The parents really lack parenting skills.. that is what sums it up... no one is teaching future generations how to be parents... we need to re institute parenting classes in High School
Working in a special needs classroom for years has led me to the wonderful truth that nobody knows exactly what they're doing whatsoever. Being a teacher, and having conflicting opinions by professionals whom all believe they're way is the correct way, hinders children from making any progress in any aspect. We all need to be reminded that there is no one real way to deal with the developmentally disabled, before we can help these children.
@christopherironyokes I am on the spectrum and relate to Tristan. I was singing and stimming as I wrote this message. alot of professionals believe their way is the right way due to misplaced passionfire. Not that it is a bad thing, it just gets to their heads. whilst I Have mostly negative memories of childhood and therapy...remembering my mum's smile...I cannot stop crying and rocking now. I apologize if I sound over dramatic.
Thank u for this video :) but i was shocked 2 see how the two sisters of tristen were treated, they need attention too it seems like there ignored all the time. my oldest child who is 4 has autism and he has a younger sister, both are treated evenly! obviously my son needs alittle more attention but id never push her aside xxx
i hear ya trae i get ppl thjat don't understand all the time with my 5 year old high functioning autistic son, good on u and dei for putting urselfs out there so we could all get pointers, i would love to hear how things are now, i know it's a learning journey and this one show was just the begining

Now both parents have trouble avoiding putting their stress on the children.
This is because they are not as strong as other's ability to keep up appearances of most people.
Keep in mind that the idea of reinforcement to direct behavior (operant conditioning) is new to them and they are stressed in wanting to do it all right and they obviously don't know how.
Again honesty and seeing yourself helps in growth. Video of children in therapy is useful, but how about video of the adults?
You have no idea how much fathers stand by side line waiting for their son to be ready to get into sports or do things together like an adventure.
Autism seems like hearing that it's impossible to ever dream big.
With a little imagination fathers can do things like play Pooh sticks, make backwards chaining in soccer or whatever sport for the goal or point, & bring aspect of favorite videos into great imagination & play times.
Men have strength when they get their hands dirty in dreams.
The girls don´t only have to be taken busy, but individuallsy (each for herself) loved and valued. Also in this video the girls come after Tristan and they are used to be perceived as a couple! Even from the counsellors They are singularly personalities! and taken as that!
But the mother must not leave the girls so cruel.
And, watch 4.50 : she has more directly and more positively affected to give the girls attention and praise. With the girls she seems to have problems. In this video they stand behind Tristan even in good moments. All the direct attention is directed to first Tristan, then, 4.50 somewhat weaker perhaps to the girls. The only direct attention to them is paired with negative messages 3.35! But they earn also primary attention and love!
I saw some of the stuff again bc. of your response to me. I see all the chances of the familiy, they will have integrated all the (learned lessons) into their day so far. BUT: seeing how the girls are rejected and how deeply institutionalized this structure is, hurts again to watch. Hopefully history now. Btw: the girls will have to care for the brother all their adult lives.
your answer brought me back to this stuff and I tell you: the way they treat(ed!!!) the girls realy sucks!
Google for autis+sibblings" - you will gernerally find, that siblings of autists are neglkected in several dimensions: they get less attention, have lack in speech, school-succcess and, and.
You can even find such films on Yotube.
Wha I see here is the total confirmation of the broader thesis: autist in familes are bad for the siblings! The way these girls are treated is ashaming!
You know, that's really weird because my only sibling has autism and I don't consider myself any of those things. The way these parents neglect all of their children in this video is shameless. My mother was a single parent and my brother is one year older than I am. I am currently a straight A college student, going to school for special education. So what you say about the lack of school success is false. Lack in speech? Also false. Ask anyone who knows me.
Autism isn't "bad" for the siblings, as long as people are educated about what it is. While my brother was in therapy as a child, I also underwent therapy and that really helped me appreciate my brother and love him very much despite that he would not play with me. I think that while it was tough, it made me a much more accepting person than most of my peers, which enabled me to have lots of friends rather than lead a solitude, neglectful life.
1) sorry for the many writing-mistakes; when I delete and rewrite it,your answer would prob. vanish,so I leave it!
2) there is at least one study from the 70's , in which the system.-statistical effects of autism-case in family for the siblings is described. I'm glad for you that things run o.k! There might be contemporary shiftings of parental behaviour as well. But this family without advice would neglect totally the girls. This is obvious and could still be a typical effect in aut-fam.!
And: you made a therapy! That helped your parents as well how to treat you!
Another example of effects on siblings can IMHO be seen in case of the sister of John Travolta: she is (was) somewhat affected by the autistic brother and his behaviour and effects on the family-system: very much concentration goes on the boy, the sister has no normal brother and has "different-from-normal" focussing parents (out of a situational + general demand). In my view: dilemma, tragic, somewhat TYPICAL!
I still cant believe that they would just allow him to play outside by himself. and not want him next to them while eating dinner. until nanny jo said to have him sit next to them
they call super nanny because their children annoy them and the real problem is they don't pay the slightest attention to their kids. lord..

if that lady can't "handle" her kids, she needs to close her legs and get those kids to a better home.

The compliance of the family (parents) is amazing. Especially the dad and his deep interest is real moving.
Aklso the mother is great.
This family has a great chance!

Did you notice the dad's honesty, fear, strength, & taking his wife's hand when she was nervous while Supernanny attacked them in the beginning?
That's a man.
