  • ... so funny- you can see the great pleasure they have making such good music....I love it at all!!

  • 0:29 Tony Butler looks like he's pullin' his goalie :)

    Awsome band.

  • music= great but dancing=shite, sorry guys!

  • they are accomplished musicans. Different from the usual New Romantic bands of their time who had simiple chords

  • この曲のプロモビデオは初めて見ました。アップしてくれて有難う!Thanks!!!

  • I love Breeks!

  • Tee hee - I love that dance Mr. Adamson does starting at 03:11. This is one crazy video - not bad, just strange.

  • watching Big Country makes me proud to be Scottish!!!!!

  • You have every right to be a proud Scott, my wife is a Scot. But most of BC were born in England mate. Awsome, wherever they come from......Apart from America of course.

  • kick ass...nuf said

  • i love stuart adamson his voice, awesome

  • thats military drums..tribal..perfect for war..coupled with HIGHLAND pipes...we win,,,germans called them LADIES FROM HELL.....good complement from them,,,no slouches in a fight themselves

  • drummer is a badass....

  • This is a butchered version of the studio cut. In the studio version they have a KILLER guitar inter around the 1:40 mark. I will try to post the orig from my CD so you can all enjoy this killer classic.

  • this song is so awesome. i thought my friend was gay for liking this band at first but i was gay for doubting their epic awesomeness

  • This is the only studio recording of this song I could find on youtube. Lots of live performances, though.

If y'all want to hear some good big country, look up the live version of Eleanor Rigby.

  • That Eleanor Rigby version by Big Country is awesome - imo better than the original!!!

  • The name of the live album Eleanor Rigby is on is called Eclectic. It's awesome. Buy It! (13 year old)

  • Wow, that's pretty awesome that you're so young and a Big Country fan. Congrats on your great taste- they were an incredible band.

  • molto bello

  • UTAHWRX,

THANK YOU for posting this ! BC was a unique band ahead of their time, especially when you consider the boatloads of trash produced in the '80s. Out of all their songs, this probably has the most profound and thoughtful lyrics. RIP Stuart, rock on.

  • the words and music mean so much to me.

    God bless, Stuart. Let's Rock!

  • 25 years ago today my first concert!!

    rip stuart

  • saw em a few times 1983

their gigs had a special atmosphere for sure

  • I remember these great songs, but did forget the videos when men would wear capri pants LOL oh well. Shame the lead singer killed himself I miss the 80's I know I know but it was fun to be young.

  • tears for fears were given the day off at the 'excrutiating dancing' factory..

  • proper legends!

tehy remind me of talking heads,

which is always a good thing.

  • Classic song! This is one of my favorites! Thanks for sharing!

  • all their songs ended up sounding the same....that guitar!

  • unlike todays chameleon like bands....BC found an amazing sound and stuck to it. That's what made them great!

  • Yeah. Back then we had Big Country, Adam and the Ants, and a ton of other bands that sounded nothing like one another. Now you have tons of "alternative" bands that are just as interchangeable as the 80's pop metal hair bands.

  • what happened to the pork pie? great dancin at the end though, not to mention the radishes. who directed this shit? they should be shot.

  • Class, as people seem to be showing their age, I'm 46. This is still glorious. RIP Stuart. X.

  • Mikekingphoto, looked at your favourites, those TV programmes brought back some memories, I loved all those back then, Daktari, skippy, etc. where did the years go? Thanks anyway for the great memories, didn't know all this was on YouTube (same age as you obviously). Love this song and Big Country, shame about the video.

  • doesnt stuart adamson look a lot like morten harket of a-ha, from norway? i wish these guys could have hooked up together and made music together, norway is not far from scotland,.different styles but a similar kindredness, cooL... big country is raw, pure rock, whiLe a-ha is the same except more on the keyboards; a-ha being sturdy while bands like big country being raw and expressive, at least the old a-ha, now i hear their sound is different....i think most if not all bands of 80s are timeless

  • i'm 31yrs old.

    i still love big country-tori-:)

  • Good music really is timeless isn't it?

