@Aislinnmomma That is very funny but actually they are not singing right there what is being heard is a studio recording, they are probably just moving their lips right along with their own voices but I know for a fact that the sound was recorded in a studio.
I love the chemistry between them which is essential to make this scene work. However i could do without the spoken dialogue which obscures the singing. It just spoils what was a great operatic scene. Without interruption this would have been one of the best Tosca' on film. Pity
@kepier47 well, they're husband and wife so they have natural chemistry, and the operas were they acted togehter, la bohéme for example, are considered one of the most emotives performances of all.
It's obvious! We just don't have the same erception of music! I'm not a musician at all, I'm not a music critic, I know nothing of the profound meaning of music ... I just have my sensitiveness ... I like her more than him, amlthough I like hime more than others (more than Villarzon, for exemple!)^. When I was very young I didn't like Calas because I thought her voice too "sharp"! That's why soimetimes I take Angela's voice for Calas's, I suppose!
Sorry to hear you don't like her! Especially that she decided to go on with her career separately from her husband ... and she is right! I saw Tosca with Alagna and another soprano (I forgot her name) at Orange Festival this year ... and it has been just mediocre.
I have all the DVDs of the operas they registered together. They are great together, but I prefer Angela ... For me, she is just amazing ... and I'm glad to see that critics agree with me. Her last CD is just beautiful.
@marabinaninia Thanks! I understand that my opinion is opposed with the generally accepted opinion but my soul and heart reject her voice; for me her voice is very sharp, hard, rectilineal and she is unnatural at all. As against Alagna. His voice has the rare, crystal tembre and he is the tremendous actor.
It's a pity that their private life has the problems but I think that their so different voices mirror their different natures at all. For years it becomes problematic.
This talking in the middle is so real ... Opera is life and beauty! Roberto is very good but Angela is magnificent! She should sing The Marsseillaise to become as popular as him! Oh no! It's disgusting to do anything in order to be loved! I adore her just the way she is!
@marabinaninia Yes, Yes, Gheorghiu voice is for Marsseillaise, but not for lyric singing.
I began to listen Alagna recently and could not to understand why does he sing with that soprano so much. Then it was clear. I think that the audience loves the love of this pair, but their voices are unharmonious. Listen his singing with other sopranos. Compare his Romeo with the different sopranos. And "Traviata"! Gheorghiu-Violetta is the hostess of the life but not the unlacky woman.
The latest news is that AG is NOT going to divorce RA, "for the moment". I think that they will always love each other passionately, but perhaps not live together.
I have seen these two together many times and especially this film version of Tosca, and they are worth every penny. Beautiful voices and beautiful to look at, they definitely earn their title of the Posh and Becks of opera. Absolutely wonderful!
excuse me,dear emotion70, but i`m from the same town as she is(adjud, vrancea in romania) and my mother grew up with her and her sister!i was present at the funeral of her sister and don`t tell me that crap because i don`t want to talk about elena`s unhappy life!
emotion70, sorry but her sister elena did not died in a car crash.that was her brother-in-law.elena was very ill in that period,if you don`t know please don`t tell.for respect!
I wished I hadn't been right about this terrible piece of information but I am right.Check Wikipedia Elena Dan.Anyway I am such a great fan of Angela that I'll never comment on something personal.I did it because I felt irony in SiEtln1's words.
The two conveyed more love and passion while they're singing than when they actually kiss. They could have left that part out and preserved the integrity of the scene. Magnificent vocals and musical arrangement nevertheless!
Tosca is visting the church where her lover is painting a portrait of mary magdelene [i think.] When tosca sees the blue eyes, she freaks out and thinks her lover is having an affair with some blue eyed girl and demands that he change the color of mary's eyes to brown if it isn't true.
Tosca's lover, the painter Mario Cavaradossi, used as a model for his portrait of Mary Magdalene a certain blond and blue-eyed Marchesa Attavanti, who happened to be there praying in front of the Virgin's statue at the time when he was painting it, so he used her as a model. Tosca was jealous because she thought he betrayed her with the Marchesa, and urged him to paint her eyes black, because Tosca is dark-haired and dark-eyed.
From several years ago, of course. RA has been outside AG's circle, probably since the 2000 time frame.... RA seems to be making a bit of a comeback from some serious personal problems......always seemed to be a more interesting tenor, than AG was an interesting soprano....musically speaking....non-musically speaking, there's a bit more to say about AG...hahaha ....echoes of the dimaggio-monroe love-hate relationship...minus the old-school gentlemanlyness and complete lack of arrogance of Joe...
excuse me..they are married but angela doesn`t have any child...her adopted daughter is her niece...i know them peronally because we are from the same town from romania!
I love this opera.... and regardless of what people say about these two sometimes, they are just amazing on this recording/video. Puccini's music is just breathtaking. Lovely acting, wonderful music, impecable style.
Beautiful! I love Angela singing and acting so much... but what is with the weird film at the beginning and the singing background while they talk about 5 minutes in? Also, could someone tell me, is the Tosca DVD the entire opera? I saw the Romeo et Juliette DVD and thought some of the music might have been cut out (or maybe I was distracted... who knows). Thank you so much for posting!
Yes, it is the entire opera. Nothing has been cut out. I have the DVD with the whole film, and it's complete. I don't know about the Romeo et Juliette DVD (is this with Angela and Roberto as well - I'd like to have it), but I can tell you that the DVD contains the complete opera.
beh di donc ils ont l'air vraiment amoureux ces deux là. Belle scène qui masque d'ailleurs les performances vocales des artistes.
