coition ig. mission- the metallic scrapes, the funk in the guitar, along with J.gotP. was the best thing about Rapeman. Albini was just too uptight to go with it more.
I used to listen to this in the early nineties in college all the time. LOVE IT!!! Got a little sick of these kinds of bands for a long time, but this version of this song is a stand out. Thanks for posting.
methinks Rapeman were not going for the note-for-note carbon copy cover version option, you should probably not be listening to music of this kind if you have these kind of complaints, maybe search out some Westlife or X Factor bullshit if you want note perfect pristine cover versions
@drumgitar1: oh man, I think Rapeman nailed this song. Not only in the riff but also the whole feel of it. they updated it and not only groove it but pack a quick uppercut into it.
The Steve Albini guitar solo on this version is pure, non-melodic noise ... and one of the greatest things ever. This version is great, and the original is great as well. Unite #OccupyMusicSnobStreet
I used to have that blue 'R' on the back of my leather jacket. (Honestly) On the day that I left the UK someone came up to me and asked if that was the 'R' from Rapeman.
Now, 15-20 years later I think I am ready to wear it again.
I always find it amusing that Rapeman chose to do a ZZ Top cover in the first place, ZZ Top are not the first band you'd think of in terms of influencing or having any kind of affiliation with Rapeman.
Personally having heard both versions I like the Rapeman version best, but the ZZ Top version is quality too.
@confinedspace2006 Don't forget two texas boyz are in Rapeman Rey Washum and David Sims coulda had something to do with it... Great song, saw them at Rathskeller in Boston in '89 or so.
I have read a couple of interviews with Steve Albini where he cites ZZ Top as a major influence. I can actually hear the influence personally. You can tell that Albini's guitar playing borrows a lot from Billy Gibbons.
Thumbs up if you listen to this on your payday

A note for note cover would be way too boring for Albini. Why are you even listening to Rapeman?

@drumgitar1 I thought that this was the original! I don't agree with your comment but thanks for the info.