  • An amazing band, :). and an amazing song

(RIP Stuart.) If any of you fans want to chat you'll find me on bebo these days, Angelak76. feel free to add me. x

  • Adamson, as all the BC material on YT bears out, was a giant of a talent and a Man. Compare to Bono, the prissing, preening counter of millions, and the Edge, the equally rich guitarist who counted Stuart as a major influence! It's not too late to give BC their due!

  • I have burned through 6 or 7 CDs of The Crossing. One has never left the CD player in my car.

  • steve lillywhite was a god that year. he produced this lp, U2'S WAR, AND an lp some of you may not know called 'field day' by marshall crenshaw. all amazing lp's.

  • im only 16 , and hadnt heard of big country till my dad introduced them to me.

i wish modern people my age had decent music taste, and listened to music like big country, and the jam , but no, i have to grow up around idiots who listen to basically loud noises that will deafen them in a year and who cry at what is essentially watered down metal music.

RIP stuart, if you were around today, im sure youd easily beat off this crap music invasion

  • It's so great to hear someone your age appreciating this music! There is hope!

  • I'm 14 and I simply love 80's music. I grew up on the song "In a Big Country and only recently discovered all the other songs by this band. They are fantastic and incredibly underrated. I wish mroe music sounded like this now.

  • i'm 17 - nice to know other teens appreciate real music

  • love the Big Country sound - legends

you can hear genuine bagpipe rock on "it's a long way to the top (if you wanna rock n' roll) by AC/DC

  • Mark really kicks it out on this one

  • I always kinda thought that Mark was a better drummer than that Canadian guy that everyone makes such a flap over.

  • great musicians and even if youre not into musicianship incredible songs. I love these 80s videos .. always had to 'tell a story' but never quite managed it and always ended up looking shite!

remember seeing BC in the early 80s, never seen so much energy from a live band incredible, wonderfully enthusiastic, always an amazingly lifting experience. RIP Stu adamson

  • i love it thanks, miss stuart big time.

  • The sleeve notes of The Crossing album indicate there to be guitars and e-bow used but no bagpipe. Common misconception. Being from Fife, Scotland helps ;)

  • Big Country are legends of the guitar/bagpipe sound that is so awesome, they used the MXR pitch transponder 129 guitar effect along with the e-bow you mentioned. Brilliant!!

  • personally my favourite big country song along with dive into me

  • Their masterpiece.

  • Very happy to be able to see this video for the first time in my life. Thanks for posting.

  • This has to be the worst video of theirs, but it is a great song.

  • whoever does the bagpipes in this is the greatest bagpipest in the world!

  • It's a guitar, not a bagpipe.

  • *JUMPS ABOUT AN SHAKES MEH (__(__)* .. Just as you sew you shall reap ! F king classic group NONE from this day shall ever come close to !

    R.I.P. Stuart ..

  • class band takes me right back , r.i.p. stu

  • SCOTLAND THE BRAVE!!

  • one of big countrys best songs, pity it was overshadowed by fields of fire then, in a big country then, chance then, make it up as you go along big coutry fans..lol

  • Oh my, look at Stuart in his glasses! That's a new one :] He's so cute. I love Big Country.

I hate it when the older generations slate teenagers for the music they listen to, because Big Country are my favourite band and I'm 15! Great video, thanks for this, hadn't seen it before!

  • Don't worry about it! I was 15 25 years ago and listening to Big Country and also a fan of the skids and I slated for it then! I seem to recall something that the band always emphasized was 'integrity, honesty, and Passion',values which the band excelled in and there has never been enough of in popular music! x

  • is the language English, then?

  • The 12 inch version of this was fantastic, best gig of life was bc , capitol aberdeen 1982, ended up at party with them and depeche mode at the holiday inn bucksburn, they all signed my denim jacket, completely pissed , woke up to find my mum washed the jacket!!!

