I have been looking for how to make an accurate powerful cros bow for a long time with no success. A guy that I knew decades ago made on in shop in high school & gave to some one else. Years ago I saw a man in eastrem whashington use a cross bow with a fishing reel attached and shot a carp then realed it in.

The chinese invented this type of rapid fire crossbow hundreds of years ago. It is called the 'Chu Ko Nu' or repeating crossbow. The advantages were clear when defending castle walls, in that it can fire more bolts per man. Its drawbacks were that they were comparatively weak, and had to be shot from an elevated position to be fully effective.

people need to realize that its not about the strength of the repeating crossbow, its about the quantity of arrows that the chineese had. thus why they put snake poison on the tips to kill off enemies fast. these bows where invented by civilians so imagine how they were used for defense purposes

very nice modell....I`ve made a simple one, but it`s very, very powerfull....the arow can go trough a metal bucket....I just need some better arows because I can`t make them strong enough...after a fiew shots in trees or buckets, they just rip apart.

The design is genius, but in crossbows or any non compound bows the energy is stored in the prod not the string. Meaning that instead of using a pathetic bungee cord you need spring steel or yew/hickory wood and a strong, not elastic string. Else your bow would have no real power.

Problem is a crossbow like that can't be made with a prod strong enough for any kind of real power. For that you need a spring steel prod and that requires a built in windlass to draw it. Slower firing but much, much more powerful.

I did get an idea from karil's crossbow in runescape. has quite the interesting design, using bolt racks to hold the bolts steady, in a locked position, almost like a gun magazine. would require a more advanced mechanism though.

There are exactly two things I can see wrong with this project. First, the bungee cord is far from ideal, instead I'd recommend arms that bend or swing and a solid cord for your string. Second, your bolts should be feathered and by the way they were flying they didn't seem to be.

Fantastic build altogether though. I'm particularly impressed by the firing mechanism. Good work.

First off, I know that a bungee is not really crossbow material; I just couldn't find anything that would work as well. Second, For the LAST TIME the bolts CANNOT be feathered, because they would not fit in the magazine that way.
