you be able to send me the drum tracks for this? that'd be awesome!

  • so there are some jerks on here.. but i mean to be honest im just impressed that you recorded this with just guitar & drums.. most people covering a song like this don't have the balls to do it without playing the original song louder than their own instrument to cover up the mistakes..

for advice.. id just say to slowwww down =)

the tone isnt the best.. but you've got a nice guitar! maybe change the strings and get it set up again? anyway.. keep at it.. practice the tapping stuff real slow!

  • Cool joke.

  • This is not very good.

  • Ok you can play the song, but its sloppy as hell. No way periphery would want you in their band, your horrible at this song...im sorry, go practice more before u upload next time.

  • Good work!

Sure it's a bit sloppy, BUT! it's a really difficult song, Even if sloppy, it takes a great amount of skill and practice to play this song! :)

And as with everything else, practice makes perfect! Keep working on your skills and repost the video later maybe so you can laugh at all the bastards who are bad-mouthing your video

Keep up the good work and good luck! :)

  • Keep practicing. Remember accuracy should always come before speed.

  • Oh and keep playing, the more you play the better you get! I liked it!

  • What a bunch of total assholes. I am disappointed in every single one of you shitheads. The girl likes Periphery and if she wants to play it and make a vid of it then that is up to her. I think she did an admirable job dispite it not being perfect. Keep doing what you're doing Em. Don't listen to these a-holes.

  • You suck at playing, so you should stick with just sucking

  • nice guitar and im glad to see a girl who likes periphery! one thing that would make the video way better is if you could improve ur guitar tone.

  • Wow, guys, she is trolling you, don1t you see it? hahah lol

  • @WGSen I quote that!

  • @WGSen Hi friend, I'm glad you feel empowered by your anonymity. Enjoy your power trip while it lasts, because one day you will realize that putting people down to compensate for your own insecurities (whatever they may be) is counterproductive. I don't understand the need to comment negatively- is the intent to hurt or belittle me? I would seriously love to know from a psychological standpoint if nothing else. Hopefully one day you'll realize that we are one. Unconditional love nonetheless <3

  • @emilyrosenfield If you're proud of work that is sub-par, that is your problem. Practice, then come back to the internet. It wasn't good, live with it.

  • @emilyrosenfield i would say you have a very solid grasp on what it takes to be accountable for your art, which the naysayers rarely ever attempt.

as far as constructive criticism, i'd say that for the main riff, that legatoish section [not the octave play section] you may benefit from what they call 'economy of motion.' it LOOKS as if you're hitting the notes slightly behind the beat because your fingers are moving relatively far from the frets and have to come back. ...

  • @intrepgun man, 500 characters isn't much for constructive, now is it? maybe that's why people are such brutish fuckwads on youtube comment threads. to be concise and constructive, you have to take time, which youtube is mostly meant to waste. so it's easier for them to just go 'dis sux0rz u ghey' and then go play with themselves for a few minutes.

but yeah, economy of motion is helpful in all things. it makes your movements more deliberate and calculated but will feel second nature.

  • @emilyrosenfield Well said Emily! I wish people weren't so cruel and loved more.

  • @emilyrosenfield nah it's just a fellow troll here :) love youuuu <3

  • @emilyrosenfield is it your turn to deflect now?

  • @WGSen i checked your profile. it says you fuckin blow. :D

  • A little sloppy but good work :D

  • @emilyrosenfield Awesome effort! You're well on your way to having this song nailed. One thing I do that might help you to clean up some of those parts is to play them 1/2 to 3/4 speed but I force myself to let each note ring all the way until the next note is played with no transition time between, then slowly bring it up to full tempo. You'll find that you'll be able to better articulate faster passages because you're devoting less time to position change and more time to note sustain.

  • This is the best cover on youtube! Keep at it girlie!

  • that guitar is sexy :D

    JP6 ftw

  • sadly, this is still way better than i can play it.