  • That was my first gig mate. I believe the Capitol was knackered after an Iron Maiden gig when the roof started caving in. Mind when all the bands played Dundee city hall then the Capitol the next day. They often stopped in Montrose for some scran Personally met Souxie souix and SLF buying pies from Frosts the bakers. Happy days! BRING BACK THE CAPITOL

  • meaning words, excellent riff and brillant song.I love it.

  • just as you sow, shall you reap. So true. Long live Scotland--- the Great!

  • Don't you just hate when people say today music is much better? no it isn't. I know people will say it is 80's and "old", but it is a excellent track and is much much better than the "pretending" to be good songs. I am 15 and still listen to tracks of the 80's. I don't care if i am stuck in the 80's, i love the songs in the 80's they are 200& better than today music. x

  • The riff in this song is excellent. I loved the song and this used to get me excited when my mum played this song on her record player. excellent. no one can beat the riffs that big country play. love it! x

  • The riff in this song is excellent. I loved the song and this used to get me excited when my mum played this song on her record player. excellent. no one can beat the riffs that big country play. love it! x

  • he'S cleanin' the apple you dumbas*!

  • Is the black male wanking at 00:29?

  • only one response to you mate... tosser!

  • This doesn't deserve an answer, but Tony was shining an apple to prepare it for eating. Get your mind out of the gutter.

  • I grew up watching "The Crossing", which is a Big Country New Year's Eve live concert filmed 1983/84 performed I believe in Glasgow. We had it on a VHS cassette. I have seen heaps of Big Country stuff since way back then, but nothing comes close to the performance they did on this video. Favourite song from the vid was Harvest Home.

  • I saw that on MTV when they played videos.

Taped it too. Wonder what happened to it?

That's the one that had the Scottish drummers and bagpipes out on stage like halfway through the gig.

  • Yep, that's the one. I cant find it for sale on dvd anywhere.

  • DARAHMAN You are a silly Cunt.

  • big country are fabulous!!!

    bc am byth!

    scotland am byth!

    cymru am byth!

  • fuck off

  • Yeah it all sounds the same, but only in the context that all rock music sounds the same, all Pop music sounds the same. I think you just don't like this TYPE of music because their songs are all quite diffrent...

  • You are such a stuping bloody idiot. If you dont like the music DONT FUCKING WATCH THE VIDEO! You messed with the wrong fanbase asshole

  • I honestly don't think the glasses are that bad lol

  • I am a huge BC fan and finally got my dad to wathc BC music videos, this was the first he saw and we laughed so hard! But we still have trumendous respect for Stuart and BC. We LOVED the glasses and Stuarts dancing! RIP Stuart. We love you

  • hey this is where the hobbits live

  • Great song, gets overlooked amongst all the hits on "The Crossing" but a cracking tune in its own right. Stuart was so handsome, girly glasses and terrible dancing skills notwithstanding. He is certainly missed :-(

  • remember big country FOREVER

  • Forgot about this song. Awesome. Was there even a duff track on that entire album?

  • Not a duff one on The Crossing. very few duff tracks on any of their records. Genius.

  • ...

  • Bought "The Crossing" (green cover) album back in the 80's and was blown away by the sheer musical tallent of the collective musicians. But Stu was the man. From the Skids to BC his memory will live on forever.

  • great tune cant beat that

  • Thanks for posting, one of my favourite BC tunes.

    RIP Stuart

  • kate bush never did vocals on wondeland guys it was the seer nd the album was also the seer i know cause ive bn blasting it a week sheer catch her

  • Painful to watch LOL

Whoever directed that shit should burn in hell!

  • Yup, some of the early videos were real 80's low budget, but they could have done better with the ideas. I would rather just see the band play, than this!

  • The Crossing is one of the all time great albums!Big Country done the soundtrack for a film called "Restless Natives".Its set in Scotland and it has some of BCs best music on it!Its hard to find but well worth it!(The soundtrack and the film).Take Care!!

  • The Crossing is in my car cd player ready for my B.C. fix!!!!much love for these guys all the way from south Texas.

  • -thanks for uploading! never saw this video, and I was a huge fan! What an original sound they had. Just brilliant.

