  • Budgie never made it big because the lead singer had a shitty voice and was really ugly, they were fucked from the get go.

  • @StoneyMcJuicyBuds That's what they said about Rush's Geddy Lee but Rush is well known throughout the world. Your logic is very opinionated.

  • That guy started playing bass and became the lead singer just so he could have sex before he died because that's the only way that ugly motherfucker was ever going to get any pussy.

  • They say that Rush is the biggest cult band in the world. Not true its's Budgie, they never get played on commercial radio,Rush does.

  • @lyle9 A cult following meaning a small group of weirdos who think they're great while a very large majority of human beings realize they blow chunks.

  • could anyone tell me what album this is on?

  • @oeyeyea hey mate it's on the bandolier, album an absolute cracker

  • @socirb nice1,gonna get that,really good stuff,

  • I reckon Burke Shelley would have been an AMAZING replacement for Jim Morisson when he died...

Just seems like they have very similar, powerful voices.

    Anyone agree?

  • this man is the reason I own a fender precision bass he knew how to make that bass sound so heavy , ,i love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The original Line - Up.....the same cloth used in the "Bandolier" back cover photos....

  • Freaking Awsome Awsome Band!

They should re-release all their albums in super HD :-)

Best Wishes Burke....You are the Man!

  • Manual tremolo action!

  • probally the king of the underaited bands, and just so u know dave mustaine responded to metallica's ad because metallica said that thay were fans of budgie.

  • Did anyone knows what chords Tony plays in the intro ?

  • Brilliant!

  • these dude were WAY ahead of there time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!no wonder Metallica coped a few songs from them

  • I would ALMOST have sex with her

  • one of my favorite songs

  • 16 People don't who they want for there love

  • Fantastic love the way they really enjoy them selves.it reminds me of the dog the dog he,s at it again by caravan.not as heavy but youll all know what I mean .check it out

  • I saw them live in the late 70's at the Tomorrow Club in Youngstown Ohio!

  • here"s some funny shit, my daughter (28) came over to my house the other day and found me in the basement ,"dadtown" listoning to some old budgie, well she sits down and started singing along with the music, after the song was over she woundered why she knew the words to the song she never heard before. had to laugh as I told her the when she was a baby she would not go to sleep until she heard "I an't no mountian for you to climb on"and her mom would sing it to her. GOOD SHIT don"t ya think?

  • @jlhack1964 I think it's safe to say we all want to visit Dadtown...

  • @jlhack1964 That is so cute and awesome.

  • @jlhack1964 Kudos to you for raising that girl right!

  • hearing

  • i got all their albums on vinyl and saw them back in the seventies, superb band, im 56 now and never get tired from heating them,

  • I bought The Bandolier vinyl Album At A Flea Market In Mexico City DF. It,s called El Chopo, And It,s all about the rock, Back in 88. I know for a fact it still exists And you can Find Stuff There from Vinyls To Autographed Garments Of any Genre of rock. Tats, food, beer stands. What ever you can imagine thast has to do with ROCK! But the most important thing? Vintage....

  • Awesome, as usual....at 3:32 Steve is thinking about how high he is!

  • I love budgie! Why did Tony Bourge left? My favorite guitarplayer...

  • Anyone who dislikes this, really has no clue about music. They should do them themselves a favour and give up now.

  • Just a very very GREAT band

  • New Budgie fan here, spreading the word, about the bird. Have you hear? About the bird?

  • i like :) remind me a bit of rush

  • @smb40

sure I read somewhere that Rush were heavily influenced by Budgie. Or did I dream that

  • There's a very popular song some years ago ripped off the chords at the beginning...can't think what it is..It'll come to me..!

  • My Mom's husband turned me onto these guys over the weekend. Can't get enough of this song!

  • i have never in my life heard a cooler band!!! jst hate years passed that i was missing out on this,,,great band \,,/BUDGIE\,,/

  • you just know the singer gets a lot of putty.

  • bUdgie gotta bE ONE OF THE Best baNDS EVer xxxx

  • Fantastik!

  • Great band and "Bandolier" is one of the best albums ever!

  • First time hearing this. I've been searching for 60s and 70s era proto-metal and it looks like I've found a hell of a gem!

  • Gedy Lee is the greatest bass player - but this guy is certainly no slouch.

  • Fantastic stuff. Imagine morphing Burke Shelley's vocal talent with Geddy Lee's bass playing ability.

  • my favorite, well one of my favorites of BUDGIE,,,,,,,,,love the old school sound,,cheers

  • Good song

  • They are not going anywhere at the moment. Burke Shelley is recovering from a heart condition and Budgie is 'on hold' until we are told otherwise...

