Sorry i've not commented on this yet; been away for a while. what a fantastic sound on the finished product! Sounds perfec + makes the tunes so catchy, each song i kept thinking 'this chorsu is gonna be in my head for ages', but then the next would supercede it - great!
Cheers Polly! How did the exams go. Well I hope - if you're back in Hampshire (I think that's where you said you're accent's from) check out our Guildford gigs. In fact tomorrow night Tuesday 8pm we're in Reading - get the Cd and play it to your uni mates.
the exams.. well, at least they went + i don't have to think about them again unless i need a resit, heh. afraid i haven't been in hampshire for a good few years, i'm in east anglia these days :( best of luck with the gigs though, not that you need it!
I thank you Mat. It's an honour to have you as my first virtual friend turned into a real life one! Really very kind - and delighted you like it. I'll have to lift this quote and put labels on the cover saying YouTube Wedding Present cover artist Mat Durrance says:" ... Ha!
Count one for me, that's a lifesaver for the soul of a song! Thanks for writing it... I'll be daydreaming about her as far as this road will take us...
Cheers Paradise - many thanks indeed for the lovely comment - and if it means you've placed an order for the CD even more thanks. Hope you'll like it. The peeps at Banquet are really friendly and it was kind of them to stock it and do the internet page. If you're anywhere near London we've two big gigs coming up - supporting Man on June 23 and then headlining at central London's smallest music venue on July 6th. Details on our myspace. Thanks again!
Hi Secret. Just checking for anything new - taking a well earned break or writing maybe? I used to be Copperblu 'till someone stole my name-long and boring story. Anyway, hope you're doing well and coming up with some great new material. cheers, ken. Btw, I found your version of the Lindisfarne song, 'fog on the tyne'. My sister had some of thier stuff when I was a youngster and I later raided it; luved and still do luv lots of it. Good stuff by you as usual.
Don't think the Fog On The Tyne one was mine ken, though I did like Lindisfarne - only ones I can play are Lady Eleanor and Winter's Song - both badly as I learned them ages ago at school. I've been on hols and before that sorting the Cd - which is now available! Link on the channel home page.
Cheers Antonio. Love those two new Italian songs of yours! OUr first gig as a fourpiece tomorrow where I'm hoping to sell a few copies of the CD too - I know a couple of copies have got as far as San Francisco and Scotland so far.
Cheers Antonio - much appreciated! Let me know when you get one together and I'd love to do the same. If you watch the second of those Winterkids videos it's shot (Ithink) v near those villages featured in my Walk With Me vid ... lovely bit of Surrey, Peaslake in the Surrey Hills. Some of my shots are of Shere nearby. Well worth visiting if you ever come to London and want a day out in the country.
Love your Lyrics... and the ideas within...! And the Beautiful Sounds you have created! You must be so proud! Yes, all so very Brilliant! Thank you for sharing! Your Fan, and Friend Annie~
Many thanks Annie - wasn't really sending out the video again, just wanted to let people know about the album release and couldn't figure a way of doing it because I'd replaced bulletins with event dates on my channel. Best, David
i'm gald to find this channel very cool songs...very melodic...the vibe remind me a little of a band from Montreal called the Box and some REM...but you have a very orginal approach...sounds ready for the radio to me...cheers!
Hi David. I've had a few spare hours at work and I have been listening to your stuff here and on myspace. All I can say is that it is utterly fantastic. All the comments/complimets you have left for me now seem all the more meaningful. Particularly liked "Walk with me" but they are all very very good. You have a great talent. Cheers for now. Mat.
Hi Mat - that's very kind. Don't expect this quality on June 4th - you might be disappointed. A lot of the gloss - and extra instrumentation - was added by the producer. I did play him Take Fountain as an example of the sound I liked!! But I hope to have the CD on sale at a very reasonable price at the gig - and if I can get off work early enough I might be spotted sadly giving out promotional postcards at Kingston station ...!
