Many many years ago (in the seventies) he was in the Netherlands in Utrecht. It was a spectacular performance. Very great talent. And... he was a very handsome boy.
How old was Boris Belkin here, Machteld? Seems that at his age he is a serious competitor of all the great violinists. Profound and outrageous! Surely a living master around all those today.
James Ehnes? Sure, he is good, but do you have any idea who you're comparing?! This is Boris Belkin... if you cannot see it yourself I don't think I can help you. It's almost sacreligious to compare him to any violinist still alive..
Now he is playing a Guadagnini one of the latest violins ,the violin is looking like a Strad but is not.I know because I just play with him 2 weeks ago.
I saw this on TV when I was a child and since then Tchaikovsky has been my fovourite vc. Love his playing! Does anybody know if he plays a Guarnieri or a Strad?
Brilliant!!! Stradivarius?

The 1st movement starts actuallly 10 minutes prior to this clip, so dont confuse yourself, the concerto last actually for over 40 minutes...

Avvolgente, meraviglioso, grandissimo. Da anni seguo i suoi concerti. E' sempre uno dei più grandi violinisti viventi.

Is he a tad bit flat at 2:28? You can see the guy over his right shoulder smile and raise an eyebrow as if he was saying "hmmm"..

He looks like he just walked right out of the 18th Century :) Great performance!

I like Belkin's sound, full of power but not rude at all. His another video of Prokofieff is perfect.

25 years from now you will see what I mean.

This was the first violinist I saw live, I think he is great but James Ehnes is better.

still alive? I attended a masterclass some years ago, is he already dead? can anyone tell me, please?
stellaformusik 3 years ago
of course he's still alive! :) I just meant that nobody from the violinists of our time (i.e. still alive) can be compared with him..
geraldopus 3 years ago
oh! ok! thanx for the explanation :)I was surprised at thinking that he could be dead, as I hadn't heard about it. Anyway... :)

He plays very poetic,I love his interpretation more than all those great violinists.Christian Feras is also fantastic.
