The AUG is also made under license in Australia (licensed by Steyr-Mannlicher, Austria) at Lithgow Small Arms Factory, and has seen a lot of combat with Australian Army troops fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan. Check out my feature video and you'll see the Aussie variant F88SA3 with grenade launchers attached. Enjoy :)
@wattlebough Why the hell do the Australians get the Steyr AUG's and Americans get stuck with m4's? I'm going to petition my Govt. for the military to adopt a bullpup type weapon now!
@sspope Steyr Arms US is actively looking for a new US partner to continue building the AUG A3 USA, this time with assorted barrel lengths (cold hammer forged).
I've only handled one, but even though I'm 6'5" the rifle balanced beautifully in my hands. I'm very anxious to try one at the range, and if I like it enough Ill get it over the 14.5" LWRC M6A2.
Down, tilt, cock, lock, look in. Empty mag. Tilt the weapon, eject the mag, press another one in. Tilt back, flick the cocking handle forward, continue firing.
I'm a lefty shooter. I see the ejection port is way back in the stock, would I get hit in the face with casings? or is it easily modified to eject to the left?
i have an airsoft version of this!! and please dont hate im legally too young to posses a real AUG A3 or any gun as i am only 15 :P but even the airsoft version looks and feels great
Wearpons is a big business and these bastards, wearpon-makers, seem to be to blaime for many military conflicts. Always search for those who are interested.
@theandika47 Both. This is an AUG 3 which is a "bulpup" type design. There are many different manufactures and firearms that incorporate this design. "Bulpup" simply means that the firing chamber is behind the trigger group making the firearm more compact and the barrel longer for a comparable weapon of non-bulpup design.
Is it just me, or does that woman look almost exactly like Scully in the X-Files? I'm thinking the X-Files would have been even cooler if Mulder and Scully carried Steyrs.
@Inklebonker1 The AUG A1, A2, A3 is designed and is made in Austria. The Austraillians make a version called the F88 Austeyr for their military. The AUG A3 USA is made of primarily Austrian AUG parts, but is assembled with a US made barrel and reciever (and a few smaller parts) by Steyr Arms and is consistent with Austrian spec. The AUG in it's full Austrian design/manufacture is banned from US importation. The A3 USA uses enough US made parts to be legally built and sold in the US.
@bcmarshall3285 Thanks this is one of my favorite european weapons along with the G41,3 the Fn FAL/FNC/p90/p2000 the MP5/7 and several others. I was just confused because i thought the title meant that this gun was American which its obviously not.
@Yuritower77 There isn't a "rational" reason. All imported "assault rifles" were banned as a "crime/gun control measure." Now "assault rifles" (sketchy definitions of such) must be US made or have a certain number of US made parts to be compliant (922) with US law. German made HK rifles, real AKs, Galils, AUGs etc were specifically named by model in the ban. Only one AUG was ever traced to a crime in the US. But since movie villians used them, they must be dangerous, right?
@Inklebonker1 its australian all imported guns have to have a fixed amount of american made parts on them to be legally sold i think they do the same thing with cars lol
we austrian tryed to make the next assault gun for the US army . but it s too expensive to buy sooo many steyr AUG a3´s . but a little piece of ranger could have AUG´s .
I notice that before they reload, they tilt the gun and look at the chamber. Is that to see if it is locked back meaning that it is out of ammo and ready to have a new mag inserted and then the breach closed for firing?
@BlueonGoldZ Yes. When a self loading rifle fails to fire (click when you want a bang), the operator needs to check the bolt/ejection port to diagnose why. If the bolt is closed, then he may need to TAP to make sure the magazine is seated, RACK clear a bad round or load an empty chamber. If the bolt is open and the chamber/mag are CLEAR, the gun needs to be reloaded, if the bolt is open but rounds are jammed, he may need to clear a double feed, broken shell, etc. Thats why you check first.
@lilo689 It depends on your definition of "better". I can say the AUG is more compact, much easier to clean, easier to repair/swap parts, uses a cold hammer forged barrel, is gas-piston operated and has adjustable gas settings. The M4A1 is a great weapon, but with real education on the AUG any M4 operator will see the AUGs advantages (and a few disadvantages too). Most of my students are M4/AR-15 users. They fall in love with the AUG when properly trained. (COD does not count as training).
@LiieZMuang What is your conception of big? ...7.62 is the AK-47 ammo and the brazilian(my country) idiot rifle ammo which idk the name. BTW I think that too big is a .50 cal barret ammo, and depends of what are you using it for.
@LiieZMuang 7.62x39 is the "AK" round you are discussing, it is shorter than the 7.62x51 (pretty much the same as.308) cartridge in the FAL / L1A1 / M-14. I know the 7.62x51 is not the same as .308, its like debating 5.56 vs. .223. They are different pressures, but in some cases interchangeable.
@Cylupus Bullpups certainly benefit from the reduced overall length and 50/50 balance. You can have a short gun without the legal restrictions. Bullpups don't have adjustable stocks, which can be problematic for shooters getting a comfortable length of pull in heavy armor. Bullpups also are trickier to get a nice trigger pull because of the transfer bars that work the hammer pack, but there are ways to modify it into light and acceptable. Both are great platforms, they just take practice.
@char1eston It's actually polymer, and in my experience, the polymer makes this weapon much lighter than the M4A1 variants and the M16 variants I've come across. Using Troy Sights and an Aimpoint Comp M2 on both rifles, fully zeroed and at 100 yards, has me convinced that the AUG A3 is superior.
@dderbis85 what are you retarded im glad u.s. army dont use them because its plastic and extremely unreliable, i would pick a m4a1 or a m16 over the aug any day and im austrian.
@char1eston Using "plastic" is not a bad thing. The Glock is plastic and Austrian and reliable, tons of handguns have copied this. The body of the FN-P90, FN SCAR, and many others are plastics/polymers. As far as the AUG being unreliable, I'm not sure about that conclusion. Gas piston rifles run cleaner than direct impingement guns. The AUG uses a cold hammer forged barrel that will outlast any button rifled AR. The AR platform is good, but calling AUGs "extremely unreliable" is not true.
@sw00p99 But, you only have a 1/1,000,000,000 chance of that happening. So while it could be that catastrophic, you have pretty much no chance of it happening unless it was made by an amateur gunsmith who knows little to nothing about this awsome gun!
There's no such thing as "the SWAT." The gear used by SWAT teams around the country varies with each department, as each department does things differently. For those with 5.56 rifles in their inventory, most will be using AR pattern rifles because they work, and won't end up being a logistics headache.
@opmike343 Also I'd imagine that the caliber used in a mission is also dependent on the mission, because of over penetration for example.. Also I'd imagine some swat members could use their personal firearms.
@PilotDani Steyr-Mannlicher is an austrian company!
