Thank you for telling this story. Facts are often left out, leaving only the shiny words when cultures barg on themselves. In the US - Minnapolis is a bike friendly city... But not for bicycle commuters in very simualr ways.. The buses can carry bikes, 2 and if the rack is full, even if it is -20f you have to wait and hope for the next bus -up to 1 hour later.
I'm sorry that happened to you.. Nothing can justify the action of that woman or the driver for allowing it...
Though having a car I'm actually a great believer in the principle of public transportation but think its sad that it for people with a choice has become so tempting to avoid taking the bus that in Denmark as a mean of rransportation have become highly overpriced driven by underpaid overstressed and in effect often rude chauffeurs. Hoping it would have changed I jumped on a bus yesterday when I couldn't catch a cab on ny way to a meeting. The first thing the bus driver says is 'somebody has t
If I was there with you, I'd have stood in front of that bitch and told the bus driver to get a life! I hate seeing things like this happen, it could have been worse... People seem so against cycling these days!
I did actually file a report, as I was hoping that the bus company would eventually have to pay for the bike (since they provoked the incident, didn't come to my aid,etc)... But maybe that wouldn't be fair either... Anyways... The woman "couldn't be identified", so she got away with it. Nobody payed for the broken bike.
Overall, the bike-transportation system here is very good. Even most of the taxi-cabs here have bike-racks; while makes it even more practical to cycle somewhere. The only problem is when biking and PUBLIC transportation have to be combined on a journey from A to B. The public-transportation system here is a "headless beast" where there is literally NO accountability for poor service; possibly because there aren't many alternatives to their service.
Think yourself lucky with the trains, in the UK you cant get on 90% of the trains or any of the busses with a bike. Even then they often ask you to leave even if its a brompton
Sorry to see this has happened to you! Looks shitty.
@downfader2 You're right, Britain really sucks when it comes to bikes and train/bus travel. They would only let a bike on the train in a certain part (Red doors), which is really lame..

O_O Hvad....

Shocking, I'd have been tempted to call the Police as the woman caused criminal damage to your property?

I think thats a shame. Many Brits hold your nation up as a pinnacle of how things bike related should or could be.