Cheers patman. That Blondie one was great - and now I can just click on your nane and watch it again and give it another rating and comment. Best, David
Hey David, what a great idea to combine the songs into one video. Well, you know that I love the songs and I'm glad to hear the studio version of leanr how to cry, one of my all time favs, and I'm not talking about YT here!
As for the Mellencamp riff I know that song and can't hear any real similarity. Gotta listen at myspace ;-)
Welcome back and many thanks Antonio. Hope you had a great trip! We've got some gigs lined up now and a drummer that seems v good and is interested ... so it's all looking positive. But the Mellecamp thing is a dead ringer - just that initial riff. Best, David
sorry 'bout the illness ss (there's them ss's agin!) hahaha. but really, i hope it clears up soon; congrats on the gigs. lemme see, intros: 1:don't cry no tears-NY 2:waiting for the man-VU 3: all along the watch tower (dylan's) 4: syd barrett song but i forget which one (jugband blues? it goes, "she don't rock and roll, she don't like it, she don't do the stroll, etc. My critique for the day :) Excellent stuff. Every song is top quality. Good luck!
Many thanks Kenneth. You mean I've nicked all the intros ... oh well, they sound like good people to borrow from ;o) ... and the only one of those I know at all well is Neil's.
No!!! Not nicked. It's just the way I listen to music. When I hear something, I always try and see if I can relate it to another song. As I said, it's great material. Usually, I think it's great if a CD has 4 really good songs on it. And you've got 4 there already. Where you a professional muso at some stage, as in were you in a known band in the 80's perhaps? Just wondering. If any of those songs were put out buy someone who was well known they'd be made a big thing of man. Great!
No never a pro - only in a band at college. It's just a bit of fun - and an effort to prove my wife wrong when she says I should give up singing and just try and sell the songs.
they'd probably fetched you a fair sum, ss. i don't know anything about the record business. i think they are catchy because quite a few stay with me. but it boils down to what you enjoy the most i guess: performing and writing or writing and selling. always nice to prove the wife wrong anyway :) whatever you do, good luck.
Dang SS! I commented on this days ago but I guess it never stuck. I'm really digging on these tunes brother. These studio recordings are really impressive and I have many questions. Is there a studio band helping you out? Is it your band? Are you playing all the instruments. Doesn't matter just curious but never the less. they sound amazing and I hope you might post them all individually.
Excellent work my man. Very well done indeed. you've made a fan out of me.
Hi Greg. I went into a studio with a guy who specialises in singer songwriters. I just play one guitar track (usually acoustic rhythm) on each song. He plays all the other stuff, and programmes the drums. It's amazing watching him work - I tried to do a video but I was out of batteries. Cheers!
Hi strummer yes definately John Cougar riff as soon as I heard it, eyes wide open is a great track and when life changes is a great finish to an album. You have some great sounds :)
Hi Willie - many thanks indeed. The Cougar thing was totally an accident. All I can think is they were playing around with the Don't Cry riff too and came up with same thing!
That's really kind of you Ralph. Your Eyes Open is my favourite of these even though the vocal is too inaudible at the beginning. I love the violin - which is computerised. The producer didn't like the idea of a computer violin at first - till we tried it, and it works!
david i really like this you are a very talented songwriter are you gonna release any of this new stuff from your latest studio time i think you should seriously consider it anyway 5 stars from me too great stuff.....
Yes hoping to get a CD out at some stage soon. Not so sure about the very talented bit - Jon's (1after909) has just discovered the riff in Walk With Me was done by John Cougar Mellencamp 27 years ago. I never knew. I just thought it was a bit of a Don't Cry No Tears semi rip-off! Thanks anyway steven
Not at the mo rokgod, I don't really know the best way to do it. What I was thinking of was doing a run of about 200 to sell at gigs ... and then put it on CDBaby too, and from there it automatically goes on the download sites. But have you done anything like this - what's the best way? And thanks!
good tune rocking good sound
