To the contrary. aDinoSupremacist is correct; the Mark VI has no such capabilities. The only suit that can do so is the MJOLNIR Mark VII. It is mentioned on page 213 of Halo: Glasslands, which in turn is specifically named on page 291.

Given the iconic status of the Mark VI, and the fact that is what it looks like, combined with how functionally different this new suit is, the most likely explanation is that Master Chief's new suit is a Mark VII.

I think the spirit of fire might explain the human presence in the new halo 4 story, they were officially considered "lost with all hands". However they should be able to survive for they were in a colony ship which would have plenty of resources, not to mention they can save those resources and energy by staying in stasis pods, which they did. On arrival to this "planet", thats shown in the halo 4 teaser trailer, they would be alarmed and woken up by Sarina, the ships A.I.

Look at the back of the ship at the end of the trailer and then look up a picture of the back of the ship from Halo 3 on google. They look nothing alike! The world that you see at the end is Sigma 7, a Forerunner shield world used to protect sentient beings from the Halo Array. So there may be Forerunners, but I wouldn't count on it.