If you want CD's buy online at the official website or scan ebay for cheaper options

  • @bodgie247

Want 2c them sometime. Never had the pleasure before. I've album "Bandolier" since it came out and still listen to it frequently. Gess it's a kind of classic. I don't have that with most of todays music; starts to bore pretty soon. This is pure rock as it should be.

  • @bodgie247 how serious is Burke's heart condition, what caused it and how is he doing?

  • @bodgie247 curious to know why Budgie wasn't ever afforded the opportunity to open or perform at a single Metallica show in the UK or am I wrong on this matter can anybody enlighten me then please..

So I ask out of complete respect because I have never heard such thing happening and if one day Burke Shelly is able to perform I hope that the powers that be do make it happen because the history books demand it....

  • I love Budgie but in Ireland their CD's are nearly impossible to find, I had to resort to a best of! I always check my favorite record haunts in Dublin but so far no joy. I would also love to see these guys live, anyone have anyone know if they'll come to Ireland? Hell I'd even get the boat to Wales if they play there.

  • Budgie has become one of my favorite bands. They deserve to be given more credit and recognition. They are LEGENDARY.

  • well said !!

  • These guys were unique and awesome! Kind of a forerunner to Rush if you think about it. A dear friend of mine, who lost his life in a car crash in 1978,turned me on to these guys. I shall be forever greatful.

  • That was so cool!

  • this is a phenominal band in my humble opinion.

  • 2:03 - 2:06

Why do I remember Master of Puppets in there?

  • @MoonlightGTA Cos it sounds like it...

  • We used to hang out in Norwich, England when these guys were in their prime! They were awesome! Looking back brings back many many great memories.

  • Second rate rock music at best played by third rate musicians.

  • @MissEgasMoniz maybe you can show us all how it shold be done? but then again you don'''t have an ear for great music, but that"s just my opinion and it don"t matter to you cause you havn"t the talent that it would take to out shine one of the Best bands EVER! .

  • @jlhack1964 I own many Budgie records and I appreciate the fact they kept on going when most bands would have given up. But c'mon.....most of their recordings suffered from terrible production and a ton of poor songs. I enjoy Budgie every now and then but I am under no illusion about their talents - which were second rate at best.

  • @MissEgasMoniz now you must, to make your point, do better then them.

make better music then breadfan and this one or else. SHUT!

  • @MangaRED Budgie were marginally ok as far any rock band went. The terrible production and then the terrible songs later on put them on a lower tier in music history. Good blokes 'n' all and always a fun night out - solid......but nowhere great.

  • watch and learn,quality performance

  • no coments - beautiful song

  • " They conquered Texas back in the 70's. I saw them a number of times. Great rock band." -Cowboy-

  • omg so boring

  • @adamvmax ...wtf is wrong with u man?

  • isso é que é banda porra.

  • i bet i'm the youngest budgie fan in the world.

  • the bass player sings and its a 3 player band like rush

  • power trio's rule.

  • Wow! Thanks for sharing!!

  • This is good.

  • Those are my fave SG's, the one's made in the 70's with the square inlays.

  • @Brown92SG I have the same one pictured here, a 1973 SG Standard Cherry Finish. For whatever reason, this guitarist took the pick guard off his. I don't know why. The guitar looks far better with it on, just for the aesthetic purposes.

  • @BellumSacrumBellum28 That's cool. I have a 92 SG Special that was stripped of it's paint so the wood's brown color shows (hence my username). Got into SG's because of Angus Young but I got over AC/DC. It's good to see that Tony Bourge played one in all those great Budgie songs. Underated guitarist playing IMO an overlooked guitar. Seems like everyone likes Les Paul's. Nothing against them it's just that SG's are much easier to play.

  • I ain't messin call your name

Never Turn Your Back on a Friend

  • Roarin' SG...

  • Absolutely Awesome!......Sabbath, Purple, Priest, Maiden, Saxon, Budgie!!! Man, I'm Proud to be British!!!

  • SO...GODDAMN....AWESOME. I would have loved to see this show....but I was 2.

  • tony borge cud be the welsh version of tony iommi

  • @ClassicsLiveForever

Yes, and the funky and soulful first section here is a good example of why Burke Shelley didn't like Budgie to be labelled just as a rock band. They were remarkably versatile. "Slipaway" (on Bandolier) is jazzy.

