@racer500gp Well I wasn't alive in 72' but I can tell after what I've learned, listened to, read and seen. The Devil himself would have had a better chance of getting my vote for President ot the United States.
What I find ironic, or maybe odd, is that the FIRST Medicare recipient was Truman. Now, Truman served as president for eight years, so that in and of itself should've given him quite a bit of income to save up. He could've EASILY afforded to buy his own health insurance! Besides, healthcare costs back in those years were WAY LOWER than today. If you ask me, the need for Medicare seems to be practically null back then. Were prescription drugs that costly then?
@whoo689 When President Truman left Office in January 1953, there was no pension allotted for Ex-Presidents as there is today. He lived in the house that was owned by his wife's family. His only income was his World War 1 pension which was just a little over a hundred dollars a month w/ no healthcare provided.
George McGovern lost his liberal ass in a run for president. One of the worst thrashings in history. For once he is right. Obama a naked communist in the white house.
He didn't mention that this is the same Johnson that escalated the war because of a lie and said of the USS Liberty, "I want that God-damned ship at the bottom of the ocean!" Had it not been for a Russian ship he'd have gotten his way.
I wanted to stop a target the first time so m-14 was the obvious choice. As far as the range goes...that's why God created snipers.
Why we were in iraq is the biggest possible insult we could make to a foreign country. Originally it was to get weapons of mass destruction. 8 years later, it is that we are there to make sure the babies have enough responsibility to manage their own country (after we imperatively destablized their culture). Our foreign policy is unbelievably terrible and as a result, the pentagon and all other assoiciates are putting every american citizens life and wallet on the line.
National Health Care costs money which can only be derived from the amount of goods and services our country provides for others. Right now the debt is in the double digit trillions. Wars are obviously some of the most expensive investments (if you want to call it that) that any country can make. The U.S. is not producing enough capital to pay for the war let alone the debt (although paying off a debt is impossible but thats for another discussion).
The one and only thing that Republicans understand better than Democrats is that if you know that the worst most evil people are going to be incharge of your government, for fuck's sake: make the government smaller and less powerful.
George McGovern, a great American and a B-24 pilot of WW II. God bless you for your service to our country and freeing Europe from the grasp of Nazism and Facism.
Lets see...and what has he learned in the past 65 fvcking years? Nothing..same tired empty liberal pablum repeated over and over and over...the REAL TYRANNY of America today
As long as these wars are continued to be fought with an enemy who has a belief system that is rooted in religious ideology, they will never be won. It's time we bugged out of the region and besides, we can't afford it.
"The Moral Law causes the people to be in complete accord with their ruler, so that they will follow him regardless of their lives, undismayed by any danger."
Johnson did some wonderful things for Americans....his "Great Society" took giant steps to bring American minorities towards true equity but all these great things were tainted by our involvement in Viet Nam. McGovern is offering sage advice here. Let's hope Obama and the rest of the U.S. listen.
it is good to look at johnson, he had his role in the vietnam, kennedy fiasco...
But he refused to run another term....
to his credit..
Whatever he thought or was carried up in by the political waves..spinners at the time, and his signing to get us back to vietnam, he turned after a bit and removed himself from the arena, just like that.. bye see ya..
Lol, Obama is no LBJ. Johnson would have this Repub Congress in check today because he had a backbone.

Magus12000BC 2 years ago
I don't know. But PBS is a wonderful asset and it would be to his credit if he did!

Yeah the 1967 Public Broadcasting Act by LBJ created PBS and NPR.
