Can you apply render or plaster to a wooden wall on the exterior of a home?

bwj999: Correct. Dampening down the substrate before rendering, pointing or limewashing helps to control suction and reduces the likelihood of cracking and crazing. This process should also be repeated between render and limewash coats on every application.

I have an old house with aloit of drumy lime render in the interior walls thanks to movement in the walls from moisture fluctation in the soil.

I was toying with the idea of removing the lime render and cenment rendering the whole house then while reading around different webssites have found lots of reasons why I should stick to lime render. All advice appreciated.