  • I got turned on to this band after reading about how much Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) loved them in the '70s, and how their love of Budgie is what brought Dave and Lars Ulrich (Metallica) together in the beginning. If you haven't read it, pick up a copy (or buy the audio version on iTunes) of MUSTAINE. Great piece of rock history. And man, what a fkd up life he had!

  • These guy's are truly awesome !!!!!

  • is it me or guitarist looks and plays like toni iommi?

  • reminds me of Sublime ..

  • @florgat91 I Love Sublime Too but how the Hell does Budgie remind you Of them?!

  • quarter of a milion hits, the word is getting round how good these guys are.

    Well deserved...

  • Truly great stuff from my youth and even now you can't beat a good bit of british rock.

Went to see them with my buddies in '75 in Birmingham and screen printed t shirts for us all (budgie in a spaceman suit) and the name logo down the side. Told the guys not to go to the stage door as I would be in shit street.....beer gets the better of everyone. Shelley told us how he wasn't happy..f...g b....ds....etc and wanted the shirts!! Cold train ride home to Coventry, Great video posting, thanks.

  • Check out those cowboy boots.

  • Fook Knows how many times i've watched this video,it must be 50 or 60 times

  • tony is the man but those boots must go away man!!!

  • Yeh, and this is an example of the "boring" old music that Punks are so proud of replacing! Well done punks -- you didn't replace anything, you're all gone and Budgie's still touring!!

  • Here's a story that'll make you wanna puke....a few years ago, I used to make a habit of dropping by the Goodwill near my work on lunch breaks to see if there were any kewl records....one day there were. I walked out of there with THREE white label promo copies, all of them dead mint (Bandolier, If I were Brittania, and Impeckable). That was a good day...

  • @justdoitasshole You found Budgie at Goodwill?! That's awesome, the times I went to Goodwill, I could only find Kenny Rodgers albums xD

  • Wow what a great rare post!!! Thx 4 sharing. But what ever happened to Tony Bourge (gtr). He was amazing!!!

  • This is a funky groove. And I like it. :)

  • Bandolier is one Budgie album I could never find, and just when you think you knew all their good shit, you find yet another track which blows you away. Since I never knew these guys in their prime, can someone explain why they never conquered the world?

  • @TheLastBrainLeft

    Burke Shelley.

  • @bodgie247 What do you mean? Was he a jackass? ( I always thought that it was bad luck plus the fact they were accused of copying which is BS...)

  • @bodgie247 How did Burke Shelley keep them from conquering the world?

  • @bodgie247 Close... Black Sabbath!

  • @TheLastBrainLeft I have often wondered the same thing myself. When I was in High School in the mid 70's there was only a handful of us who knew who these guys were. I'm still trying to find all their stuff. Other bands from then you may get into that not too many people knew about are BABE RUTH - MOXY - LEGS DIAMOND & PAVLOV'S DOG. Check them out..... Have a good one.

  • @TheLastBrainLeft I saw them at the whiskey in hollywood in 1978 and they were great....don't know why they didn't make it bigtime.....

  • They're badass. If I wasn't such an idiot, I would post Bandolier for you. Maybe I can remember to have one of my kids do it for me.

  • I followed them in their prime and they always seemed to have a cult but small following. playing small clubs and venues. To be really honest, I think they never made it huge because they were not a glamorous band. No posing front man or strutting guitar hero. They were serious musicians not performers. Just my 10 cents

  • @TheLastBrainLeft My guess would be because they sounded like a third-rate Led Zep.

  • @TheLastBrainLeft wonder if Shelley ever me Lee. That would be fcuking cool.

  • Everyone listened to gay ass disco during this period, so no love for raw rock-n-roll.

  • @TheLastBrainLeft becasue they suck. Only geeks with obscure taste would say they should have conquered the world, and this is coming from a rock 'n' roll geek...

  • @TheLastBrainLeft Because they came from Wales. You had to come from London to be anywhere. These guys were my heroes for many years. Their music was unbelievably good for the time. I even met them in Broadway Music in Cardiff about twelve years ago.

  • @TheLastBrainLeft Ha-ha! Maybe they just were too ugly, but I love these guys. Fantastic songs. 'N Burke's got soul. One of my fav-singers of he 70's. bandoiler is my fav-album!

  • @TheLastBrainLeft

Unfortunately the general music buying public likes what its told it likes and couldnt be arsed getting off its arse to listen to anything outside of that. Therefore they miss out on the better selection of whats available musically, because "wiser heads" at recording companies, radio stations, etc, "know" that REAL talent doesnt sell.

  • Goosebumps....this is part of the soundtrack to my life. My first crush. RIP Godfather

  • KILL TOTALLE!