  • Big Country, oh my god, brings back sweet memorys!! Was a huge fan, and finally a got to see 'em in swedish festival -86 or -87 I think...thanks for upload

  • Bought this on the day it was released, end of summer, '82. What a songwriter he was....

  • This wasn't even a single, that's how good The Crossing was. Nowadays when a few sales at Brentford Market gets you to No1 the singles chart was a joke and Harvest Home should be number one for a month.

  • this was big countrys first single and mighty fine it was see you stratford 23/12/07

  • Of course, it was their first release. Thanks for correcting me, bit of a schoolboy howler there.

  • God, I can't listen to this song without TURNING IT WAAAAY UP !!!

  • i rememeber being at a prty with bc and depeche mode in 1982 in aberdeen , bc played the capitol on the saturady night , and stayed at the moat house in bucksburn, what a night...

  • the SEER was a incredible album the playlist was perfect!

  • for ONE album these guys were better than U2! and if stu kept his head straight who knows what they could've accomplished- they were instrumentally superior.......

  • The Crossing, Steeltown, and The Seer were at least on par with anything U2 ever made.

  • I think for a time U2 (early on) and Big Country had the same producer.

  • Indeed they did. Steve Lillywhite was his name.

  • Kate Bush done some vocals on the "Wonderland" LP!

  • how right you are !!

  • Doubt it as the music had it's limits.

I bought this one single and they never bettered it imo. BC up there with the best of scotland.

  • Never a truer word spoken - 'just as you sow, you shall reap!" Very camp dancing by Stuart Adamson at the ned and what's with The Buggles shades? Classic!

  • memory lane ;)

sad shades ;( Brz - one of the best drummers EVER !!!!

RIP Stuart - miss your voice!

  • awsome

  • The dancing at the end made me cringe - but i still love these guys.

  • Ah me, what a laugh. Love Bruce's fanny shake at 1:57. Brings you right back. What an underrated group and what an amazing album and song.

  • yes haha that is funny!!!! this video is a wee bit cheesy but i live it, i live big country and i love stu

  • Mark B is one of my very favorite drummers of all time. Yet very bad drummers like Lars Ulrich are celebrated.

  • Tony Butler was, and is, the man.

  • Love these guys, they were so underrated, better than U2..even though I like U2.Big Country deserved the fame that they had.

  • wow...I'm the 12,800th viewer!...and because of that, I'll spare everyone the story of how I found this tune to be the best of what was already a profoundly classic record...just amazing on so many levels, and, as evidenced by the longevity of this video...such as it is...a work of music that stands the test of time...

  • Couldn't add this to my favorites fast enough. Thnx 4 posting this.

  • just as ye sow ye shall reap-so true!

  • you only get oot wit you pit in so true

  • this song reminds me of my gran and grandad's home in aberhill, fife

  • priceless...thought I'd seen everything until now. Celluloid can keep you fresh forever. RIP

  • Hahahah now i have been a fan since the 80's and i have never seen this video. Oh my God i have just had a such a good laugh. First i though my lord look at those specs then the dancing. So cheered me up. See you all soon guys in Nottm.

  • S76N79 i completely agree.. most of 80's video were nothing but crap..this is a bad vido, but the song is amazing=) . R.I.P Stuart u will be sadly missed.

  • Absolutely Great!

  • Cool, but disappointing video..

This has to be a single edit

Was missing all the awesome rhythmic fills that made the song so amazing.

I love Steve Lillywhite for producing this band with the rhythym section front & center, & allowing all 4 members of the bands amazing talent to shine through, without it becoming indecipherable.

Pure power & musicianship coming straight at you.

These guys were very much the equals of U2 as a band, & rhythmically they were better.

  • bruce watson .legend

  • most videos in the 80's were crap, just like a bit of bad film really but that's all there was then until Duran Duran spent trillions on Wild Boys then things started hotting up a bit.

  • As videos go, Big Country didn't do that bad—believe me! Mark Brzezicki (the DRUMMER) is very good. I was recently watching video thinking how blessed the band was to have a drummer like him.

