In Halo Reach, you can do this by putting down a killball in forge, then while holding a vehicle WITHOUT putting it down, and putting it inside the killball. the small stand for the turret on the warthog stays, but the gun isn't there. the rest of the vehicles look basically just like in the halo 3 glitch.
