There are so many girls in the world who train so hard to hope that one day they can reach that dream of becoming an olymic chapion. No mater how sore they get they always have somthing to look forward to, something to strive for. Dont take that dream away from young kids who dream about wearing that gold metal around there necks and making a difference in softball history. We have faith in these players who train tremendecly hard to get were there at now. Bring back softball!!

Because everyone sees it like a female baseball and doesn't think it's necessary to have "the same sport" for different sexes. Most people don't realize it's very different.

It's sad, but since Japan won the gold metal in Beijing it has a greater percentage of coming back because it shows that USA isn't dominant anymore. That's another reason why. But, they just ignore the fact that Michael Phelps kicked everyone else's ass. ;) They didn't ban swimming.

The decision to remove softball was shocking. However, it does no good to bash the IOC for the decision, these are the same people that will vote to put it back in! We shouldn't slam other sports...those sports are just as important to the many (or few) people that play them. Getting softball back in is about promoting what an awesome sport it is on its own! And regarding the comment about Australia having so sb...hello! They got the bronze in Beijing! The Aussie's rock!

Why is baseball and softball gone instead of beach volleyball? Who plays beach volleyball? Even in the US, if you are not from California or possibly Hawaii or Florida, what are the chances that you will play beach volleyball? Beach volleyball seems to be for people who don't hack it in regular vollyball.

However, that does not refute the fact that it is played far less in most regions around the world, compared to other sports.

I guess I sorta assumed Australia=Cricket, they also do have a good baseball team.

But yeah, I don't agree with the IOC's choice, but at the same time, I think Americans, Australians, Japanese need to comprehend the fact that its not played at all in Europe, Africa, most of Asia, most of south America.

I'm a semi-fan of softball and a big fan of baseball.

Since there seems to be some debating about baseball and softball being rid of the olympics, let me explain to you all.

There are a few big big reasons, why they chose to get rid of those two sports. (I don't know as much for sotball but more so for baseball.)

First of all doping. The MLB, which is basically the center of baseball around the world, has not and still continues to not comply with the IOC's doping tests. This has pissed off

Yeah i played softball for several years and loved it, had the time of my life. It's a lot more physical than you think. I always managed to get cuts on my legs and arms from sliding and diving. I don't think we should really bash any sport. I mean, yeah ping-pong has been around a little longer but keeping softball in the olympics isnt hurting anybody really except the countries who don't participate in it. But I see where everyone is coming from on this topic.

Softball being kicked out of the Olympics it´s not, as many of you wrote before, an anti-American thing. I´m a proudly Argentinian, played softball myself for the last 13 years, got to play 2 Panamerican Games, one World Cup and a Youth Olympics, plus got the chance to develope this beautiful sport in South Africa and my own country too. People like me all over the world has got the best memories and have learnt the most thanks to this sport.

Why dont they take ping pong or diving away? all these sports are dominated by China, so whats the difference. Ping pong is mainly played in China so that makes them dominant to other countries. They wont take those away because their is so much anti american sentiment due to george bush and iraq.
