@Halospartan1337XD, Bobby Orr is alive, he is 63 years old now. Aside from being retired, it would take someone from the Boston area to know what activities he is involved in now. I remember that he coached the Old-timers game at the all star game some years ago, I remember that the ovation that he received was unbelievable!! I was born and raised in Connecticut but have lived in California for 40 years so I don't hear much about him anymore.
arlichar11, (continued). Martin Brodeur defeats the Roy argument,!, and the other 3, Gretzky, Lemieux, and Howe STAND OUT in other writer's minds as AMAZING, and they were! (but just in a few categories)-----HOWEVER, MATHEMATICS RULES, and when ALL categories of statistics are utilized, then Robert Gordon Orr emerges as the best to ever play the game. It is not even up for discussion, in my opinion, I say, get out the statistics and compare ALL players in ALL categories!!!
FACETS of game--that's the key that makes Orr the best hockey pleyer of all time. Offence, defence and neutral zone, Orr was at hockey's best in all three zones.
God I am not a bruins fans nor was i alive during the Orr era but as a hockey fan Bobby Orr was the best of his time. Quite the same can be said of Mr. Cusack. The best duo was Cusack and Derek Sanderson. RIP Mr. Cusack.
@rstp354 Eagleson definitely deserved all the boos, though at that time, no one fully knew of the extent of Eagleson's appalling shenanigans that resulted in Orr missing out on ownership of 18% of the Boston Bruins, not to mention other illegal misdeeds for which "The Eagle" was disbarred in Canada and the US, as well as removed from the Hockey Hall of Fame.
a few ears back at a charity event in Boston, a fan told b\Oobby Orr she was so sorry for him that his career ended early. Bobby told her to shed no tears for him and that he was the luckiest guy in the history of the world to have the 10 greatest years of his life in a city that adored. Kinda tough to root against a guy who is not only the greatest ever, but a real gentleman as well.
Thanks so much for posting this. What a class act he was and is. Kids today have missed out big time. He did more for Hockey in New England than any one could have imagined. PeeWee & Bantam Leagues just sprung up everywhere. It brought us all together no matter what side of the tracks you were on.Thanks Bobby for some of the best memories of my youth. I will always admire you. You taught us to work hard, to strive for the best, but most importantly, to do it while remaining humble.
Being an ontario boy, I have friends who have met bobby orr thru various charities. Every one of them have said that he is THEE nicest guy. You can see that in him on highlights as he is so humble when he scores. He seems almost embarrassed. The greatest hockey player ever!!!!
To finish my thoughts: I absolutely love Gretzky, Lemieux, and Howe, the pleasure that they gave me over the years, as a devoted Hockey fan, was unbelievable, but Bobby Orr was the greatest hockey player to ever play the game, PERIOD. If anyone doubts this, they can get a copy of the article from Beckett's. After reading that short compilation of number 4's feats, THROUGH ALL FACETS OF THE GAME (THAT IS THE KEY), no one could successfuly argue that he wasn't the greatest. Thanks again!
silverfox4743, I couldn't agree more that Bobby Orr is the greatest to ever play. You know how I know, I am from Ottawa and last year Daniel Alfredsson had the best year of his career. He was 37 years old. Bobby Orr achieved everything before the age of 30 when injuries stole him from us.
@silverfox4743 i dont think ive ever seen or met anyone that tried to argue that bobby wasnt the best ever...
only ppl who know nothing about hockey would be so foolish to think that he wasnt.... if he had not hurt his knees his accomplishments would have been even more ! i wasnt alive when he played but any videos ive seeen have all been WOW and and amazing! not to mention the interviws and accolades he get from fellow players and hockey ppl
I of course agree 100%, but trust me, I have read many articles by hockey writers who do NOT think that he was the best to ever play the game. For example, The article in Beckett Hockey that I mentioned in an earlier post-------it wasn't just Mark Doll writing an article that Orr was the greatest, that was a SERIES, where hockey writers put forth their arguments regarding the best ever. The same article(best ever) was written about Lemieux, Gretzky, Howe, and Roy.
@silverfox4743 I had the honor of being there that night. It was the most moving experience of my life. The noise level was unbelievable and it just kept getting louder and didn't stop for about 20 minutes. There wasn't a dry eye in the house. Orr was loved not just for his talent, but for his unbelievable class and humility. A rare man, and the best player in history period
@artistseye1 , If there was ever any ONE event that I wish that I were at --------it would be that night!! Youtube is my favorite website and I am so thankful that this event was posted on Youtube in its entirety!!, it is a joy forever for all of us Bobby Orr fans. No one in sports history has ever gotten a longer standing ovation, BECAUSE--------no one in sports was ever loved as much as RGO.!!!
Thanks SO MUCH for posting the entire retirement ceremony. I was born and raised in New Haven, CT and most of us adopted the Bruins as we only had a minor league team, the New Haven Blades. I don't think that there is or ever was a sports personality that was more loved than Bobby Orr. I had always believed that he was the greatest to ever play the game, then about 10 years ago, Mark Doll wrote the argument in Beckett Hockey monthly for BGO being the greatest, and it solidified it in my mind.
I couldn't help but laugh when they presented Alan Eagleson. What a fucking joke. He stole tons of money from the players when he was the NHL Players Association president. He stole money from Orr as well. The laughs on you, Alan, youre going to hell.
Bobby Orr. Love that guy. Larry Bird used to look up at his number in the rafters before every Celtics game for inspiration. He was amazed at how Bobby Orr was revered in Boston.
I didn't know that. But it's good to see the Bruins cheering on the Celtics and vice versa. Maybe if the Celts win the championship, it'll light a fire under the Bruins' butts because they haven't done anything for this town in 36 years.
ill miss bobby orr hes a great player
