I wonder if the CEO of Temple-Inland Paper Mill who claims the river is safe now, would take a swim down here in Porters River or a sandbar nearby and then IF he can catch a LIVE catfish out of it, would he cook it and serve it to his family? If he would do that live on-camera, then maybe I may believe them. But, after what I saw stirred up in Porters from the bottom, just the other day, didn't look safe. Millions of dead fish sunk before they scooped them out. What about the bacteria level?
There are other ways to get rid of it. they just cost more. I work for a public wastewater treatment system in Texas and have to report to the TCEQ and the EPA. The EPA is a joke and the TCEQ would be fining and making them dispose of it in another manner.
Temple-Inland was not permitted to dump any black liquor into the water treated or untreated. Its called an unauthorized discharge of a pollutant in the compliance order from the DEQ. It is now being dumped slowly into the river with intense monitoring because DEQ does not want to shut the mill down and there isn't another way to get rid of the stuff..
@reaper699tx investigations are ongoing, but nothing so far. history tells us they may not even be fined. their Permit is up for review, as it's currently expired.
I've welded in that paper mill it's a shitty nasty place, I went to the welding school in Bogalusa, they've really screwed up that river
