FDNY responded from as far away as they were, one even running thru the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel with full bunker gear on when the traffic bogged down, only to die in the Pile.

Every year there is a commemorative race thru the tunnel to see if anybody else can do it.

* a US. Citizenship

* 60 college credits from an accredited university or college with 2.0 GPA or 2 years of full-time military service in the US. Army with an honorable discharge.

* a valid NY State driver's license

About the Dutch army, I don't know. I guess you'll have to ask a recruiter or something to find that out. However, about the Dutch college, yes it's accepted as long as you reach the equivalent of 60 credits from an American college.

Last time I heard the music at the end, it was at an NYPD funeral for a cop, holding 2 for robbery while on solo foot patrol in the Bronx.

He put away his weapon to cuff the one while the other shot him.

It was never discussed, but take heed: When you are alone, never holster your weapon until back up arrives.

Well, you surely can become a NYC Police Officer, no doubt. You have the language. I have to learn it better. And yes, you have to be a US Citizen to apply for the NYPD Academy. Though, it takes about five years to obtain a citizenship, so my plan is to go to college for as long as I can during these five years and then apply when I have the citizenship. :)