  • Is there any way we can hear the studio version of this? I don't think it's on youtube.

Burke Shelley is such an amazing lyricist! and to think, I only heard of Budgie because of Brutal Legend...Thank GOD I discovered them. Anyy idea why they never got much mainstream sucess?

  • Is it just me or could Budgie have been a main influence for Chris Robinson and The Black Crowes?

This track really shows the quality of full tilt quality of this band - Burke Shelley sounds like a young Robert Plant.

    Should have been megastars!

  • Can anything be better than this...? No I don't think so either

  • WHO knows the chords the guitars playing in the intro? proper tastyy

  • I do. And they are surprisingly easy...send me a mail

  • @bodgie247 good music does not need to be hard .. its a missconception that it has to be

  • @bodgie247

Do you know what pedal he uses here to get that funky sound out of that SG??

  • @Allytherevepavillion I dunno, but ute just knocked the shit out of them!

  • Fantasic, I love this album, probably my favourite album from the group, keep rockin' guys

  • Burke at his best! I love his voice. :)

  • Is Budgie covering this song or is this their song? Now I remember who they are. This is one of the few songs of theirs that was mainstream on radio when I was a small kid.

  • just a power trio ... but the manage to to squeeze a lot of noises out of their instruments in those almost six and a half minutes, soft AND loud.

    great little band!!!

  • I really enjoy listening to Budgie while I look deeply to the green horizons of Guatemala, the place I live in.

  • great band i 1 st heard never turn your back cause a co worker told me if i like rush i'd like budgie. he was right there awesome. i picked up bandolier on vinyl it was a gift and sounds fantastic on vinyl!!!!

  • Hi everyone.what album is this track from? Also, can anyone tell me if there is anymore live vids available to watch from this era and line up? I can only find this and the Breadfan vid.Are there others (not recent gigs)? thanks

  • @teaandcakes2002

This track can be found on Budgie's 1975 album 'Bandolier'.

The only other footage from this era is of 'I ain't no Mountain' (also a track on Bandolier) which is available here on YouTube.

The Breadfan footage is of the original line up which was restored by myself and original Budgie drummer Ray Phillips. This is available on the 'Never Turn Your Back On A Friend' Remaster.

There is also a poor quality promo of the 1978 line up playing 'Smile boy smile' & 'Pyramids'.

  • @bodgie247 thanks very much for that info bodgie. You did a great job on the restoration work, i take my hat off to you and Ray for your efforts.I'm going to try and pick up the album today if possible and i'm going to look for the footage you mentioned....many regards, teaandcakes

  • @teaandcakes2002

Have you heard about Google, Wikipedia? For your second question - search harder

  • @teaandcakes2002 listen to napoleon bono part 1 & 2....one of their best....I also like "parents", "who do you want for your love", & many more!

  • anybody knows which overdrive pedal tony bourge was using???

  • @malmsteen80

The pedal Tony used on this video was a 1970's 'Colorsound' Wah/Fuzz/Swell.

He didn't use any overdrive as such, just a Gibson and Marshall 100w amp cranked up loud.

  • this is fast and bulbous!

  • chido el budgie!

  • i got a life mate!

    what's your excuse?

sounds like your life is very serious.

  • @1968bronwyn

your not watching Metallica so what are you talking about?

    maybe your still 13!!

  • @1968bronwyn how many times, this is Budgie!!!

go watch Girls Aloud or something!!

  • Get a life and let it go! I am nearly 42. Life isn't that serious!!!!! Haven't u got anything better to do?????

  • FANTASTIC

  • geddy lee - bass/vocals

    tony iommi - guitar

bruce mcculloch (kids in the hall) - drums

  • The guitar player is not Tony Iommi,Tony is left-handed

  • Seeing them in Ponty next month. Cant wait :-)

  • I am so happy I decided to check these guys out. Huge Metallica fan (became aware of Budgie after hearing the Tallica cover). IMO nothing good in the new rock so I go back to the influences of my fav bands. I asked Old Man Pete from work if he's any albums from Budgie, he came back the next day w/ Bandolier (he never really go into them cuz they weren't "Sabbath" enough for him) but after hearing side 1, I became an instant fan. I'm just pissed I haven't listened to these guys eariler!!! ROCK ON

  • One of the best rock tracks ever. Fantastic riffing.

  • Chuffing Awsome.

  • Awesome band but Tony Bourge's boot's look a bit naff! Excellent guitarist and all round excellent band

  • Just saw a truncated version of this on BBC4 (part of British Metal night), awesome stuff so had to see if I could find it here.
