Btw...just spoke to a friend of mine in Charleston WV who is related to the late David Myrick (T Texas Tyler) ...wondering if you know anything about the extended family of this great country star????
I'm only seventy now, play guitar around the campfire although not often enough; for the kids and grandkids; recall my Dad singing this song; brings back lots of warmth back from the war torn '40's.
great song, naomi. can't beat this kind of music. so sad we don't have music like this today. thank you for sharing. hope your friend is doing well.5stars. god bless, margie
Thanks, Naomi...my husband saw this in my SHARES & stopped me in my tracks to go to it before anything else! LOL! He's singin' along right now! Thanks a million! xxoo Red
I really enjoyed this one, not only the music but the great bio info on Texas T Tyler. My Dad had a couple of his records which he played quite often. I also remember his later gospel recordings. Thanks to dear Naomi for sending my way. FIVE STARS Mike in Missouri
Thanks to Naomi for sending me this link. What a great artist. I had the pleasure of attending one of his concerts many many years ago around the late 40s early 50s.
I think I've fallen in love with a new artist...or, at least, a new artist to add to my collection...my hubby is sleepin' right now, but I'll have to quiz him & let him listen to Mr. Tyler...to see if he "remembers" him...LOL! I don't believe I've seen any T. Texas Tyler in my husband's massive collection of county music...but I could be wrong! I loved this! 10+ stars for this gem, Naomi! Have a safe holiday! Love ya! Red
What a wonderful upbeat song with hopeful and cheery lyrics. A special thanks to NaomiWadsworth for sharing this beautiful gem, I may have to give this one a try. Thank you for posting it. Mark
thank you- my dad who is tone deaf used to sing this to me and my siblings all through our childhood and into our adulthood. I never knew who sang this til he got a catalog of old country music. I cant wait for me and my brother to learn ALL of the lyrics to surprise my dad at our annual rib cookoff. - thank you for posting
How did it become allowed to not be able to sing today? I swear that every old recording I hear, and honestly I've become a bit of a collector at this point, even the low budget recordings... Everyone just sounds so soulful and human. Country, Blues, Jazz, BeBop, Swing... just people making music... none of these damned robots using computers... and they still can't get it right!!
WOW, I had the pleasure of attending one of his shows in 1948, He was touring the country and booked a show in Crawforn NE in the High School auditorium. What a great memory this brought back. Thanks for posting.
Boy I have danced to this lots of times, in my dancn' days. Played by the Encinanita's Ranch Hands!! What memories!!

If I could dance, this is the kind of stuff I'd dance to. Nice swing to this song.
Would that be Jimmy Bryant on the electric guitar?

I'm not certain, but I know Joe Maphis did a lot of guitar work on Tyler's recording at Capitol.
akronrambler 2 years ago
I defer to your knowlege on this.
It's a style of playing not heard much anymore.
CampfireCowboy 2 years ago
@CampfireCowboy I do think that this is Joe Maphis. That double neck Mosrite guitar of his had a distinct sound.
