  • Why doesn't anyone try to back up and strike or push forward when their crossing sword handles? Sorry, don't know anything about kendo!

  • @Leone982 In Tsuba zeriai (crossing swords), both players will try to gain control by finding their centre to look for a striking opportunity. Because the movements are all done through the hips, it's not easy to see. As for pushing/backing out, once your arms are stretched out, you are open to be struck. There are moves that strike when backing out (hiki waza), but you'd have to be super fast to strike.

    Hope that helps :)

  • are there any moves that there not allowed to do? Like illegal moves, Im just interested after watching Bamboo blade

  • so awesome.. haah flawless movements, but they loook a bit skittish

  • They look so skitish, i really wanna learn this too.. but not look so skittish >.>

  • to score a point you must have osme following things. i will try to name them all

    1. proper technique

    2. proper battle shout

    3. must retain position after a successful hit

    4. proper footwork

  • looks like tons of fun

  • red flag... went up at the end... doesnt that mean miyazaki won?

  • its called men...

  • Is that Ishida who is now 8th dan?

  • Nope, that's the younger Ishida. He's also from Osaka I think. The other Ishida is much, much older. This one is a contemporary of Miyazaki and I believe he's a former All-Japan champ.

The other Ishida, whom everyone knows from that NHK documentary, is nowhere near as young as this guy (whom you can see in the doc as his sparring partner at the Osaka Police Academy or training centre).

  • the older Ishida is 170cm tall..Ishida here is taller than Miyazaki

  • Miyazaki won

  • i'd go with ishida

  • did ishida win or miyazaki?
