I have had this song stuck in my head for 30yrs, and do u think I could find it till now!!!!! All i remembered was "I got body, I got soul" and nothing else, loved this song!!!
thanks nzoz, what a classic lost gem,, i used to live in Lower Fort streetr Millers Point where this pub is and it WAS just as in the clip then in the early 2000;s,,
I haven't seen the movie in its entirety yet: why does Jackie (Jo Kennedy) move away when the guy standing on the table with her leans in? I don't think he was going to kiss her, but was that part of the storyline: that he wanted her?
Strewth the Harbour View is one of my fave pubs, always enjoy a schooner looking out the front window while admiring the coathanger. But this pox ridden video clip is another matter I really have to look up a thesaurus to find a word that describes "beyond lame" .
The only redeeming feature of the film Starstruck is that Lucky Grills makes a cameo apperaence as a beer truck driver.
STARSTRUCK is a charming, hilarious, colorful and life-affirming musical- one of the finest films ever. The music's great,Jo Kennedy is adorable and vivacious and the entire cast is well-cast and wonderful. The super-happy ending never fails to choke me up. Anyone who hates this movie needs to consult a doctor about the gaping hole they have where a heart is supposed to go...
@vonsmitty1313 I totally agree with you about this movie. I watched it over and over as a kid growing up in the 80's and I even found the vinyl LP when a few years later which I played over and over. Not too many other black kids in my neighborhood really got it lol. Its the best! I get choked up too lol.
I saw this film again on Fox last night. I was in acting school when it came out and David Atkins was my choreographer (who did the choreography) at the time. I know some people in it and it was the first (and last) role for some of them. It's hilarious seeing it again, and those fashions!!!
I was at the Harbour View last Saturday arvo - had lunch there. Where the tiled harbour bridge pic was now stands a bookshelf and an LCD TV. But the exterior with the old Tooth KB (whatever happened to KB?) signs are still intact.
Again, thanks so much for this clip. not only is it a terrific film, it's great that it was such a departure for Gillian Armstrong who directed it. FANTASTIC, thanks so much for posting!
@zaniac100 oh yes, that's right... i completely forgot about that... kiwis often complain that i include their bands on my channels and hate the idea that i link Australia and New Zealand together... but really... what would the Australian music scene be without those wonderful Kiwi bands/artists. Without Split Enz, Dragon, Swingers, Sharon O'Neill, it'd be much less of a scene...
Grew up watching this as kid ... awesome ..

The pub in the movie is the Harbour View in the Rocks. Love the movie, watch out for a young Geoffrey Rush as a stagehand near the end. Classic!!!

Just cringe when I see or hear this movie/song.
I saw it on ABC's Rage and just felt sick.
I remember back in 1982 how did these Bogans get funding for this trash.
Absolute crap...

Wait sec... I feel a turd coming on. No, wait, it's actually this movie.
It's like sitting through a musical version of a Nazi propaganda film from the 40's (with the exception that the Nazis were better dancers).

Yup, she actually did sing all her stuff. I think everyone in the movie did.
My favorite character is, of course, Nana. I've completely lost track of how many times I've seen the movie or heard the soundtrack since 1982.

The actor is Jo Kennedy , and YES it is actually her singing

I think part of 'Stone' was filmed there too, glad the place is still there, too many old city pubs get knocked over these days.

It's not a video, it's a film clip. I don't know if that makes it appear better in your eyes, but there ya go.

lol, i totally agree. this is probably one of the worst of Australian pop of the 80's.
nzoz1982 4 years ago
added... this is infact written by Tim Finn, who, of course, is a kiwi. this song wasn't so bad when it was done by Split Enz.
nzoz1982 4 years ago
The Split Enz Recording is a MASTERPIECE! Especially the Luton version.

@nzoz1982 Well usually they are linked because it is the New Zealanders themselves who *choose* to relocate to Australia.
