Copying, ripping and circumventing copy protection should be 100% legal so long as the content remains in your possession only. Redistributing the content is what is wrong. And those are the people who the copyright holders should go after. Not the people who simply want to rip/copy things they bought for their own personal use.

What it comes down to is a poorly written law that is used to screw people who aren't "pirating" anything.

The MPAA and RIAA are complete bullshit. In all honesty, buying the CD after you download it doesnt help the artist. The recording companies make all the money off that. But why should anyone pay $20 for a CD, thats terrible, when it doesnt even help out the artist by doing so? File sharing actually helps artists. It gets their music out there in a free, easily spread way. Then if people like them, they'll go out and see a show or something. That's what really helps them out.

Independent film that also happen to be good promoters used the internet as part of there distribution model. You can still release your movie in theaters but also release it online that more people can see it. become an affiliate to some pay per click company and not only are the downloads free but the online company you affiliate with pays you. fewer screens and online distribution is the way to go as a film distributor big or small.

Another thing the big studios haven't caught to yet is that they can just leak the movies onto the internet themselves and turn that into money in there pockets.

The old ways of distributing a movie is just a waste of money since you can use the internet to release your movies to turn a profit. You can sell ad space so that when people download your movie for free your sponsor pays you. The big studios haven't caught to the newest technology outside cgi.

If the big studios are so worried about money than stop spending obscene amounts of money for everything.