  • how come such a great band made such awful videos

  • Yeah, Stuart and Bruce really compliment each other on the guitars. But the ryhthm section were out of this world too. Just listen to those basslines. They are impossible to play, I've tried. The drummer never wastes an opportunity for a fill, so much going on but without sounding self indulgent. Real, genuine talent. True legends.

  • I met Mark Brzeziki (my spelling may not be right) he borrowed my drums at a Harlow Square gig, he was depping for his nephew, amazing bloke one of the countries top drummers and a really sound fella. Loved BC and still do, it was a pleasure to meet one of my heroes and he didn't dissapoint his playing was awesome.

  • One of their best tracks,great post,thanks

  • awesome band!!!!!!!!! Who cares about vid !

  • Big Country were too down to earth. Methinks they just went along with the director in this vid and decided to take the piss big style

  • do you think the drummer is taking the mick with the amount of gear attatched to his kit.ive only seen one bigger kit and it was keith moons.

  • Stu should've stook to what he does best (playing guitar) coz he sure can't dance! LOL Love that man (and his jumper!) RIP Stuart, never forget you xxxx

  • The BEST EVER!!!!!!!!!

Think Stu looks a bit like Ophelia(Jamie lee Curtis) in Trading places with those bins on(ha ha)

God bless you Stu,sure your rockin' 'em up there even now!coz you're still rockin us down here and forever more will do..RIP.....

  • I've never had much time for music videos - they always seem rather contrived and ultimately pointless. If you want the ultimate rock music experience, get the DVD of Big Country's last-ever gig at Glasgow Barrowlands. They start the set with this song, and it's the most powerful performance of ANY piece of music I've ever seen. (And I've seen most of the greats - Who, Zeppelin, Queen, ELP, etc).

  • Wow! their music was the best. I would have loved to have seen any of those bands you mentioned. Bands today aren't the same.

  • lol that bloody jumper again !!!!!

  • this is a pretty gay video, but Big country Fu*in' rules!!!

  • gay...?!?

  • The timming of this song rules...few bands could or can play with this timming....Awsome..

  • fuck he love that jumper

  • Meme avec un look aussi pourri Stuart reste le plus beau !

  • Best ending for a song EVER. The first time I heard this song I thought my cassette was screwed up. Unfortunately the video fades a little early for the best stuff.

  • Love those ankles!

  • Wow!! Never knew there was a video for this song. and i think Stuart looks cool - when i become a rock star i'm gonna dress like that. One of my favourite songs to play :):)

  • Ah yes, the high knee steooing. Let's not forget that this was perfected around the same time by the lead singer of Dixie's Midnight Runners, as shown in the video for "come on Eileen".

  • Thats some funny shit. Great Band, rediscovered em on you tube..RIP Stuart, anyone know what Bruce WAtson is doing these days?

  • Yeah, Mark has a little jig he does at the end too. Oh well, their first video! But the song still kicks it!

  • And they wear a camera on me helmet.

  • Im pissing myself laughing at this vid. That knees up and down dance that Stuart does towards the end. I remember me and my mates doing that dance to Big Country songs at school discos in the early 80s. We even wore the naff checked shirts. Oh the shame! But werent they a great band?

  • Thank you thank you thank you for posting this vid. I love this song. Ive spent months looking for it on youtube. Finally its here. Hurrah. What the fuck are Stuarts shades all about?? Holy moly. RIP Stuart. Thank you for the music.

  • Classic video, although, I think Stuart should have gone to Specsavers for some better looking sun glasses. Mind you, this video is from the 80's.

  • Didn't even realise they did a video for Harvest Home. It is funny when Tony moves in front of Stu to steal his thunder. I like his dancing - very Ian McCulloch. Thanks for sharing

  • This video is sooo funny, probably why it is one of my favorites. I love Stuart's bad dancing...he does look like he is having fun. It looks like at the end of the video someone told Tony to move in front of Stuart cause his dancing is so bad-haha