  • Not going to lie, whether or not its as tight as the band does it, i was impressed. i wish i knew how to play this damn song - those riffs are fucking HARD, with a little practice you'd have it perfectly - seriously, keep working at it and you're gonna be solid.

  • At like 1:00, it looks like you're tapping with the pad of your finger. Use the tip.

  • This is just how it sounds without the axe-fx! It's all she needs and she'll be good to go for the upcoming tour. goodluck!

  • Every loser on the internet is a fucking critic. Even getting through this song is more work than 90% of guitarists out there would attempt, so keep working it up and fuck the haters, they just thrive off the feeling of mild superiority that youtube bashing is good for.

  • just give me that john petrucci guitar, ill take good care of it, thank you.

  • Please no... just no.

  • we all know this isn't perfect, but hey, you're still better than me! CHEERS TO THAT!

  • Try to play slowly and clean and then speed up. This way you´ll sound less sloppy.

  • i dont have a problem with this just more alternate picking (: its like the best thing a person can do haha

  • you guys that are asking where the drum track came from clearly didn't listen to the drum track... I don't think the drum stem would be played solely on the hi hat. U GITTIN TROLED

  • Yea I agree with 6EELZE6U6666. Not even close to keeping up with Misha. Try slowing down and work on making the notes sound absolutely PERFECT then speed it up. It seems like you jumped right into it. The rhythm seems to be pretty much spot on. Just work on getting the notes to sound good and you'll be straight

  • So fucking sloppy.

  • @brothercartman Your mom's blowjob was sloppy.

  • You're hitting the right notes, but besides that its not that good to be honest. I can hear so many mutes.

  • How did you get the isolated drum tracks?? I'd love to know!

  • @BennyVengeance888 Periphery needed a fourth guitarist because their new album has so many parts, and they called me up to join. Matt sent me all of the drum stems so I could practice and really solidify my parts. Everything is still coming along, but I should be all set in time for the Periphery/Dream Theater tour in February! Thanks for watching!

  • @emilyrosenfield Wow, that's incredible!! I wish you all the best with that! Im guessing there'd be no way you could send me some, no? Im a drummer and would love them to learn them/practice with them! But if it's strictly Periphery based business, i understand. :)

  • @emilyrosenfield haha wait is that really true?! Sorry but that sounds like a lie, I mean if that's true why have you been sent the drum stems to this song and you're playing a guitar track that is already covered live? I'm not saying you're a bad guitarist but this is nowhere near the standard of Periphery, I mean no disrespect it's just how it apears to me.

  • @6EELZE6U6666 I hope its a lie...to be honest...

  • @6EELZE6U6666 haha i'm pretty sure this is totally a lie.

  • @6EELZE6U6666 Dude you're an idiot. Sorry.

  • @6EELZE6U6666 Dude you're an idiot. Sorry.

  • @emilyrosenfield lol what the fuck is wrong with you

  • @emilyrosenfield "Misha Mansoor Haha thats Emily, shes a friend of ours and she is trolling all you kiddies" Why you gotta troll?

  • @emilyrosenfield lololololololololololol

    .

    lololololololololyoureashiteplayerandaworsetrolllolololol

  • @emilyrosenfield any need to lie ? lol dont get me wrong i appreciate the fact your learning there tunes and what not and there great to learn practice and get better , but to say your joining periphery when your no were near there standard of playing/tightness etc is a bit stupid dont you think? lol people will read what your saying and overlook your attempts at playing cos your lieing , if you wanna have people give you proper feedback , i suggest ya stop :) not gonna get you anywere at all

  • @emilyrosenfield Your trolling abilities are quite great.

  • @emilyrosenfield JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA,so are you just an atention whore or your being sarcastic?

  • @emilyrosenfield LOL okay, is that why they have Mark from Haunted Shores now? lulz And you're playing a part one of the guitarist (probably Misha) play live. Nice try though

  • Comment removed

  • @emilyrosenfield Uh. These aren't even the actual drum tracks. Lying gets you nowhere in life sweetie. You aren't even CLOSE to Periphery's standards. I about threw up while watching this.

  • bam.
