These Cuties broke my Heart when I seen them at the Apollo in 64 with the Motown Revue, Could not do nothing but watch and try to look under their dress from the 5th row out. Next year they seemed old as the Hills,so I had to find some new girley singers to fantasize on.
i love this song, and bring so much memories, i used to sing this song all the time, when my mother plays this song, now when i hears it it opened up my spirits and bring tears in my eyes,
You have no idea how happy you have made me! My mother used to sing this song all the time. This makes me smile and takes me back to great memories and good times growing up. Thank you so much for this song.
Martha has one of the most soul touching voices I have ever heard. Just ;listen to how she makes those transitions I could listen to this song ten times in a row. The first time I heard it, I was stationed NW of Seattle Wash., which was a long way from home for me at the time. Being from the east coast.:)
B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! That's all you can say. ... If you weren't in love, this song made you want to run right out and fall in love: just so you could experience the emotions that Martha was singing about. SPECTACULAR!
My baby loves me and needs me and I need and love her. From being a dog (pitbull) in the past to turning my life around (all credit goes to the Holy Spirit of God) given by those who love and obey Jesus Christ, is the ONLY way I can love this woman who is now my special lady, my sweet thing, my partner and friend for life-my wife. She is my heatwave. Before I thought lust was love, but now I know enduring, overcoming relationship IS love. People find real, authentic love, be one-on-one.
One of the most beautiful songs ever! On the fhe flip side of the 45 was a song called "i'm still waiting" . Does anybody have it? Really would like to find it!!!
I used to know how to play this tune on the piano and my sister would sing the lyrics. That was back in the 60's. Never did master the modulation @2:02 though, but I really enjoyed playing that song staying in the same key. Thanks for posting.
OK I quit hands down I was born at the right time,I wouldn't trade this for the world and gold .I'll hold on to the pecious memories, thanks for the posting.
the music business today should be like other companies and make these tired artist get a musical diploma and be forced to listen and do reports on songs like this
Dancing the "bop" to this at a "quarter party" on the Chicago's south side the summer of '66 with a truly fine sister. That's where this jam takes me every time I here it.
Songs like this one makes me wished I lived in the '60s and '70s. I agree when my mom and aunts tell me music back then was fun to listen and to dance too. Me being born in November 1980, at least I got to enjoy the 80s and early 90s. Music back then is so much better than these unoriginal crap of today, old school FTW!
Martha is on record calling this her favorite of all her recordings, and little wonder why. Her performance is a tasteful expression of the spiritual and sexual contentment present when love at its fresh, initiatory stage. Like so many Motown songs, it takes me right back to where I was when it new. Released January 4, 1966, I was in 6th grade, it likely was the first new record I bought that year, and I remember trudging along shopping with my mom in a hell of a blizzard that hit Philadelphia.
i was nine;) I remember singing this song climbing the stairs, walking the dog, you name it , don't talk about Jimmy Mack, My Baby Loves Me, wow I just knew i could sing. Beautiful exuberant talent. Sisters were getting it on! The songs are truly meaningful now, I know what I'm singing about
@dvlaries A beautiful song....I saw Martha sing it live in 2001.... she brought the house DOWN !!! I'm a bit older than you I was in the 10th grade in 1966 and had this mad teenage crush on this "fine" girl from the German town section of Philly :) This song brings back many fond thoughts.
We use to call Martha "the girl with the pipes" back in the early 60s. She was a good friend of my oldest sister while they were going to Northeastern High.
This is a great flashback for an old guy who can remember when the song was originally released. I was interested to read the discussion about the identity of the Vandellas on this track. During the sixties, there were 14 combinations of background singers for Martha--at least in the studio, including Marvin Gaye, who's on "Dancing in the Street." Both Martha & the Vandellas and the Supremes sang backup for him before the Andantes took over.
yeah..those satudays when it was house cleaning times..and your mom would play this record...thanks for a child growing up in the 60's with this music!!!!
Funny, this was put out here on my 50th birthday & this is one of my favorites by Martha & the Vandellas---I had no idea at the time this came out that those would be the good old days, but they most certainly were...
i love everything martha and the vandellas put out, and it was before my time. but it stayed playing in the 70's- 80's in my house as mom cleaned up after us. THANKS MOM!
That's so funny! I just got a tear in my eye thinking of how my mom played this all the time when we were little (in the late 70's and 80's)...what memories!
One of my all time favorites. This brings back my 7th grade year when I was in love John A. What great memories!! It's wonderful to remember a better time. Thanks for posting this song.
Hey Sy, don't forget about James Jamerson one the guitar, he was the best according to Joe Hunter ,who just happened to be our church pianist during the 80's , I really miss Joe , He was such a great guy, RIP Joe
After the movie came out, I saw the original funk brothers in concert before everyone started to pass away. Joe, was a fanstastic brother telling old Motown stories, and playing the music, I miss him and the rest of the Funk Brothers who have passed on immensely.
P.S. Never forget the incomparable Mr. James Jamerson, can here that bass intro now.
