It is quite possible they shot it in Chicago in an attempt to portray the Bronx because out of all cities, it looks similiar to New York. South Side Chicago looks very similiar to South Bronx.

South Central LA though looks nothing South Bronx. The former has palm trees and actual unattached houses.
